Plumbing Fixed!

Hey Everyone!

Soon after I got my post out I called my plumber and asked when I could be expecting him. I was told 20 minutes, so I packed up my day and headed home! He arrived at my house moments after I got there and changed out of my work clothes. He had to go purchase a new flange, anchor it to the cement floor, add the wax ring, and set it all back up. You can see the flange installation below.

20180807_160605.jpg

It always gets a bit messy when dealing with concrete, but he has done work for me before and is great about it. The hard part with this is that the anchors in concrete may not last as long, because it can break down quite easily. He was in and out of there within 40 minutes. Heck, my bill was even kept under $100, I’ll take that any day! 😀

This week is our fair week. We have a county fair through Saturday. We have a pair of tickets that my parents got us. We normally go Saturday because they have a demolition derby that night and fireworks. This year we all have kids, so the thought is that we can hang out at the fair all day, and have my parents take the kids while we watch the auto part. We aren’t 100% sure yet but that may be the way we go about it. My grandparents have a campsite on lock down, so we have a spot to relax and eat as well. It should be a good time. Everett is at the age where he would love to see all of the animals and pet the ones he is able to.

We also have a checkup appointment for Everett tonight. Fingers crossed that his Iron levels are up where they should be. He still has a cough, but we think he is congested from allergies. My wife has them pretty bad sometimes and it looks like he may have them too, unfortunately. We will have to wait and see.

That is it for me today! I hope you have a great hump day. I will see you all again tomorrow! 😀 😀

Quick Tuesday!

Hey Everyone!

Last night I was gearing up to pull out a ton of weeds, and other plants along the side of my garage, but plans changed. My wife text me and asked if we could hang out in our little inflatable pool, and that sounded like a better idea. 😉

Later we cooked out on the grill. Everything tastes better on the grill, we all know that. We had some hot sausage with peppers and onions. If you were wondering, yes it was delicious.

I have made some headway on my side technology project with that other company. I was able to get a hold of the manufacture of the machine and obtained the manual. I know now how to test the addressing and can get that thing up and running for them. I asked when I could come back to tinker with it and they said they are making me a key to come and go as I please. That will be nice, since I don’t work well with people looking over my shoulder. I hope to have it up and running this next time, which should be attainable, unless something else pops up as well. I would also like to map that part of their network out a little bit, so I know what is up in the future.

I have a few other things going on today that are keeping this post shorter. :/ I have to go meet a plumber any second now to fix my darn toilet….DOH!

I hope to see you all again tomorrow! 😀 😀

What A Day!

Hey Everyone!

I wasn’t able to get a post out yesterday, and for that I apologize. Aside from being swamped at work, I had to meet with the plumber once again, and take the dog to the vet.

This weekend was fun and now I’m sore. We played 5 softball games on Saturday with a fairly new younger team. Still the same core people but some nice additions. We will have a good team this year. It was a long hot day, but felt great to get back out there.

Back to yesterday.

First at work I have been setting up a few machines at the same time trying to get everything out at the right time. I have a ton of things in my office. If you didn’t know better you would start to think it was a storage shed haha.

Over the weekend our big sink that the washer drains into, was clogged. Without being able to do laundry or wash the paint sprayer, we were sitting ducks. So around 11 am I got the call that the plumber was on his way. I was with him at my house until about 1 pm. They were the same company that I used before. He took apart all of the fixtures to the sink and moved it out of the way.

1

Until we were left with just this pipe sticking out of the ground.

2

In that picture you can see the small trap on the floor and his snake. He ran that a couple of times before doing this.

3

This is a balloon mechanism that you feed water into. the end expands, like a balloon, in the pipe so a seal forms. It then uses a tight nozzle on the end to shoot water out in a jet stream and blast the gunk out of the small pipe in the the main line. Thankfully this worked and we were able to clear the pipe. He put every thing back together and back to work I went.

I was only at work for another couple hours before I had to leave early to pick up Everett. Once I got home I turned right back around with the dog and took her to the vet for her annual Lyme vaccine. She lost the winter weight, and they said she looks and sounds great. We will take that win! She is a real pain in the ass at the vet. She walks in the door every time and starts barking non stop until she is put in a room. They put her in one early because she was so annoying haha. Its always a struggle.

I finally made it home and changed my clothes, and headed out to paint some of the fence. The weather isn’t looking great for the end of this week so I wanted to make sure I used the good days while they were here. My paint is getting old and the latex is getting a bit chunky? I guess? So the sprayer is getting clogged and isn’t working well. I decided to hand paint all of the weird spots like the 4×4 posts, and 2×4 supporting beams. this way when I go get another fresh gallon tonight, I can just spray the boards and maybe be done! that would be great.

That was my busy weekend and even busier Monday! I hope you had a great weekend as well, and I hope to see you back again tomorrow! 😀 😀

What A Weekend!

Hey Everyone!

We need to just jump right in here. Friday I left work a bit early so that I could return my broken router and get another one. I was able to get everything I needed and activated just in time. I crossed my fingers and powered it up, and to my surprise it worked! We were not doomed to live like cavemen this weekend haha. It is hilarious to me that we rely so heavily on the internet now a days. I mean don’t get my wrong, it is partly my livelihood, but still funny to see how it has taken over.

Saturday started out nice an innocent. We woke up like normal and waited for my wife’s mother to come into town. Shortly after we got all dressed up and went out to get a few family pictures. We really don’t have any where Everett is looking because we never have anyone to get his attention. Saturday we did! Here is one of those pictures:

24899812_10208725785260686_6028008282331312876_n.jpg

Afterwards we went home and relaxed for a little bit before going out to my company’s Christmas party. I went out a day or two before and grabbed some stuff for mixed drinks, so that I was covered for the party. My mistake was bringing it all with me instead of portioning out all I wanted to drink. We got to the party around 6pm and proceeded to east a nice dinner of brisket, chicken, potatoes, corn, and beans. The food was catered by a local BBQ restaurant. Throughout the night I just kept filling up my cup, not thinking much about it. Our company hired a comedic magician, for the nights entertainment. He was pretty funny and did a handful of decent illusions. He wasn’t the greatest, but what can you expect from a local company Christmas party haha. Afterwards the DJ turned on the music and the light dimmed. At this point I had already had too much to drink not even realizing it. That is my issue with drinking in general. Once I get going it is hard for me to make myself stop, since I’m no longer thinking correctly. That is why I need to portion what I bring in the future so I don’t have a choice, but to stop at the right amount. That is, if I want to drink at all. I rarely do now. For some reason I always compare, Cale today with Cale from college. Let me be the first to tell you they aren’t the same people anymore and don’t share the same tolerance for alcohol. I guess my thinking was I would be OK and for the night and I knew Everett was taken care of so I could let loose a little bit. I just over did it, and that was a mistake. I don’t want to set bad examples for my son, so I’ll be sure to take it easy in all future endeavors.

I rode home with my parents and got home around 11pm. I was trying to go to sleep and found myself instantly sick to my stomach. I ended up getting sick three times that night. When I woke up I still wasn’t feeling well, as I’m sure you could imagine. I was unable to eat or drink, because my stomach was still upset. My wife, her mother, and Everett went shopping and while they were gone I got sick again! Thankfully after that last time I felt much better. I was able to eat and drink a ton of water. This got me back on my feet a bit. Later that day My wife’s brother and family came down. We were having our kids pose for Christmas pictures, to give to the families. My nephew is old enough to run around so of course that is what he did. It was tough to get him to be in the same picture as Everett. We did manage to get a few good ones with the help of everyone there haha. I don’t have them to show you but they are really cute. They are wearing matching Buffalo flannel clothing, with a white background.

Once everyone left Everett and I took a couple hour long naps that we both clearly needed. this gave my wife time to catch up on some of her work from the week before. I woke up feeling very refreshed and much better. Monday I had the day off, to meet with the plumbers. It was the day that we were getting our sewer main fixed. Finally! I woke up and took Everett to the babysitter. the plumbers came around 9am and were done by 1pm. First they dug out the floor of my basement to get at the problem pipe.

20171211_113305

Upon realizing that it wasn’t a true house trap, and only a ‘U’ they told me I could just have a ‘T’ put in and that it would be much cheaper, with no downside. (I asked haha)  So that is what they did.

20171211_123001

When they were done they filled it all back in and we were good to go!

20171211_131709

As of this afternoon the concrete should be good to go. I was originally quoted $2100 by another company. This company came in and quoted me at $1600. Once finding out that I could have a easier fix they said it would be half, so like $800. When the bill was handed to me it was only $520!!! I couldn’t believe it. That made me and my wallet very happy.

Today I am back at work and all is well. We are getting about two feet of snow today and tomorrow so we may see how well my snow blower works haha. Thank you for stopping by. I hope you had a nice weekend. C-ya tomorrow! 😀 😀

Everything But The Kitchen Sink!

Hey Everyone!

It is Wednesday and for me that means payday! It sounds great until you know that I don’t have any money haha. I hope someday I won’t have to live pay check to pay check. I got my direct deposit, only to come into work and pay off my bills and have enough money for gas in the car that isn’t even mine. RIP. The only good things I can say are that I am saving for retirement and my sons college, so that is a plus.

Speaking of money being gone before you even have it, I have a plumber coming tomorrow sometime after work. I’m sure that they will run their own snake and prove for themselves that my pipe is busted. That will come with a fun bill, followed by a bigger more fun quote to fix it lol. If it is anything like the other quote it will be a couple thousand dollars, for them to jack hammer my foundation and replace the broken piece, then filling it all back in. They should, like the last plumber, also repair the dry wall they have to tear out.

Friday starts the last month of 2017, and that evening I am going out to camp. the next day I will be getting up early and heading further into the woods, to hunt. We have 4-5 spots set up on my dads land that are prime for hunting, which is good because we have three people usually hunting. I will start low on the hill at my deer stand. Depending on the weather I may go higher on the hill. It is looking like it may be cooler, but still won’t be any snow. That makes it tough to see the contrast of a deer and hard to follow it if you have to. that being said the goal is to take a good shot and not have to chase it down. My dad went out yesterday and didn’t see anything, so I hope there are still some in the area when I get there. I have to find something to sleep on in the cabin because it isn’t finished. I’ll have to find a couple cushions or a small futon mattress or something to drag in there with me.

The other day I finished the third season of Zoo on Netflix, only to be disappointed that it was a cliffhanger leading into the fourth, which isn’t out yet. grrr. I hate that, I mean I understand why it happens but I really thought they were gearing up to end it and then it just drug on and on, then stopped. RIP again. I tried watching the first episode of Godless last night and it was so boring I fell asleep on my couch watching it. I may give it another try when I’m not also fairly tired from the night prior haha.

My co-worker is off today so I am the only one here with any real networking experience, you would think I’d be busy, but I am not. Half of my company takes this and next week off to go hunt, that should give you an idea about where I live haha. Most highschools in the area give the first day of hunting off, because it is pointless to try that day because no one shows up. Anyway if no one is here no one can have a problem with their computer!

In other news my wife is looking for a work from home position. We would like to get away from spending $500 a month on a babysitter and she would like more time home with him, so that seems to be a win win. The hard part is finding one. I have found her a few but she didn’t want to do them I guess. She has also just signed up at care.com to be a babysitter herself! I mean our baby sitter is making bank for being a retired woman, making money under the table. Doing some simple math, at $500 a month for one kid, and having a solid 6 kids at all times (some days more/some less), then multiplying by the twelve months in a year, that is about $36,000 a year from home. I am not sure if she pays taxes on it, she might but I’m not sure. It isn’t the greatest income and it is demanding but it is viable for where we live. If we were to move out a ways like we would like to someday it may not work, that is why I would rather her get in with a company that will keep her even if she moves. We will see, only time will tell.

That is all from me today. I hope you all have a great humpday! I’ll see you again tomorrow! 😀 😀

Plumbing Fun!

Hey Everyone!

I’m sorry for not having a post out yesterday, I was called just around lunch to go meet my plumber! I was told that they would call me with a time frame in the morning, of course that didn’t happen. Instead I received a call telling me that they were going to be at my house in 15 minutes. It was very short notice and I wasn’t able to get anything out.

That being said there were some wins and losses yesterday with the plumbing. I called them about three separate things. One being a PVC pipe leaking behind a wall where they had a shutoff valve. The second being a leaky supply line to the basement toilet. the third being that our system minorly backs up when the upstairs toilet is flushed.

He grabbed his snake and what not and started in on the main drain in the bathroom.

20171017_134712

After about a half hour he stopped and informed me that the trap in that main line was broken somewhere and full of mud. Somehow water is still making its way though, but it’ll need fixed sooner than later.

20171017_141646

That is mud, I promise! That is a major project and I need to talk to our insurance rep to see if I can get it covered at no cost to us for the repair. I would really hate to pay out of pocket for this. It would put at least our driveway paving on hold for a little while, which I don’t want.

He did fix the leaky pipe, with this piping.

20171017_150045

Before it had a shutoff valve, and now it doesn’t, but what do I care? The main shut off is right beside it. I’m pretty sure it is a hot line going to….well we couldn’t figure out where it goes haha. I didn’t get a picture, but he replaced out supply line to the toilet and now our floor is dry all the time. Yippie!!

Our plumber was there for about three hours, and was very friendly. They are going to get back to me about an estimate to fix the trap that is broken, and in the mean time I’ll just wait to get the bill… :/

Speaking of all of this broken stuff, our washing machine was “fixed” but it didn’t solve our issue. The appliance guys also quoted my timing piece for the dryer at $110, which I guess is pretty standard. He will be coming back to look at everything once the part comes in.

It was a pretty hectic day with potential bad news, if we have to pay for that pipe. The good news is that I got paid to day, so of course I am already out of money haha. Oh well, it gives me some breathing room for a few days. I’ll take it. 😀

That is all from me on this fine Wednesday, I hope to see you all back again tomorrow! 😀 😀

Home Office (Cabling)

Hey Everyone!

Yesterday I went to my first softball practice of the year, and I am sore. After shagging balls and hitting through a bucket of balls my back is killing me. We had a small turn out but it was OK because I did have another project to work on when I got home.

Once I got home, and into some work clothes, I gathered my tools and got to work running cable in my attic.

20170410_183811

In the picture above you can see my tool kit, drill bits, a dremel, my switch and some cables. There are a few more things there but meh. You can see that there is a little door on the wall. I had to crawl in there and go to the front of the house all while dragging two cables and a box cutter. I was using my phone as a flashlight. It was super tight and hot since there was insulation on both walls.

Once I got the cables in the correct spot I had to cut a hole through the insulation and the wall. I fished the cable through it so I could terminate the ends. The second cable ran across the floor at the front and into the crawl space on the other side of the room, where the process repeated. Below, you can see the mostly finished product. I have to get nuts to snug it up because the walls are too thin, but after that It will be good to go .

20170410_200829

I have to get the nuts and tables for desks and start moving things up there! I’m so excited.

We have a plumbing evaluation today right after I get out of work today. I hope everything is good for the most part, but I know we have some blockage. I hope it can be resolved easily. It is neat, our plumbing and heating company sent out coupons for a free evaluation. I would be dumb not to take advantage of that!

Tomorrow I am going over to a co-workers house right after work to set up his work email on his home computer. After that I have to go home and get ready for yet another masonic initiation. We are going through a second degree.

Throughout both of these days I want to get my office all done and set up so we can start getting a feel for a permanent spot. We have a file cabinet at my parents house that we need to bring over, as well as a few more things. This will also free up the bedroom that we are currently using as an office. I need to get quarter round trim on the floor but then we can decorate it as a spare bedroom for now.

That is all or today! I hope the rest of my week and yours goes smoothly. I’ll see you all back again tomorrow! 😀 😀

How Good Do We Have It?

Hey Everyone!

I would like to say I have good news, buuuut I don’t. Everything that was supposed to happen yesterday did not happen, and I am worse off than before. My hard drive is good to go but I now see that either my PC’s power supply or motherboard is dying. I will be taking home my voltmeter this weekend and testing the power supply. If everything is looking good I’ll know it is my motherboard. If it is the power supply I know it has a 10 year warranty, so it should just be a matter of contact with the vendor. If it happens to be the motherboard I will need the serial number and invoice, to give the MSI, the maker of the motherboard. I hope with each of those parts being less than two years old, that they will give me no trouble. That never seems to be the case, in my experience.

On the other, not great news, front my drivers side windshield wiper stopped working this morning. It can either be a striped nut or a wiring issue. the motor is fine and runs it just doesn’t move the blade. I’ll have to get at it tonight and get it fixed. The weather here isn’t great and I really could have used it this morning in the damn snow haha.

Since I was too involved in catching up with my paper scanning and temporary office setup, because of my broken computer, I never got to working on my tub or the tiles on the ceiling of the dining room. I have guests coming over tonight, but I hope to get some of this done tonight before they arrive. Depending on how long they stay, I will get more accomplished.

So my day again, unfortunately isn’t any better. I still stay positive but it gets harder every time something doesn’t go as it should. I am happy to have these first world problems. When I take the time to realize that I have it much better than most I can let some of the stress go. My problems are still problems to me but I know at the end of the day they are small things. let me see if I can find stats on some of this. Ah here we go!

From reference.com “approximately 34.3 of the worlds population have access to computers and internet. I am in that minority, and never think how good I have it.
Not sure how accurate this one is, but a Yahoo question of “What percentage of the worlds population own a car?” yielded this response: 4% own their car and 6% are still paying on theirs. Only 10% of the population own cars. Again making my windshield wiper issue super tiny.
Lastly,my tub/plumbing/basement issues are all related to plumbing in general. This figure from slate.com says that 60% of the worlds population don’t even have access to flushing toilets and water. So should I really let it ruin me, knowing that I have a leak?

Putting those again into perspective, sure they are still issues that I am personally dealing with. I definitely want and need them resolved. They are still a burden to me and my lifestyle, so yes they will still weigh on me. But in the grand scheme of things, if I ever get too stressed about them I can always step back and see how good I have it. I’m in a weird way lucky to have these issues in my life.

Have you ever found yourself in a similar situation? What are your thoughts? I would love to know how you handle issues with your first world items.

That is all for this week! I hope to report back Monday with some good news haha. Have a great weekend! 😀 😀

Cabin Build & A Mishap

Hey Everyone!

I am feeling much better than I was on Friday.

Saturday was busy, busy, with us heading out and starting a cabin build. My brother and I met at my dad’s house at around 10am and gathered what we needed. From there we stopped at Lowes for some lumber and we were on our way by 11am. Progress by picture….now:

Once we found our spot we had to square things up and dig post holes. This took the majority of the time. We ran into every tree root and rock in the ground, I promise. Here s my dad trying to get a rock out by hand.

20170218_125746

We made three sections like this one. 12′ across and 10′ deep. The cabin will be 24′ with a 6′ porch, as long as we don’t constantly change our minds. Here you can see my brother trying to dig a hole, with the help of his two Great Danes.

20170218_141808

Like I said before we made three of the same sections. Here are two of the sections. Don’t mind that the posts are all messed up. They aren’t set in the ground or squared at the top.

20170218_145315

Along the way we met this little buddy!

20170218_145748

Here we have all three sections up and squared at the bottom. We still haven’t set the posts because if we have to move them in any way or dig beside them we still can. The creek is off to the right, where the porch will face.

20170218_154114

Since we strayed away from making a 40′ cabin we had a few boards left over. We used them to straighten up the top of some of the posts. My brother and dad want rafters, to help with making the roof, but I think it is a terrible idea. The standing room will only be about 6′ if they do. One or two would be fine for stability but I think they should just make gable ends and run a ridge beam. That would make the standing height over 8′.

20170218_162032

Here is just a picture I took riding on the back of my brother’s 4-wheeler, after we were all done. I went to cut firewood for home, only to realize that my chain was all jacked up. I had to use my chainsaw to get a few roots in the post holes, and I must have chewed it up on rocks. :/ ( A little muddy)

20170218_165415

When it was all said and done, we left around 5pm

20170218_172511

After our jam packed Saturday we wanted to go out again Sunday but my dad wanted to watch his NASCAR race. Sunday was spent around the house, until the worst thing happened. We filled our bath tub for the first time only to realize that our overflow doesn’t drain into a pipe, or that our waterproof seal isn’t water proof! We had water from the second floor all the way into the basement. I called a plumber this morning to make the official call about what happened, even though I’m sure it is one of the two things I stated. Still here at about 1pm I haven’t received a call from them :/

On a better note I will be having our final pieces of furniture delivered on the 23rd of this month! It will be a good feeling to not have to worry about tracking huge packages for a while.

I hope you all had a great weekend. I know I did, up until last night haha. I hope to see you all back again tomorrow! 😀 😀

OH! By the way, I have had more views these past two months, than I had all last year (Starting in May) so eight months! That’s awesome, thank you all so much. 😀 😀
