Around The Water Cooler!

Hey Everyone!

Since I haven’t been taking in any cafinated drinks it didn’t seem fair to post a ‘Coffee Talk’ morning segment. That being said i do now go fill up my water bottle and get to typing! So welcome to the first ever ‘Around The Water Cooler!’ piece. Where I will detail some morning thoughts and cover the happenings of the prior day.

This morning I’m feeling overwhelmed, but at the same time I’m ok with it. I have to call the bank about some real estate taxes and what not, as well as talk to them about mortgage insurance. While I’m not looking forward to that I don’t think it will be a big deal. I also have to learn some more coverage of the operations end of things at work before, well, next week haha. I have to call the pediatrician about Everett’s iron supplement, and look in to how to fix the GC machine at the gas plant that I’m doing on the side. So, sort of a busy Friday. I’d also like to get the grass cut in the yard if at all possible.

On to what we dealt with last night! I wanted to move all of the weeds we pulled from our yard and dump them over the bank behind my parent’s house, then I needed to drop off my car to get fixed up, followed by running to the store for some stuff.

I got home and took our a frozen pizza for dinner since I knew we were going to be a bit busy. The pizza finished and I went to move it form the oven to the counter. The moment I was in that transition Everett decided it was a good idea to run over to the stove door that was down and slam his hands on it! You know where it goes from here. It was a 400 degree oven that he slammed his hands on. Unlike some babies he did take his hands off very quickly and started balling, as most people would probably do. I quickly, but calmly, grabbed him and ran his hands under some cool water. My wife finished up her work day and came down to help me out. We called the doctor and they told us a couple things, we basically already knew. We applied Aloe to his hands from one of our many Aloe plants. It helped him immediately.  While that was going on I gathered those weeds and got rid of them so we could head out the door and get the other stuff done. Once I dropped off the car and made it to the store we picked up a gauze kit to wrap his more burnt hand over night. We have pictures, nothing gross though, so no advisory needed.

12

He has a couple fairly large (for his size) blisters on the palm of his hand, so we put more Aloe on before bed and wrapped him up.

This morning he was back at it getting into everything.

3

Then, since this is how it always happens,  I get this picture sent to me this morning.

4

Everett just got a fresh wrap job and dunked his hand in my wife’s coffee first thing this morning! DOH!

That was my night and while it had some low points we got everything sorted as needed, and we all made it though!

I hope you have a great Friday and weekend! I’ll see you again Monday! 😀 😀

Weird News Wednesday!

Hey Everyone!

Lets try this haha.

One student was credited with saving a squirrel’s life thanks to the hit show “The Office.”

index.jpg

There is a scene in one episode where they brought in a CPR trainer, to try and teach the people of the office, well CPR. She was using the stereotypical “Stayin Alive” song we all know and love haha. Natalie Belsito, a Central Michigan University student, saw the squirrel drowning in a pond. She saw it being slow to move and saw its head dipping under the water frequently. With the help of another person she was able to get the squirrel out of the pond. It is then that she noticed that it wasn’t breathing! She admitted to not really knowing CPR, but did remember the episode from “The Office.” She was quoted saying “I was literally signing that song as I tried to do it.”

Once the squirrel was breathing again she nursed it back to health in her room. Once she thought it was ready to be released that is exactly what she did. She, along with her group of friends, released it back into the wild campus! haha. Her twitter video captured it all.

In even more amazing news the Actor, Robin Lynch, who played Rose (the CPR Trainer) on “The Office” caught wind of this and Tweeted out to her. She congratulated her on saving the life of the squirrel. How amazing is that?

There, that is some nice pick me up news for ya! I hope this post has brightened your day, I know it brightened mine. 😀 😀

I’ll be back again tomorrow, I hope to see you then! 😀 😀

Tuesday Lull!

Hey Everyone!

This is the most Tuesday, Tuesday that I have had in a while. Its definitely not a Monday, nor is is the slight rush of hitting the middle of the week. It is a very normal day. I haven’t had one of those in a while.

It is moderately busy at work. I have been working closely with UPS to find a solution for our shipping department. We hit a snag early on but looks like things are back on track. I have an issue that has been bugging me for weeks in Excel. I can’t seem to figure it out. I made a sheet for the company to use to replace the old way of sending around purchase requisitions, and it has worked flawlessly for three years now. A month ago I had a user tell me his wasn’t working, even though everyone else is still able to use it just fine. I am completely stumped on why this is. I have been racking my brain, then sleeping on it, then racking my brain some more with no avail. :/ I have since posted my issue up on a forum in hopes that someone may be able to provide some “outside looking in” perspectives. If you are an Excel guru hit me up haha, I have questions lol. 😀

The family is doing better. My wife is still stuffy and has a headache, but I can only believe that that will pass in a day or so. We are going to be over this sickness just in time for good weather I hope! It will finally be 60 degrees here in a day or two. WOO! 😀 My poor flowers have been more than frost bitten. I went out a week or so ago and got rid of all the dead stuff and made room for the flowers to pop up, and they did. Since, they have been covered in snow two more times! If they make it through I’ll be surprised haha. Speaking of better weather, we should be getting back out to camp when it clears up. We have to finish that damn cabin! We need to insulate the ceiling and finish siding the peaks. Once that is all done we can work on the inside stuff like the counters and bunks, as well as get the wood stove in place.

Softball is going to start up soon too. I’m not sure if I am going to play or not. Part of me doesn’t want to, because there ends up being too much drama from our teammates (They are a family), but part of me wants to keep playing with my little brother. It is one of the only things that we do together. He told me I better play haha. Who knows! I have a lot going on this summer and if I play I’ll have to let them know that it is my last priority.

That is all for me today. I’m glad you stopped by, I’ll see you all again tomorrow! 😀 😀

Ermehgerd!

Hey Everyone!

WOW! I can’t keep anything straight this week lol. No morning post as you probably realized. :/ I have again been running non-stop since I got in to work today. My co-worker was supposed to have the day off so I ran everything my self this morning, then he decided to come in the rest of the day haha. Don’t ask me why anyone would want to do that! 😀

However, it is Friday! I’m excited for the weekend and for the time off. Last night I was able to program my garage door remote and get that all working for my wife. She will be very pleased now that she/me doesn’t have to lift the door manually anymore. 😀

We are all starting to get over out colds and hopefully we can have a sickness free weekend! I let you in on our weekend plans yesterday so I guess there is no need to go over them again.

I do have a bit of a rant that I’m sure you can all get behind. This morning, before work started, I had some bills to pay. Who doesn’t right? I was sitting here going through each bill online and paying them off, when I got to my quarterly garbage bill. (Disclaimer: I know it is a small bill and only quarterly, but this is about the principle haha) I noticed that it went from $74 to $86. That caught my eye and I dug a little deeper. I looked at the bill itself and saw that on top of a site fee, which I always have, I had a “Fuel Fee” of over $11. I then looked at all of my past bills and this fee was no where to be found. So since I deemed this ridiculous, in my own head I called them the moment they opened!

Once I got a lady on the phone I asked if she could tell my why my bill was 11 dollars higher than normal for the same exact service. I wanted to give them the benefit in case it was for a real reason. She said that they increased the fuel fee as of April 1. (I made sure to bold that word, because that means that she is passing this off as a pre-existing charge when it is not one.) I went right in on her a bit and said something along the lines of: “This is a fee that hasn’t been on any of my other bills and is an increase of over 10% to my total bill.” She instantly told me that she would see what she could do to lower it for me and put me on hold lol. I may have scared her a bit. Also it is about 15% higher once you do the math. She got back on the phone and lowered the $11 charge to a $2 charge and I was content enough lol.

How these, companies we are forced to use, can get away with this crap is beyond me. There was no notice that anything was changing and with something changing that drastically you would think they have to send out some sort of notice. I get that this amount quarterly isn’t a big deal, but lets consider how I’m being raped by my student loans and then you will get the idea. They have increased their interest rate 7 times on me in the last year! I went from a $300 payment to $400 in a year, that’s nuts. I certainly didn’t get a raise to coincide with that increase. That is when things like this get bad. I just can’t stand that they can do what they want and I have to try and keep my head above water. For Shame! lol.

Anyway that is all. I don’t want to work myself up again lol. I hope you all have a great weekend and with any luck I’ll be back Monday! 😀 😀

Discover The Dinosaurs!

Hey Everyone!

I have been keeping very busy at work, which is a great thing. It makes my entire day go by so fast! I am already ready for the weekend haha. I have been working some more on the UPS upgrades at work and even created a nice spreadsheet to present my work when the time comes. I have also been working closely with a company in Florida, to repair and replace our IBM terminals in the shop. They are old and have to be, to work with our somewhat dated system. Lastly I have finally placed my April order to replace workstation PCs, and even got some monitors and battery backups! 😀 I kinda squeeze those things in sometime for stock purposes. If someone needs something I try my best to have it.

Speaking of the weekend a bit ago, our Saturday just went from fairly dull to something I am looking forward to. My wife has a baby shower in the morning for one of her friends so I’ll travel with her to that and just kinda hang out. Afterwards, I just bought tickets to “Discover The Dinosaurs: Time Trek” It will be at a local convention center. I’m not sure Everett will ever remember such a thing, but it fills the time gap that we have.

DinoEblast.jpg

Here is the write up for the event:

At Discover the Dinosaurs: Time Trek, you’ll be transported through our special Time Lab where you can observe enormous prehistoric dinosaurs and glimpse at mythological, magical dragons. This experience is all about hands-on family fun! Kids will love the larger-than-life creatures, and activities like Design-a-Dino, Prehistoric Poop, or the Race Through Time Labyrinth will keep everyone entertained. Families can compete in the Cretaceous Challenge Zone, visit the Time Trek Theater to meet baby dinosaurs, and test their dino-knowledge in our family and individual trivia contests.

PLUS at our Dragon Edition events, we’ve incorporated famous dragons and lore from three very distinct cultures – dragon legends are thought to have started with the discovery of unknown dinosaur fossils!”

I think it will be pretty neat. I’m not really going in with any expectations, so i can’t really be disappointed haha. I’ll be sure to take some pictures and show you all what it was like.

After that fun, my wife scheduled a photo shoot with a couple. We will meet them at the desired upon location around 6:30pm and then travel home. So you can see we really packed that day with plenty to see and do.

On another note I was please to receive a phone call from the garage door people, telling me that they came to my house and fixed my door! I’ll get the bill in the mail, but they fixed it! It hasn’t worked since we moved in over a year ago, and I just got around to having it fixed. I have been picking it up and putting it down this whole time for my wife. It will be amazing to click a button and have it actually work haha. they changed out the gear box and attached the missing arm that connects the motor to the door. They were going to go back and apply weather stripping to the sides to eliminate the gaps on the sides. I’m not sure I have ever been this excited about a garage that I don’t even get to park in. 😀 😀

That is all for me today, I hope you enjoyed the post. I’ll be back again tomorrow, I hope to see you then! 😀 😀

Gender Reveal & Playground! (Pics & Vids)

Hey Everyone!

We had a pretty exciting weekend, with a lot going on. I’m proud to say that I took pictures and videos of all of it. Go me! Saturday morning my wife’s went out of town with friends and I took Everett to my brother and sister in-law’s gender reveal. They were announcing the gender of their second child, they already have one girl. It was out at a hunting camp in the woods. Here is Everett holding a pink balloon, I guess we know what his guess was! 😀 (Sorry it is a little blury but he was on the move)

1

Everett and his cousin Rory played on the floor while we waited for everyone else to arrive and eat.

2

Here is my brother holding Everett.

3

This one is a funny comparison. Everett, Rory and Pepper the 2 year old Great Dane haha 😀 😀 (Both of their Great Danes were there but I only caught the one)

4

On to the more exciting stuff! Here is the box my brother made to reveal the gender. Inside of this box was Tannerite, and on top of the Tannerite was a bag of colored powder. My brother’s goal was to shoot the Tannerite through the box and have it explode the color all over the place. (For those of you unaware of what Tannerite is you will soon find out.)

Here is the video I took. ( I set my phone on a chair and backed up haha, I wasn’t that close) (SOUND ON)

By now you know they are having another girl haha. Here are a few pictures I took after the reveal.

We set Rory up on the stump, she’s a cutie!

29315072_10215511421234379_1372913384525135872_o

We finished the afternoon up there and had a relaxing evening at home, once my wife was back.

Sunday started like any other, lazy and sleepy. I was trying to get a few games in, before Everett woke from his nap but that didn’t last too long.

5

My wife had him downstairs after that and she sent me this picture haha, that hairdo! 😀

6

7

It was nearing 3:30pm and we were experiencing some cabin fever, so we decided to take a walk. It was about 43 degrees F, but the sun was shining.

8

We were going to walk our normal distance, but liked being out in the fresh air after being cooped up all winter. We took Everett, and our dog, about a mile down the road to the local playground. This was his first time at a play ground. He was able to enjoy his first time on a swing. 😀

9

This, of course, followed by his first time on a slide! 😀

10

He did enjoy both, but wasn’t sure what was going on at first. We had successfully had a play date at the playground!

12

About half way home again the poor little guy was all tuckerd out!

11

We stopped and saw my parents on the way home, since they live a city block away from us, and headed home. We had some home made burgers and beans for dinner and watched a little March Madness before going to bed. Overall it was a very pleasant weekend. We can’t wait to get outside with him more now that he is a little bigger.

That is all for me, I’ll see you all again tomorrow! 😀 😀

Quick Poem!

~When the uncertainty of life weighs down on you each day~

~It is up to you and yours to find the correct way~

~Things may seem bleak for a moment or so ~

~It is in those moments that you must grow~

~As you continue to fight your way through ~

~Always remember to just stay true~

I didn’t have anything for you today, no news, updates, or life events. Instead of just rambling I thought I would try this instead. I sat down, cleared my head, to the best of my ability haha, and wrote what came to me. Sounds corny and even makes me feel weird sharing a quick poem that was written in 3 minutes. I hope you enjoy it! 😀 😀

HUMP DAY!

Hey Everyone!

We have made it to the middle of the week and are on the slide into the weekend.

Yesterday, at work, once things calmed down a bit I tried to figure out what I would need to build my wife a pretty epic photo editing PC. I found out it would be around two to three thousand dollars. Right now we do not have the money for a full build so we are just going to have to deal with it until we can. Unlike other things you can’t really buy one piece at a time, or your whole PC will be outdated by the time you get all the pieces. Sure you can buy hard drives that last years, but as far as most other parts you will want them at the same time. It is also just easier to keep track of. There are things that she could and would keep from her old one like her hard drives, speaker system, and monitor (that would come to me replacing my 11 year old one haha) The build is pretty great for what shes needs. It would have a 7th gen i7 processor, 16 GB DDR4 RAM, 120 GB SSD (For OS only), Two 6 TB hard drives @ 7200 RPM, as well as a GTX 1050. The external parts would be awesome as well including a brand new mechanical keyboard with extra keys for binding Photoshop macros, and two new 24 in monitors running at a 144Hz refresh rate. This all means one thing. She would have to clean off her desk haha. Anyway, we will have to wait and see what the tax refund fairly brings, and how we handle out basement water proofing before we decide.

We had a nice night in, and had home made chicken quesadillas for dinner. I really like the way my wife makes them. Everett ate with us and we gave him a couple strawberries. You can see how that goes:

He already ate most of a full one before that one haha. Needles to say he needed a bath afterwards. We rounded out our night by hanging out in the living room playing with Everett and watching some T.V..

This morning started pretty well. I was in a good mood, we got up early enough that we weren’t scrambling to get out the door, and the roads were OK. I got Everett to his babysitter, and then got an email that a few people didn’t have a network connection at work. That means the moment I walk in the door I have to get to work. We had three machines not connecting to the network. We found out that it was due to our likes of DHCP addresses being full. Those are the addressees within a certain range that are just handed out, when a device connects. Once we saw that it was only a matter of finding out what shouldn’t have been on the network, disconnecting them, and reconnecting the proper machines. Since then I have been back in a good mood. I had my coffee, and took care of a few other minor issues, but nothing too serious.

I will be riding out the rest of the day as smoothly as possible. That is all for me today, I hope you have a great Wednesday! I’ll see you tomorrow! 😀 😀

How Do Yo Save For College Expenses!

Hey Everyone!

Today’s post is a little later than normal for a few reasons, but it is here!I have been going over things in my head, and then over them again, and then one more time. I have been thinking all day about the best way to save money for my child, whether he goes to college or not, I want to be able to do more than support him. I would love to have it all covered. The reality is that it would be tough to do, but anything I can do to help I want to. I don’t want him to end up in the same situation I am, and I don’t want to look back and think I missed an opportunity!

So, that being said I’m still lost haha. Everywhere I turn on the internet I hear about a 529 investment plan, and for the most part that seems like the way to go. But there are down sides to it, as well. I, again, just want to know that I’m making a good decision with whatever I do. For those of you who are unaware of what a 529 investment plan is, I’ll leave you with this little video. It sums it up fairly well.

Seems pretty legit, but It gets a little weird when you think about fees and taxes, if my child chooses to not go to school. Yes you can take your money out but it would be hit with penalties. Along with that I would want to make sure that it wouldn’t effect the amount of Financial Aid my kid would be eligible for, if I wouldn’t be able to cover it all. Ya know? I don’t want a huge sum of money that is saved screw him out of the rest of the money he needs.

For some back story I went to a four year college, got a degree in five years, due to three different majors. I then looked for a career for over a year. Then went to a different school for another two years and got a second degree. This second degree is the only one I am utilizing. Round all of that out and taking out my own loans to make it through, I racked up a very impressive $116,000 in student loan debt through three different companies. Add that shit up with the amount we spent on our house and the small amount of debt my wife is in, and you have just under $250,000 of debt. This is the situation I would not like my child to fall into. That could be freakin cut in half if I didn’t have student loan debt. I’m 28 years old and drowning. I have it under control, so don’t worry too much, but I kick myself in the ass everyday, for not doing something different. Now this isn’t meant to bash my parents in anyway, but neither of them, or myself knew anything about this stuff going in. I was a kid still, I didn’t know anything. My biggest responsibility was to show up for school and football practice! I just want to be able to provide in anyway I can to help later.

I am meeting sometime later today with our HR lady to talk about the options through my work. They do have a college saving thing that I can enroll in. I would actually be the first person in the company to enroll if I did. I am also going to ask my boss, our accounting manager, and some other people around the office how they saved money for their children, and see what I can come up with.

So real talk, what have you done to save for your families future? I would love to hear from anyone who has gone through this stuff or will. Any information would be helpful.

Thanks for reading about my daily freak out! I hope to see you all back again tomorrow! 😀 : D Here we come Friday!

Busy & Look Ahead

Hey Everyone!

Today will be another quick post. I am starving still after eating my lunch, which isn’t good since I have four more hours to go! I am very busy today, and running all over the place.

Over the weekend we didn’t do too much. I know that Sunday we played our normal two softball games and won them both. We stayed a bit later and played another team who had a forfeit. We are nice guys like that haha. So we had three games.

Over this next weekend I won’t have any posts until Wednesday. I have Monday and Tuesday off from work, for the holiday! YAY!!!

I really can use the break. It will be nice to have some time. We have a wedding to go to this Saturday. Monday we have the fireworks for the 4th, and Tuesday we have a parade that will go through town. We always have a nice picnic at my parents house after. This year we will have 10+ people there all from around the area, mostly family. It is nice when we can all get together and have a nice relaxing day of food fun and yard games.

Looking ahead to July, I will be busy at work since my co-worker is going to rome for a month! Jeez that must be nice. 😀 I have an Ingress picnic with the group of people I play with one weekend, an Alumni fraternity party/meeting another weekend, and a work bee a different weekend to get ready for our family reunion in August! All of this on top of having softball on Sundays haha.

That’s about it for me today! I hope you all are enjoying your Tuesday, as I am! 😀 😀 I’ll see you again tomorrow! 😀 😀
