Letter From Abel!

Hey Everyone!

Yesterday was pretty awesome! After work I picked Everett up from his baby sitter and then picked up my wife at home. We went straight over to another daycare facility, to meet with the owners. We thought they were still running out of their home as well, which is ok, but they recently purchased a building for a legitimate daycare. We met the owner and her husband who run the show together. They have separate rooms for each age group, trained and clearances staff, a clean environment, plenty of state regulated safety measures. As well as a fenced in play area, and a walking path. To top it all off it ends up being cheaper per month then where we have him going now. the only down side is that we can’t switch him until he is 1 year old. This means he will have to wait until May 22nd before he can go there, they don’t have any openings for infants until 2019! The good news is that we have all the paper work filled out and they are willing to hold his spot for May for $50. That is a steal, so we are going to do that tonight as we head out of town for the weekend.

By the time we were done there we were starving and not feeling like cooking dinner. We stopped across the street and got food from DQ. ๐Ÿ™‚ After we got home I checked the mail like I do everyday. To my surprise I got a piece of mail from Children International. I was hoping that it was some response from my sponsor child, and it was! I received my first letter written by Abel, the others were from his mom and a CI worker, on his behalf. I also got four pictures of him holding the items that I bought for his family.

Abel turned 10 years old on January 9th of this year and I wanted to get him something for that. In my letter I let him know that the soccer ball and Fanta were his gifts for Christmas and his birthday! The other stuff is for cooking in his home. It is mealie meal, sugar, cooking oil, and rice. He is looking good and seems happy, that’s all I can ask for. I hope he gets a ton of use out of that soccer ball. He likes sports, jacks, and playing with his friends so it should be perfect.

Today on the other hand hasn’t gone so well. :/ I came in early to cover my boss, who is off for the weekend. We have a system in place that grabs a ton of information and compiles complex workflow procedures, and it got unplugged yesterday. It was never properly brought back up, so it never ran what it needed to last night. So since I got here early I tried to re-run it, noticing that it didn’t run. Little did I know that the instructions that I had for that sort of even were incomplete. So, everything I tried still didn’t work and we had a mess this morning. It is just annoying for me to feel like something like that is my fault, even though it really isn’t. I still feel responsible and I don’t like that sort of thing. So I have tried moving past it, but have run into a snag on my other project as well. This isn’t turning out to be a great Friday so far. Good news is that it is Friday and soon I will be able to get the heck out of here for a while! haha.

Like I stated before, even thought the weather has turned on us,we are going back this weekend to talk about the house and tax stuff, and spend some time with my wife’s family. We hope to get a lot accomplished and have a relaxing weekend at the same time. I could really go for a glass of her grandfathers homemade wine right about now! ๐Ÿ˜€

That is all for me today, I hope you all have a great weekend! I’ll see you again Monday! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

What A Weekend!

Hey Everyone!

This weekend was a fun one for me. I didn’t just sit at home the whole time and wish the weather was better.

We were trying to dodge the Flu though, and I think my wife lost that battle. I for one, am still doing fine for the most part. I have a stuffy head, but she is feeling all the aches and pains. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

We can start off of Saturday! I woke up bright and early and got ready, like normal, because….I had a Masonic seminar most of the day. It was about an hour and a half away and my cousin and one other guy were going with. We left our city at about 7am and teh meeting started at 9am. I corresponded with my wife’s grandpa, so I could drop offย  our documents for taxes. Two birds. One stone. ๐Ÿ˜‰ We arrived a bit early, like you should, and signed in. We continued down aย  line of tables and got our folder with information for the day and then the good stuff. Next came the doughnuts and coffee! I had too many doughnuts and that is all I’ll say, but they were good.

The meeting was for people looking to move through the ranks in lodge. It covered everything, in basic form, you would need to run a lodge as a Worshipful Master for a whole year. We were able to asks questions in an open format and have a couple good conversations. There were mentors and District Deputy Grand Masters there from all over the state. So, lots of knowledge there for the picking! These type of events are fun, because you can really get a sense of how big the organization is and how big of an impact they make on the community. For lunch we had some homemade sloppy Joe’s, egg salad sandwiches, veggies, soup, and apple pie. Afterwards we had a presentation of organ donation and blood donations. As a Mason, signed up for the blood club, you are able to ensure that if you ever need blood that we will get it. This is of course after insurance pays for what they can. It also covers your immediate family, so that is very nice to be a part of. We finished up our little lecture and were out of there around 1:30pm. We waited around a bit and my wife’s mom brought over some frozen goods we should have had the weekend we didn’t go back. I guess you can retract my previous statement and say we killed three birds with one stone. ๐Ÿ˜€

Sunday we wanted to get out a little bit since, other than my meeting, we had been cooped up for a while. Everett has gotten over the Flu and we figured some fresh are was much deserved. The weather was somewhat chilly but it felt good to me, with the appropriate attire. So we went for our first walk all winter! We made sure to bundle Everett up as best we could:

We were able to sit him up more since he is bigger. He seemed to like being able to see more. I was wondering how much he would remember since developmentally he hadn’t really been on a walk in months. He can now see further and start to understand his surroundings. We also had to stop and take a nice family photo along the way:

Everett didn’t seem overly thrilled but I assure you he had a good time. Our dog was with us too but good luck getting her to hold still!

After our walk we watched a movie, which was not particularly good. I would have reviewed it but I am fairly busy at work today. I can tell you it was Spectre, the James Bond flick. I know it is a couple years old, but I can tell you that IMDB.com has it at a 6.8 I would go lower than that. It was very disappointing in my eyes. The story was there but just about everything turned me off from it. Either way it was nice to stop doing everything and watch a movie. The rest of the day my wife edited some pictures, Everett played beside us in the attic, and I was able to get a few games in. Over all it was a good weekend.

Today I am jam packed with things to do. I have to collect a urine sample from our female dog, and get it tested again to make sure her UTI is gone. Then it is off to Everett’s nine month appointment. This is where he will get a ton of shots and be mad at us for a short time haha. By the way….Everett is nine months old, I failed to mention that last Thrusday! Woo!

That is all for me today, I hope you all had a great weekend, and I’ll see you back again tomorrow! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Milestone, Weather, Masons, & Weight!

Hey Everyone!

First Hump Day of the year wooo! Here we are on third day of the new year and, hopefully, feeling good.

I woke up this morning with a bit of a sore throat, which may have something with Everett going back to day care. So not super happy about that, but what are you to do? Oh well! It has gotten better throughout the day so I hope it just goes away haha.

Yesterday I didn’t think I would even post and look at me go! I got two out, surprise haha. I was super swamped at work and still, sort of, am. This is the lull in the eye of the storm in a manner of speaking.

Last night was the first night that we put Everett to bed, with out him coming with us. He is still in our room and in his bassinet but we made the decision to put him upstairs right after his last bottle, and see how it goes. We had the monitor on, and with minimal fussing he went right to sleep. He slept well the rest of the night and I think we have a good thing going with this. I am confident that he can sleep in his own room, but my wife would like to still hold off on that for a bit longer. I’m OK with that decision. So that was a big win for us I think.

This winter weather is hitting our area pretty hard, and right now it is bitter cold. Schools in surrounding areas have been closed due to the low temperatures. In some areas it is reaching -20 F. We make sure to bundle Everett up as best we can, and keep him out of it as much as possible. I however notice that my facial hair freezes up instantly if it is even a tiny bit wet. I can lick my lips and it will freeze right up. I was shoveling the snow off of my sidewalk the other day, wearing big winter gloves, and my fingers were still numb by the end of it. Our water company as issues a warning about pipes freezing. We are supposed to have the water on to at least a drip to prevent it. That last thing we need is busted pipes. I’ll have to get on that when I get home today.

In other news I have our first Masonic meeting of the new year tonight. I am in a new position and have new lines to speak, so I’m a bit nervous. I know I have the lines down, but saying them in your head and out loud to yourself is different then doing it in the meeting haha. It should be OK though, I mean it is the first week after all. I’m not sure what they are serving for dinner but I know it’ll be good.

Speaking of eating, I am back on my regular diet. I gained 13 pounds from eating like a fatty over the span of a month. There really is just no good way to eat well, when you have an overindulging mindset. It is hard the rest of the year to stay healthy but over Christmas and New Years forget it! I’m not mad or even worried about it though because I know I’ll get it back off, but it is crazy to think I just gained that all back haha. I knew I was when my work shirts got a bit tight. Oops! ๐Ÿ˜€

That is all for now, I hope you all have a great rest of the week, I’ll see you tomorrow! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Weekend Roundup!

Hey Everyone!

This weekend was spontaneously more fun than first planned. We honestly didn’t have any plans. Friday we stayed in, made dinner, put up the new Christmas tree,ย  and watched Netflix. I know it is a bit early but we just bought it and there is no reason to store it for a couple weeks and get it back out. Everett was intrigued to say the least.

Saturday we cleaned up around the house and lounged for a while. My brother and his family came over to help me move the stove out of the way, so my wife could park in the garage. He was also there to collect the money for the gift we all went in on for my mom.

After they we went and got groceries, and thought about what we could do the rest of the day. We had a light bulb turn on in our heads, game night! First we gathered intel on whether or not people even wanted to. Once we had the interest we got a hold of my parents, my brothers family, and my other brother who also brought a date. We had successfully had eight adults and two babies over for game night. We played a game called Telestrations. It is like the traditional telephone game except instead of whispering to each other you draw a picture and the next person has to guess what you drew. by the time it gets to seven people the word you started with is not what you ended with. It is quite comical. I failed hard at getting a picture. This is mostly in part due to the fact that no one other than my wife knows that I run this blog. So they see me snapping pictures and think I’m really weird.

My parents bought chicken wings for us to eat for dinner and we all sat at the table and had a nice meal. This was also the first time any of us met my older brother’s date. Her name is Taylor, and she fit right in. They seem like a good fit and I hope that it works out the best way it can. He deserves someone in his life and she could be that someone.

Sunday we did stay in. I played a few video games, we watched Netflix and later watched some NFL games. My wife isn’t a fan so I’m sure she didn’t have the best time through that haha.

Today we are dealing with internal struggles about finances. We have a sewer main pipe that is busted and in need of repair. I want to have it done before the snow really sticks. It is costly and we don’t have the money in hand. They will accept credit cards and that may be the way we go, but I don’t want to back myself into a corner I can’t get out of. I think realistically that we can do it it will just take some time to pay off. We are hesitant because we are trying to have the whole basement waterproofed this spring which will cost a real pretty penny. On top of this with winter coming and having to trade vehicles with my dad I want a snow blower to clear our driveway, but of course a new one is about $500 for a small one. This would all be OK if there were happening one at a time but they will all run together and ruin my stress levels haha.ย  So to counter act that and end this post here are two pictures my dad sent me from way back when. (I’m the one with dark hair)

Here I’m sitting with my older brother, while he reads books. I was about three in these.

Here is one of my little brother and I at the local barber shop.

So this was 1991. Enjoy! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Bachelor Party Weekend! (BABY UPDATE SOON)

Hey Everyone!

I know what must be on all of your minds. Did they have their baby? Where have all of my favorite posts gone? haha To quickly answer your questions, YES! We have had the baby. With so much going on I will save that post for when I come back to work. I should be back to work Tuesday the 30th. If I’m feeling frisky I may post about it the day before I go back. That way I’ll have the time to properly introduce my little healthy boy! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

By the way I felt the need to run the weekend update by you guys so I’m sitting here in a cot, in the hospital, beside my wife haha. Here I’ll prove it!

This is far different from my usual set up. No desk, no PC, no chair haha. It was a long night but very worth it!

Anyway on the weekend. Friday I didn’t post because I left work half a day to get some things done before the baby came. I needed to pick up a few things. I ran to Wal-Mart and got everything I needed to change the oil in my truck (since I hadn’t done it all winter oops) It took a little bit to get set up, because it was the first time that I have ever done it at the new house. Yay for firsts! ๐Ÿ˜€ย  After that I cleared out my garage and got rid of all the junk that was left in it. In the process of dumping it all at my dad’s I grabbed our grill, and the air conditioner. Once I got home again, I installed the grill outside for my wife, and put the AC unit in the window. We got the laundry done and the house clean. That was the end of our busy Friday.

Saturday was my brother’s bachelor party. I got to the restaurant early and played some ukulele in the truck before they arrived.

While I was still waiting I got a shot of how full my truck was and the outside of the place we ate.

The food was great and the owner knows my dad. They used to work together so we chatted with him for a little bit before we left to hit the links! We are terrible at golf and nothing was to be expected haha. We lost more balls than we wanted but found more than we lost so that makes it all good. ๐Ÿ˜€

As you can see we are a rag tag bunch of guys haha. We did what we could. My brother beat us all which is fair, since it was his day.

After gold we ate at a local spot and headed to camp. We set up tents and got rocks from the creek for the fire ring. We played some corn hole and reminisced about past memories. It was a great night.

I was able to do something that I have been waiting for for a very long time. I was able to share a drink with my brother for the first time ever. He stopped drinking all together when I started for the first time haha. This was the first time we were able to share a drink together and it was a good feeling. I even have proof that he did haha.

Sunday we made it to softball surprisingly. We had our first round of double headers. I was able to get a few pictures of my niece playing and hanging with her daddy.

We didn’t do so hot during the games. We dropped them both which is always a bit disappointing. It wasn’t any one players fault just an off day.

Now you are mostly back up to speed. I’ll leave you with a little bit of a cliff hanger for when I come back. My wife woke me up at about 3am Monday morning, and told me we needed to go to the hospital….

Thank you for reading, I have missed catching up with you all. I’ll be back soon with a proper introduction to my healthy son! See ya then! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Busy Mornings!

Hey Everyone!

Today has been insightful. My wife had her weekly baby appointment, and I got my free estimate for the basement.

My wife seems to be on track, as far as the doctors are concerned. She is in the good range of weight gain and, not having any pain in her belly or head. She is feeling it in other ways though. Her feet are swollen, as she is on her feet a lot for her job. Her back is hurting from carrying him around all day, and her shoulder has started hurting for an unknown reason. She was told that she could expect him at any time from here on out.ย  We are still very excited and nervous for what is to come. I was speaking with a college friend of mine last night about it a bit, because him ad his wife just had a baby a couple months ago. He told me it was an unexplainable experience, and I already agree. He is someone I have always looked up too so to be able to talk to him about it was insightful and reassuring.

As for the basement update, we had a guy come to my house today. He measured the basement and determined that it would be best to use a Water Guard drain around the interior perimeter of the house, and drain into a sump pump, with a battery backup. From there it would pump outside, and have an ice guard to still allow it to pump even if the pipes froze outside.

Here is what the cover of some of it looks like. Below is the actual estimate. It is damn expensive. It is only written for the pump without the battery. With the battery it is almost $900 more.

We are stuck between a rock and a hard place here. We need it to be done, so we can stop stressing about it. We want to finish the basement someday and don’t want mold. If we are going to do it we wanted to do it right. Well this is right… On the other hand, we don’t have any money and have a baby coming any day now. In the long run I think we agree that we should do it. They are back logged into July already, so we have to let them know soon.

One yet another note, we have our first softball game Saturday at 9am. We should beat the team we are up against but anything can happen in slow pitch!

I hope you all have a great weekend! I’ll see you again Monday with a weekend update. ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Projects, Projects, Projects!

Hey Everyone!

My doctors appointment went as well as it could yesterday. Thank you all for the support. I have to go pick up Cortisone lotion for the burns since they are chemical and not heat related. Once I use that for a few days I should be back to normal. I spent quite a bit of time trying to pull dried concrete out from under my finger nails. Not pleasant!

I did manage to get one of my many projects started yesterday. If you follow me on Instagram you may already know. I wanted to build a firewood rack for my house. It had to be able to hold kindling and have a shelf on top for our electronics in that area. I threw together this design, with as many dimensions, supplies, and prices that I could.

Here is what I ended up with, it is smaller because I over guessed my space. It is still mostly the same design.

If I were to do it again I would have put the vertical legs on the ground and just cut the front piece shorter. We had to “toenail” the verts and it was tough. From here I have to have the glue all dry, cut the tops even, sand it all, and get that stain on it. It was fun to make, even though sometimes my dad and brother can be a bit much to handle. We all have our own ideas, even though I had the whole thing drawn up. So sometimes we all butt heads at once and it gets less fun. At the end of the day it is going in my house so I have the final say, done!

My next project will be putting a mail box down on our lawn, because I want to work with my steps some more and do it right. I don’t want to be pressured to get them done, yet I still want my mail to be delivered. We are going to dig about a two foot deep hole and put in a 4×4 post. Next we will attach the mailbox we used at our wedding and we will be good to go. I have to call and let the post office and let them know that the issue is resolved. I hope to get that done tonight.

The rest of the night I hope to make the cuts on the other, other project haha. I will be making cubby shelf storage for in the baby’s room. I need it taller than the crib and nice. I am going to stain it the same as the firewood rack to save some money. It is Minwax Espresso, a darker brown that will fit well with both. Here is another mock up of the dimensions.

It is really only going to take two boards. Each one will be 1″ thick, 12″ wide, and 12′ long. All of the cuts are lined out there in the picture. I will have to glue the bottom of all but one of the middle verticals, as there will be no good way to get a nail in there. I will be able to nail the tops so it would be good. Once that is all done and put together it will go through the same process as the firewood rack. When it is all done I think we will get 4 gray fabric drawers for it and then keep books and toys in the empty ones.

Thank you for reading about my upcoming projects! I hope you enjoy some of these technical and informational posts. I’ll see you all again tomorrow with some updates! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€
