Work Thoughts

Hey Everyone!

I have been moderately busy today which is nice. Our company has been slow this past year and a half. We are in the Manufacturing and Transportation industry so the supply and demand goes through phases. We cater to tanker trucks, in regards to their lights and light kits, manholes, and different valves. I’m in the IT department so I’m not really messed up by a down turn but when they started laying people off I felt the pressure since I have only been here about two years.

The good news is that for now anyway, some of the people that were laid off last have come back and it isn’t because the lay off time was up, it was due to increased orders. YAY US! I guess they have had worse down turns than this but this one was one of the worst. We laid off about 40 people this past year, and again thankfully they didn’t come in to the offices they kept it all in the shop. I hope we pick up and stay up for a while. The last thing I need on my mind is a worry of being let go from a good company.

Today at work we have a road crew working on a gas line and a tree company taking down some trees. It is pretty noisy around here. I have managed to put out a few metaphorical fires anyway. Soon we will be adding a new server and upgrading our domain level to a Windows Server 2012 R2 status. This coming from a Windows Server 2008 level. We will also be adding virtualization for the first time within the company to reduce the later need for more hardware. I have my October PCs ordered so when they come I’ll be setting them up. Oh speaking of that, I will be swapping my PC when that happens, so I’m not sure if that will effect my posting ability. I would hope that everything goes well and in that case I should be fine. Although now that I think about it I haven’t got the requisition back yet so I hope they got ordered. I’ll have to checkΒ  haha. I try to keep track of what I spend each year in a spreadsheet. I am on track to spend about 25,000 on PCs and stock alone this year, which is comparable to last years total so I’m good with that. If that sounds like a lot it really isn’t when you take in to consideration that they will buy one CNC lathe for $250,000 lol.

We are going to look at another house tonight so wish us luck we need something fast! Well I best get back to work, thanks for stopping by. I’ll see you tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Health Fair & House Search

Hey there!

So, yesterday my company provided a health fair. They did a weight and height check first and then pricked our fingers. They took a small sample of blood and threw it in a machine, to check our cholesterol. While they were waiting for that to process they checked our blood pressure.

My blood pressure was normal and so was my blood sugar. My cholesterol was high. I am missing some good cholesterol (HDL) and I have too much bad cholesterol (LDL) This really means that I need to eat better and exercise. To work on my weight a little bit I will cut out the carbs (breads and things) in my breakfast and I won’t snack and drink pop. That should help all around. During the winter months a few guys at work rent a gym and play basketball on Sundays. I will join them again this year and get some exercise that way. This all together should help my heath.

After the screening they had healthy snacks and drinks for everyone since we had to fast for 12 hours to get accurate readings. Then it was back to work as usual.

As far as the house search is concerned , we are hopefully looking at another house in a quiet neighborhood tonight. This is less move in ready but is at a much better price point. With hopefully only minimal work we could have it the way we want it. My wife is concerned with the size of the kitchen. I am worried about the floors under the ugly carpet and the wood paneling on the walls. These issues would come second to anything major like electrical or plumbing. The yard is big and mostly fenced in. We would almost just want another fence because this one may be too short, and our dog would leave.

Some of the other houses we have been looking at all just have really small bedrooms and are missing some other key features. I’ll keep you all posted.

That is all for today I guess, short and simple. I’ll see you tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Presidential Debate & Minecraft

Hey Everyone!

Unless you live in a different country or live under a rock. We here in the United States had our first Presidential debate last night. It was attempted to be moderated by Lester Holt from NBC. He did a good job considering all things. As most of you know the republican candidate is Donald Trump, who has no political experience and the democratic candidate is Hillary Clinton, who has had plenty.

american-flag-banner.jpg

I’m not going to right about who is my favorite and push any view down your throats. I have a background in Sociology and like to take deeper looks in to the way the candidates behaved, spoke, reacted. Since I don’t need this to be the longest post in history I’ll just point out a few things I saw. I’m not sure how long slander and bad mouthing other candidates has been uses as a tactic, but I just find it tacky. Both have done it and it doesn’t make anything better in any way.

Hillary came off very poised last night. She was calm and collected. You could tell she has done her homework and you can tell his isn’t her first time in the political spotlight. She didn’t really attack Donald personally, except a bit for his non-released taxes, and new tax plan. She was using phrases such as “Trump loophole” and “Trumped-up.” There were times where you could see in her facial expressions and closed body language that she was shying away from a few questions and accusations. When she did speak it was in a confident fashion. She spoke more about helping the middle class directly and more about policy.

Donald started well, and held some sort of composure most of the debate. He strayed a few times and did his fair share of interrupting. People knew he would do this and so did Hillary. By letting him interrupt and holding her tongue while he spoke made her look like the more calm candidate. Donald knows what his plans are but just doesn’t have the experience in the political limelight. This creates a situation where he has trouble articulating what he is trying to get across. This doesn’t necessarily make either one of them a better choice. It just shows who is more versed in public speaking. He was confident in all of his words. He seemed a bit to defensive when he got pushed into a corner on some issues. He would just state that the accusations were “wrong.” He took a few shots on Hillary personally regarding her trade deals, and her deleted e-mails. Donald is a big fan of using his hands and arms to talk and that can be a good and a bad thing. Some times it helps prove your point and other times it can be very distracting. Donald spoke more about cutting taxes like Ronald Regan and helping the wealthy to create more jobs. He wants to run the company more like a business.

Overall, differences aside, at the end of the night they both agreed that if the other candidate won that they would support them. This is just a nice way to tie things up. You know damn well that they really don’t like each other, and won’t support each other in really anyway after the election.

Ok enough about that mess. I have been busy on my server. I have created a better place o keep my animals:

mine44.png

Here you can see my raised chicken coop and the other four stalls. Here is the under side of the raised coop:

mine45.png

The chickens sit on carpet. Under the carpet are hoppers and chests. This will collect all the feathers and eggs that drop from the chickens. This makes for easy collection. Here is another angle or it all :

mine46.png

This was pretty major in itself, but I also followed this video by MumboJumbo’s YouTube channel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Gb4VUT_HLU . It is a great video on making an automatic tree farm. I made the whole thing and closed in the collection side with obsidian. Check it out:

mine47mine48

The first picture is where all the wood stacks up and gets stored it moves over every time it hits the un-movable wall. The second shows where you plant the saplings and start the process. It detects when a tree grows and pushed it out and crushes the leaves in the process. There are hoppers under the machine that feed into the chests in the front. This will collect saplings for future use. It is a really neat machine, don’t for get to check it out.

Feel free to comment about the debate or Mincecraft down below guys, don’t be shy πŸ˜‰

That is all for today. I hope you all have a great Tuesday! I’ll see you all tomorrow. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Wedding Weekend

Welcome Back Everyone!

If feels like it has been a long time since I posted last, just because I didn’t have a post for Friday. We will just jump right into it.

Friday I left work early to go home and pack for the wedding that my wife and I were going to. We left about mid afternoon, back to our old college town. This was were the wedding was being held. We were glad to get away from family and pets for the weekend. We booked a room at a local Comfort Suites. We are pretty sure that we didn’t get the room that we booked. We bought and paid for a suite and seemingly just got a normal room with a king bed. That was ok, we could handle it. After checking in we headed to the venue for the rehearsal. Again, reason being that my wife was one of the bridesmaids. The rehearsal went smoothly and we headed to a local brewery for dinner. They had a decent sized vegan buffet for everyone. I am in no way a vegan but some of the food they had there was really good. I kind of regret not getting any good pictures of the food or the wedding venue. I’ll find you a good one from google πŸ˜‰

goodell-gardens-barn1.jpg

This is the barn that held the reception at the same place. The rest of the yard is a garden and that is where they got married. One more, major thing popped up before Friday night ended. For me it kind of spiraled my ideal weekend out of control. My wife had all the bridesmaids write a letter to the bride. Well she remembered late Friday night that she left one back home over an hour and a half away. She wanted to give them to her in the morning. I got a hold of my parents and they agreed to meet us half way with the letter Saturday morning. We made our way back to the hotel and I decided to check in on the pool and hot tub, since I planned on spending my whole day in there until the wedding. Again, spiral, the hot tub was down for maintenance. DOH! This wasn’t looking good for me.

Saturday came and my wife went to get her hair done. I had woken up with splitting headache. I stayed in bed until she got back. We then had to get in the car and rush down to meet my parents. We picked up the letter and came back. I dropped my wife off at the venue and went back to the hotel. Finally, a chance to hangout and try to get rid of my headache. This was a great idea until my wife calls me and asked if she forgot her bra, which she did. So as I was getting comfortable I got up and got dressed again. I brought it to her and at this point I didn’t really even want to go to the wedding.

I showered twice and got my headache to subside. I made it o the wedding. It was nice and sunny with a slight breeze. It was a quick but nice ceremony. One thing that stood out was that they made a “Unity” PB&J instead of sand or a candle. That was neat. We retired to the tents behind the barn and waited for the bridal party to get pictures. I met up with my wife’s family and caught up with them a bit. Dinner came and it was good. They had it catered by a BBQ restaurant in the area. We had BBQ chicken and pulled pork, with corn bread muffins, potatoes, and mac and cheese. They had a good DJ and the reception lasted another six hours.

The next day we got up and ready to go. We had to be out of the hotel by 11am. They had a minimal breakfast each morning that was nothing special, but it was food. We got our stuff and didn’t feel like we relaxed at all the whole weekend. We got home and finished up some house work that we ignored. Over all I’m glad we went, it was nice, and we did end up having a pretty good time. Some things didn’t go our way but we did the best with the situations that arose.

I hope you all had a great weekend. If you did anything exciting feel free to let me know in the comments below, I’d love to hear about it. I” be seeing you all again tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Health Fair & Minecraft Server

Hey Guys and Gals!

This will be my last post this week, since I will be traveling early tomorrow to attend a wedding. I’ll try to make this a good one. Who am I kidding, They are all good!

My employer does this thing to determine how much they help with health insurance. We recently switched from Blue Cross/Blue Shield to UPMC. There was a three step list that we had to follow to obtain the maximum in company support. The first was that we had to register on the UPMC website and fill out a heath questionnaire.Β  This was easy for me, but for others was above and beyond their technical spectrum. I was able to assist our HR department in helping fellow co-workers fill out their survey if they needed or wanted help. It is estimated that this form takes over 30 minutes to complete. With my help some were able to get in done in under 10 minutes. I had helped so many people that I practically memorized the questions. At the end of the process it would compare your results to others in your age range. The second step was to obtain at least 200 wellness points. This is a point based system set up by UPMC. By the way this is all offered to spouses as well. Getting an annual preventative exam was 200 points. So if you went and got a physical you were covered. Lastly, is that you have to attend this health fair thing. UPMC is coming and rolling up with a health trailer. They will have us set up in a time slot and we will go over. They will check our blood pressure, cholesterol, height, weight, blood sugars, and A1C. It is pretty in depth. They will print out a more accurate reading of our health. This all needs to be done so that our company will cover the maximum allowed, pertaining to our insurance rate.

As for the Minecraft server update, we are still up and running. I haven’t seen much traffic on the server, other than myself, but that is ok for now. I’ll be looking to publish the IP in the Minecraft forums soon. I would like to know how to use the white list feature better . I would only want certain people in the server. Ya know, people who would obey the rules and have a good time. If you want to check it now the addess is: M1n3cr4ft.ddns.net . Being the only one in the server most of the time has been nice though, since I have been able to build pretty col things. I also tried out a few resource packs. I am currently using “Equanimity”:

mine41.png

The last thing that I built was an automatic cactus farm. I have a picture for you as well:

mine42.png

It is really simple. You make a 9×9 square, one layer deep. Next you pour a bucket of water in each corner. This will leave the middle block empty. Dig that middle spot two deep. Place a chest at the bottom and a hopper on top of it. (Hold Shift ad place the item on top) Next go one block above the water and place a block of your choice in every other spot, all the way around and in the middle. ( I built mine two high, you don’t have to do that) Next place a block of sand on the blocks you just placed. Following that place the cactus on the sand.Β  Lastly in the middle of the four sets of four, place a block with signs on all sides. This will make sure that when the cactus grows it will pop off and fall in the water. Since you placed the water in the corners it will all float to the middle. From there it will fall in the hopper and then go into the chest. All that it left to do is go outside your farm and dig down four blocks and in to the middle until out find your chest. I made a quick over head view for you in paint haha.

mine43.png

Here is your 9×9 over head view. If you look straight down this is what you will see. The blue is clearly water. The green is the cactus, on the block of choice. The light brown is the block in the middle of all the cactus, this is the square with signs on all sides. Lastly the grey in the middle is the hopper at water level and has a chest under it.

That’s all I have for you today, thank you for stopping by. I will see you all again Monday. I’ll be sure to fill you in on the wedding, and anything else that happened. Until then have a great day and a great weekend. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Blah day

Hey There Everyone!

Today has been slow overall for me here at work. Everything is in working order and no one is having any issues that are too complicated. Last night my wife and I ran out and drove past a few houses that are for sale in the area, but didn’t really see anything that we liked. We really hope the right house pops up soon. It is exhausting when all we can do it wait.

My brother had let me know that they need a car seat for his truck for their new baby. I found the one hey liked and bought it for them yesterday evening. It is a nice Graco 4ever seat. It can be used until she is ten years old or 120lbs. They have one now but it will be easily out grown and any time they take a different vehicle they have to swap the car seat out. So it will be a good first real gift to them from me.

This weekend can’t come soon enough. My wife and I have been waiting to get away for a relaxing weekend for far too long. We have a wedding to attend, in our old college town. We will both be out of work early on Friday to get out there for the rehearsal and dinner. We are staying in a Comfort Suites Hotel, we have a pretty nice room and will be away from family and pets for the three days that we will be out there. It doesn’t seem like much but Living back home with your parents after you have been out on your own for 7 years is a huge pain in the ass. They mean well and we know it is a good idea to help us, but it is still rough.Β  I will be staying in a nice bed:

comfort.JPG

And I will definitely be using this hot tub πŸ˜€

comfort2

Gah! I can’t wait, to be here. We will be in our old stomping grounds too, so we know where to go and what to do in the small amount of free time we will have.

Today was payday for me, and boy did I need it. I managed to rack up a good credit card balance. I won’t be able to pay it all off with this one check but it will make a good dent that is for sure. I bought a few things for my truck, a wedding gift, a car seat, a few meals, a member book through my college fraternity, dog &cat food, and a couple other small things. It added up quick.

I hope you all have a good hump day, and I’ll see you tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

p.s. If you have the time, let me know in the comments below what your favorite getaway spot is, and what you like to do to relax?

Peace!

Wedding Photography & Home Search

Happy Monday Everyone!!

I’m glad you all made it back. I had a very busy weekend like I knew I would. It went fast but it was fun at the same time. Friday night my wife came home from her week long training and we just went right to bed. We knew we had a long 10+ hour day on Saturday. We woke up early and made sure that we had everything that we needed for the wedding. It was overcast all day which believe it or not helps when taking pictures. You don’t have to play the sun and just have a good amount of natural light all over. I dropped my wife off at a house where the girls were getting ready and then hurried back to the reception hall. about an hour later the guys came filing in. My one best friend was in the wedding and had his two little twin boys with him, they were the ring bearers. I was in charge of shooting them while they got ready.

Once that was done I followed the guys to the ceremony spot. It was in a nice park with a small stone building. We had some time to kill before the girls arrived in their party bus. I was able to pose the guys in a few ways that the bride requested. Turns out the bus showed up super late for the girls and they were about a half hour late to the park. People were there and ready for a wedding, so when the girls got there it started instantly. Like I said, the venue was small but cozy and nice. It was a quick ceremony, so no one had time to get bored haha. Most of the people left and headed to the reception hall. We stayed behind with the bridal party, and families for more pictures. We ran through the list of photos that the bride wanted. The coolest part was for the last real picture they arranged themselves in a heart and let me take the drone up. I got a few good shots to make sure I had a usable photo. Again my favorite little twin ring bearers were obsessed with the drone so I flew it real low beside them and took a few photos of them. The flower girl got in on that action too.

We all left and went back to the reception hall, and fairly soon after they introduced the bridal party. Then the normal wedding festivities began. They did the dances and the cake cutting, eating, and following that they did the garter and bouquet toss. The rest of the time were were there they did a dollar dance, which is when you come up and pay a dollar and dance with the bride or groom for about 30 seconds. All the money goes to them for things that they will need as newlyweds. We got out of there at 9pm and we were beat. It is hard work being on your feet all day and holding a heavy camera. It hurts your back and knees more than you think it would. We got home and plopped into bed and that was that.

As for our home buying situation, we were supposed to draft a contract for one house today. We are doing a walk though of it at 6pm today, but we are pretty sure we don’t want it anymore. We found out that we really wouldn’t own the driveway and its next to a parking lot. We would have people blocking the garage all the time. It is really big, probably too big. It would work but we realized that if we only want to buy one house we want it to be what we want. So in light of that realization, we upped our price point to look at some houses that are at the top of our realistic budget. WeΒ  found one that has been on the market for four days, and its perfect. It has most everything that we wanted and needed. The yard is great, it has sheds, a garage, 3 bed , a finished basement, and in a really nice neighborhood. I want to jump on it before we are kicking ourselves when someone else buys it. The price is on the high end for us, but if it is a house that we want to live in for 30-40 years it would be worth paying for. We would have to manage our money well and I think we can do that. Anyway we are also looking at that house tonight and I would love to put in an offer for it instead.

That is all I have today guys I hope you have a great week! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Sad News, Rainbow 6, & Weekend

Hey Everyone.

I hate to start this post off on a sad note but I must. My brother and his fiance had a 10 year old Boxer named Grady and they had to put him down yesterday. 😦 My brother text me after work and asked for my help to go with him and deal with it all. His health was worsening and he had something wrong with his back and hips. I just saw him Monday and thought to my self that it may be the last time I see him. Sadly I was right. They knew right along that he wouldn’t make it to or through the winter so it was coming no matter what but it still stinks. After he was put down my brother and I drove him to her dads house to be buried in their pet cemetery. I was doubly hard for me to see my brother shaken up by it all , since he doesn’t usually show that kind of emotion. On a better note he is not in any kind of pain any more and my brother and his fiance have a new baby girl to keep them occupied.

Totally switching gears, I did indeed go play Rainbow 6: Siege when I was home. I ran through half of the training “Situations” and found that there is a lot to this game. I was able to meet up with my buddy and play some multiplayer games with him. As a first person shooter veteran I must say that I suck! There are more elements to this game than any fps I have seen in a long time. I like the game but I don’t know the maps or the Operators. Once I know those better I’ll love it. Oh ya! When I get more than 1 kill per game I’ll be much happier haha. I was able to unlock five different Operators and mods for two loadouts. I would love to play it again tonight but I have a prior commitment to play D&D with some other nerd friends of mine. I have to say I’m not very fond of D&D, it is too slow paced for me and kinda dumb.

My weekend as you probably have guessed is busy and packed full of stuff to do. Thus keeping me from doing things I want to do. Tonight it will be D&D for an estimated four hours. Saturday I will again be helping my wife take photos of a wedding around the area. It will be all day and very hectic. Just like that It will be Sunday and we have some house work and cleaning to do.Β  We are still hopefully going to look at that house again Monday. I still haven’t heard back from the realtor. I am kinda torn on the house. I love that we would have the space that we do, but it may almost be too big. I has a yard but not a big one like we kinda wanted. It has a garage and I hope it would have enough space for other things besides just two cars. We ideally wanted a house out side of town and this house is smack dab in the downtown historical district. Lastly I am weary of getting attached to it because it is over 100 years old and have haven’t gotten an inspection yet. We will just have to wait and see if we can get it a clean bill of health and get it for a steal of a deal.

That’s all for now, I’ll see you again Monday afternoon! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Sidetracked!

Hey There!

So all damn day today I haven’t done anything lol. I meant to, and I have some stuff that I could be doing and could have done, but I didn’t. I will tell you what I did instead. I was here early to work like I am every day and started catching up on my daily YouTube favorites, Philip DeFranco and Casey Neistat, when I saw a recommended video. This was the first in a series of 8 videos that the Neistat brothers (Van and Casey) ended up selling to HBO years ago. Since I have become a huge fan of Casey I decided to give it a look. It was super interesting and gave a ton of backstory into how he is who he is and why. You learn about his family and his upbringing. It doesn’t hurt to see his now wife Candice Pool in a bikini and even topless in the third episode haha. But this all being said They were 30 minute videos and that’s right you did the math, it was about 4 hours of my life. Here is where you can find it:

Neistat.png

I got lost in the videos, and now I blink and its 1:30pm. Whoops! I will finish up some stuff here at the office and then I have something else that I will be doing after work.

Once that bell rings at 4pm I am going straight to Auto Zone one last time, for a while anyway, to pick up a jack and stand kit for about $70, and some bed liner spray. This will be used most likely next week, when I have more time. I will be painting the stock rims on my truck with the same paint that I did the whole truck in. This including the jack set will be under $100. I am hurting for my pay check to clear my credit card bill haha, it will all be better next Wednesday! This is the one I’ll be grabbing, I think:

jack.png

I stated that I was busy tonight, and I am . I will be playing Rainbow Six: Siege for the first time. My old college roommate and best friend had been telling me to get it since it came out and I finally broke down and got it last night. It was a 50GB install and seems to be well worth it from what I have seen so far. I let it install over night so it will be ready for me when I get home.Β  I will be busy with the second round of D&D with my friends Friday night , thanks to Tabletop Simulator. And following that my wife and I have another wedding to shoot Saturday! So we have another busy weekend yet again.

That’s all I have for you guys today, I’ll see you tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Truck Update

Hey Everyone!

Yesterday I got the call saying that my cold air intake was in, so I picked it up after work and went home straight away. I have never replaced one before and didn’t really have any insights. It was a little more complicated than I thought it would be. On top of that it was a super tight fit. Taking the old filter system out was as easy as popping out a few screws and pulling. Once it was out it seemed like there was plenty of space. I had to assemble the heat shield for the new intake, and mount it in the front right corner. This was where the old air box was. Next I connected the rubber angle tube to the throttle body and fastened it with a hose clamp, that was provided. I then did some fancy maneuvers with the main tubing, to get it in and under all of the hoses. I dropped the air filter in the corner by the heat shield first so it was in before the tubing. I had to install the breather tube as well. It sat behind the throttle body and went to the main tube for the intake. I used hose clamps on both ends for that as well. I fit the main tube into the rubber angled fitting and clamped it down. I then attached the filter to the other end with yet again another hose clamp. I had to make sure that I inserted the O2 sensor in the main tube through a hole and rubber grommet. I took a look and then shook it a bit fairly hard to see how it would possible move, if at all. I decided to use some of the excess insulated rubber tubing from the breather and squeeze it in between a few spots that I didn’t want it to bump up against. The clearance is tiny in the one corner and it scares me but it shouldn’t move so I hope there won’t be any issues. Here are a few pictures for you to get an idea.

GAH SO CLOSE!!!!^^^^^

resized_20160913_190939

On a different note, I have been in contact with our realtor and I think we are going to do a second walk through of the house we like on Monday. The only thing that worries me is that it may have things wrong with it, and that it is a big house. I don’t want to spend every weekend cleaning a huge house. We will see what comes of it. I’ll keep you posted.

I’ll see you all tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€
