What A Day!

Hey Everyone!

I wasn’t able to get a post out yesterday, and for that I apologize. Aside from being swamped at work, I had to meet with the plumber once again, and take the dog to the vet.

This weekend was fun and now I’m sore. We played 5 softball games on Saturday with a fairly new younger team. Still the same core people but some nice additions. We will have a good team this year. It was a long hot day, but felt great to get back out there.

Back to yesterday.

First at work I have been setting up a few machines at the same time trying to get everything out at the right time. I have a ton of things in my office. If you didn’t know better you would start to think it was a storage shed haha.

Over the weekend our big sink that the washer drains into, was clogged. Without being able to do laundry or wash the paint sprayer, we were sitting ducks. So around 11 am I got the call that the plumber was on his way. I was with him at my house until about 1 pm. They were the same company that I used before. He took apart all of the fixtures to the sink and moved it out of the way.

1

Until we were left with just this pipe sticking out of the ground.

2

In that picture you can see the small trap on the floor and his snake. He ran that a couple of times before doing this.

3

This is a balloon mechanism that you feed water into. the end expands, like a balloon, in the pipe so a seal forms. It then uses a tight nozzle on the end to shoot water out in a jet stream and blast the gunk out of the small pipe in the the main line. Thankfully this worked and we were able to clear the pipe. He put every thing back together and back to work I went.

I was only at work for another couple hours before I had to leave early to pick up Everett. Once I got home I turned right back around with the dog and took her to the vet for her annual Lyme vaccine. She lost the winter weight, and they said she looks and sounds great. We will take that win! She is a real pain in the ass at the vet. She walks in the door every time and starts barking non stop until she is put in a room. They put her in one early because she was so annoying haha. Its always a struggle.

I finally made it home and changed my clothes, and headed out to paint some of the fence. The weather isn’t looking great for the end of this week so I wanted to make sure I used the good days while they were here. My paint is getting old and the latex is getting a bit chunky? I guess? So the sprayer is getting clogged and isn’t working well. I decided to hand paint all of the weird spots like the 4×4 posts, and 2×4 supporting beams. this way when I go get another fresh gallon tonight, I can just spray the boards and maybe be done! that would be great.

That was my busy weekend and even busier Monday! I hope you had a great weekend as well, and I hope to see you back again tomorrow! 😀 😀

How Is Your Thursday?

Hey Everyone!

My Thursday is moving along at a very average pace. Not sure how I feel about that. :/

Last night was a stated Masonic meeting night for me. That always involves wearing a suit and tie, and being gone most of the evening. My wife isn’t super fond of that, but generally it is only one night a month. Last night warm, which makes for an uncomfortable meeting. We had a nice dinner of spaghetti and meatballs with a nice salad bar. For desert we had ice cream and cupcakes. One of our members is the Sheriff and he had a presentation about drugs in our area and how we got to this point. It was pretty interesting. I think it is about time for him to retire though. His views and knowledge on certain things are dated, and some of the things that hang him up, are things that people my age know as common knowledge. I think it would be best to get some one in that position that is with the times a bit more. For the sake of productivity only. I believe that this guy has done a fine job for years in our area. Overall it was a great night for fellowship.

It is rainy and supposed to storm here within the next couple hours, so nothing will be accomplished tonight haha. My wife and I are working on things to gift each other for our upcoming anniversary and mother/father’s day. We know that a physical gift isn’t necessary, but we like taking the time to find something that each of us needs. Most of the time it is something that the other person would have just gotten themselves so we aren’t really out there with our choices. I have been putting together a simple list of things I could use, like a table saw or plunge router for out in the garage. Looking another way I also suggested a couple different types of Ukuleles I’ve had my eye on. Like I’ve said in another post, our May is packed with stuff, anniversaries, holidays, birthdays, and a vacation. that will just result in more pictures for my posts! haha

I have a bit more work to do to finish painting the fence. I would like to have it finished before Everett’s party. It will be a challenge because I have softball starting up this weekend, and I have to fight with the weather and paint sprayer to get it done. My goal is to have it done and be able to power wash the deck before people come over. Who knows! Once that project is complete I would like to make a scrap wood container on wheels. I want to model it from April Wilkerson’s ‘Lumber Rack’ which can be found: Here! I really love her videos, and she makes things people would actually want haha.

Anyway! that is all for me today. Not much going on. I’ll be back again tomorrow for what is hopefully a Friday morning “Coffee Talk” Fingers crossed! 😀 😀

I Started A Thing!

Hey Everyone!

It would appear that I kept my ‘Productive Weekend’ going strong yesterday. I stopped at my dad’s house after work and picked up his paint sprayer. I have never used one before and really wasn’t sure if I was capable of doing a good enough job. My intentions were to try a small area out of sight to test my skills. That happened to turn in to me painting the whole outside of my entire fence!

Here is the inside for comparison. It is just treated fence wood from Lowes that has been out in the elements for over a year.

The Red that is in the last picture was there previously so we did our best to color match that.

And going up the stairs (That is only there because my dog decided to jump the railing…

I also did the back behind my garage and across the back of my yard, until I ran into my backdoor neighbors bushes, and the front part facing the road on the other side. I would like to get the rest of the back pained but I’ll have to fight with their bushes like we did putting the fence in haha. I just like a complete job is all.

I would like to have the rest of it painted before Everett’s first birthday party. the hard part will be up there by the landing. I tried to cover the siding as best I could, but some the paint took off with the wind and speckled some of the siding a bit. I’ll have to see if a pressure washer will take it off. After all it is latex paint, who knows haha. I may hand paint the inside by the landing to avoid that entirely, it will just take quite a bit longer.

That is all the excitement from yesterday, it is raining today so I won’t be able to get back at this for a while. It will be eating away at me for sure. I hope you enjoyed this little post, and I’ll see you all again tomorrow! 😀 😀

A Farewell To A Good Man

Hey Everyone!

(I will have two posts today. I would like to talk about a topic that isn’t necessarily about daily life in another post.)

I want to start off with a somber and somewhat sad topic. There is a guy that I have worked with the past two years, whose last day was today. I grew up with his children, in the same small town. I knew of him growing up, and know him better now that I have had the opportunity to work with him. He didn’t retire, he has cancer. His cancer was supposed to kill him long ago. He has fought it, and continues to, for the past 10 years. He has exhausted his time off and has run out of available FMLA. He has kind of been forced out, by the legality of operating a company. From a company stand point they can’t really do any more for him. His time has simply run out. We had a luncheon for him just a half hour ago. It was put on by his department, sales. They presented him with a metal plaque, with his face and one liners he used engraved on it. His family was there and they gave a few speeches. He worked her for nearly 20 years and is loved by just about everyone. Since I started working here he was the one that ran the company basketball games that we had every Sunday. It was at his church’s gym. At the half way point of us playing we would stop ,and even though it is not my thing, and pray for people in our lives and at work. These are all things that no one had to do, but he did. He will be missed here at work and when he does pass on he will be greatly missed by many. It is just something that I wanted to write about, to get it out of my mind a bit and share a bit about a good man.

Yesterday we got our baby chair that we have been waiting for. It matches very well, and sits in the corner, just like it belongs there haha. Take a look:

20170126_171530.jpg

This weekend has a few things in store for me. Later today I have to make a trip up to Lowes. Last night I got measurements for baseboard and quarter round trim, in the baby’s room and the attic. Tonight we will go up and try to find what we need. I may be making a purchase of a nail gun, that way I’ll have a way to fasten everything to the wall. To cut the trim I may barrow my co-workers Miter Saw. I also need to pick up a hinge for the closet, a can of paint and stain, and possibly a door knob. Tonight may end up being a bit more expensive than we expect. I am trying top pay down my credit card bill for all of the furniture while doing this so I have been reserved on some f these projects, but getting the baby’s room done needs to happen. The attic on the other hand needs to get done so that we can move all of our books from my parent’s house to our own.

The rest of the weekend we will be touching up some paint on the walls, that either didn’t get covered enough or was ripped off by the painters tape. (Which isn’t supposed to happen in the first place!)

That is all for this post. I will see you all back here on Monday! I hope to see you then. 😀 😀

Quite The Little Rant

Hey Everyone!

I have been pretty stressed today about a few things. I wasn’t really in a bad mood until my wife called me, and the subject of paint, painting and our on going hole in the wall project came up. We started to peel the tape away and of course like every other wall we taped, the paint peels off. The majority of it is white around the base board and the ceilings, so we will be going to get a half gallon or so of white to touch those spots up. The dining room however had tape down the walls, since we only painted one. The paint is a deep dark gray and we are hoping that the old paint can is in our basement from when they painted it. If not we are going to have to chip some off and hope for a color match. It is pretty annoying that we have gone through the process of painting these walls only to try and finish them up and realize that there is more to do.

The hole in the wall is a whole other story. I’m still fearful that this contractor we had come help us will flake out and not come back. We started the project when we moved in mid November. It was supposed to take one weekend and be done. It is now almost February and he still hasn’t come back the final time to do the last remaining parts that he said he would do. Again as for some backstory he offered to help us as a favor for her mother, and we would pay for the supplies. He lives over an hour away and hes just a shady  guy. We need him to come back one last time to caulk the sides of the counter and secure it, so that it won’t move. He also bought trim that has been leaning on our wall for a month and is supposed to put that up too. My wife was in contact with him yesterday and he told her that he has another project to finish up and that he would come. She told him that we are free every evening and that he could come anytime, and he never said anything back. Since this whole thing was a move by my wife and a deal from her mother I’m letting her handle this all, but today I told her to get an exact date and time and to get his ass down here. It’s like the straw that broke the camels back, in a way. I have been dealing with this guy and this long wait time, on top of him showing up late twice and once not until the next day for too long. I want this over and done with and it needs to happen soon. Its also like being stuck between a rock and a hard place, in that if I lose my cool and talk to him myself he has the option to disappear forever and never come back, since my wife already paid him. (Which I didn’t know about until after and then informed her was a very bad idea.) I hope that she can just get a damn answer from him and get him here. He was saying he would be here this week but here it is , Thursday, and we haven’t heard that he will be here at all. This is very much so a rant and I’m sorry for that but this stems from a phone call that I was on not 5 minutes before my time to write.

On a much lighter note, my crib and dresser/changing table came yesterday. I spent about five hours last night putting them together, peacefully. I was alone and had my Pandora music app running as loud as it would go. Here are a couple pictures:

This first one is of the crib itself. There is a drawer on the bottom that I didn’t know was there until I built it haha. Also as a side note the metal bear that was on the wall in the middle is down in the crib because it fell off the wall. the Velcro that we used won’t hold it. I will have to anchor it in the wall and use screws.

20170125_214951

As you can guess, this one is the dresser. It was much heavier than I thought it would be. It turned out great and I didn’t have any issues putting it together at all. We bought the pad and mattress separate they just happened to come on the same day.

20170125_214958

Another bit of furniture news, our chair that goes in the babies room was delivered this morning. Once I get home and check for the paint that we need I will be putting that together and getting it all situated. Pictures will come as well, as long as I can remember to take them.

Thank you for stopping by today and sorry for my rant, sometimes you just have to vent. I hope you all enjoy the rest of your Thursday, and I’ll try to do the same. Talk to you tomorrow! 😀 😀

Picture Update: Kitchen Edition

Hey Everyone!

This is my update to the kitchen project. I have a few pictures here showing what we have so far. (Don’t mind the mess, we have no where for anything to go at the moment)

This first one is of the lights themselves. They are hanging by a braided rope, into a stainless steel fixture. They each have an individual switch and are also connected to a switch on the wall beside them. You can”t really tell in this picture but they are the bulbs with the funky filament, which looks cool. They give off a warm light, not a bright white.

20161227_190634

This next one shows you from the dining room looking into the kitchen. You can kind of see the small width of the kitchen here. It really opens everything up. The counter top isn’t fastened or caulked yet but we have some primer on this side. The kitchen at this point is completely painted that blue gray color you see. We will be painting this wall lighter than that left wall, but darker than the kitchen. We aren’t a huge fan of the tan counter tops but it works for now. (Again, don’t mind the mess)20161227_190823

This last one is another angle from the dining room into the kitchen. You can see the wall outlet and switch in this picture as well as how narrow the kitchen is. This has been a huge process but it really was worth it. It has taken much longer than we had originally planned but it will look good. 20161227_190903

Whats left? The trim still has to go on the bottom of the dining room side, under the counter top. We also need to paint the dining room wall. Next will be touching up some of the paint in the kitchen. The contractor will also have to come back for the fastening and caulking, but other than that we can put this project in the books. About time haha

Once we get it all done and cleaned up I’ll try to get a better picture of the finished product. Thank you for stopping by. Feel free to share your thoughts, or ask questions. I’ll be back tomorrow, I hope to see you all then! : D: D

Family Time

Welcome Back Everyone!

Again it has been too long. I had quite a bit going on this long weekend, and a few updates that I would like to share. As for the Christmas holiday we started Saturday morning, bright and early. We woke up and headed to my wife’s home town at about 8 am. We were having breakfast with her father, his girlfriend, their baby, and her sister. It ended up being more of a brunch since we got there at about 10:30 am. They already had an egg bake of some kind in the oven when we got there. It was delicious! It had hash browns in it as well as veggies, and cheese. My wife and I brought a cinnamon role crock pot desert that turned out better than expected, since we were in a rush to get it done. It was a great way to catch up with everyone and play with the baby. He is about 8 or 9 months and is a solid child haha. He is just learning how to stand and say a few words. If I’m not mistaken I think he has a few teeth in there too.

After brunch we headed over to her mothers house to open gifts and have lunch with her grandparents. It was ok for the most part. There really isn’t anything to do there and it gets boring easy. We normally do things at her grandmother’s house, down the street, but she was sick of cooking for people so we had it all at her moms. Again it is nice catching up with, and seeing everyone. This year we did it a little different then years past, and didn’t stay the night. We took off about 3:30 pm and headed back home.

The rest of the night was uneventful. The next morning we woke up and made some breakfast and felt weird because we weren’t with anyone’s family for the first time….ever. We were going to my parents house at 1 pm and meeting up with my brother, his fiance, and their 3 month old baby. My mother cooked up a turkey and we had a fairly quick lunch. We would have stayed a bit longer to watch a football game but it wasn’t on TV. We just live up the street so we went home and put all our stuff away. Later that evening my older brother and parents came over to our place. He hadn’t seen our new house yet so he was able to get the full tour.

As for an update, since we had Monday off my wife and I took that opportunity to get work done. My dad and brother came over and we leveled and cut my fence to height. The only thing left to do with that is paint it come spring time. Ore giant hole in the wall made great progress as well. We decided it was good enough to paint finally. While we were at it we taped the whole kitchen and painted the whole thing. All that is left to do is paint the dining room side and install the lights. Eventually the contractor will have to come back to finish the caulking and secure the counter top, but for now it will work fine. We may get some trim for the edges but we aren’t sure yet. I hope to install the lights tonight if I’m feeling up to the task. I know my wife would like that. I will also touch up any spots of paint if need be.

I hope you all had a great weekend and spent time with your families and loved ones. I’m glad to see you back, and I’ll see you again tomorrow! 😀 😀

Holiday Weekend

Hey Everyone!

We made it to the weekend. It is amazing how slow a week before a holiday can seem.

We just got done with our Christmas lunch about 20 minutes ago. We had a local BBQ company cater it. It consisted of items brought and made by other employees as well. The main portions were pulled pork and cheese ziti. It always ends up being an extended lunch and is very laid back. There was an ugly sweater contest at the end, I didn’t participate this year, but it was pretty funny to see what some people are wearing.

This weekend we are heading out and visiting family, then coming home and continuing the visiting. I thankfully have Monday off as a holiday. There will again be a great amount of food everywhere that we go. It is always a good time visiting relatives. The traveling kind of sucks but it is usually worth it in the end.

Our kitchen renovation needs some final touches before it can be painted but it should be happening next week. Once it gets painted I’ll install the lights and hopefully we are about done. We only need the contractor to come back to install trim and attach the counter top permanently.

I don’t really have much today so I won’t bore you any longer. I just want to wish you all a safe and merry holiday season. I’ll be back on the 27th with highlights of my weekend. Thanks for being here! 😀 😀

And We Are Back!

Hey Everyone!

I hope you all had a great holiday weekend, if you celebrate Thanksgiving. If you don’t, I still hope you had a great regular weekend!

Lets see, my last post was Wednesday. That seems like a very long time. I had a ton of things going on this weekend and that will continue through the next couple weeks. First things first, We went to my wife’s grandparent’s house Thursday to celebrate Thanksgiving. Her uncles came in from out of town and we had a very nice time there.

Friday we made our way home. My dad and brother came over to our new house and we started digging post holes for the fence we needed to put up around the yard for my dog. The weather was not in our favor this whole weekend. It was mid 30s and raining at some points in time. In total we got all 22 holes dug that day. My wife was inside the house painting a few of the bedrooms.

Saturday and Sunday were the big work days. Again, my dad and brother helped me with the fence. We were able to get everything completely done except for the gate. My brother and I will be building that this Wednesday. (Side note I won’t be here that day to post) So the whole yard at this point in time is finished. There is only one spot where the fence goes that isn’t done. Meanwhile my mother and my brother’s fiance came over to help with the painting of the bedrooms. This made that whole process much faster. We went with four different shades of gray.

As of right now we still have to paint the hallway and put trim around all the floors in the bedrooms. After that, that area will be finished and ready to be furnished. Wednesday my brother and I will help the Home Depot delivery men move and install kitchen appliances, as well as build the fence, like I stated earlier. That will be a big day, with lots of moving and lifting. My wife would like to move us in this weekend but I can’t see that happening yet, since our internet won’t be connected until the 6th and we have one more huge project going on.  On the 11th, a Sunday, we are having a contractor come in, who is a friend of my wife’s mother, and knock out a 6 foot section of our kitchen wall. This will ten get a counter top and become a breakfast nook. It will be busy, dusty, dirty, and hectic. I’m a little unsure about it because it is the old exterior wall and its sheet rock in front of a brick wall. We are having an “I” beam installed to hold the weight of the rest of the house, and that part scares me. Once this is all done I will be more than willing to get moved in haha.

I also have to send in this application for a homestead exemption for a $250 tax deduction. It just lets the city know that we will only be using our house as a residence and nothing more. But to shorten this whole post, we have to paint a bit, fence a bit, move some stuff, and make a big hole. I hope everything goes according to plan, and I will have my fingers crossed that whole time. Again I won’t be able to post this Wednesday, and maybe not next Tuesday but that I won’t know until that day.

I hope you have enjoyed me spilling my worries and guts out in this post. It really helps to vent a bit, as well as lay everything out in different mediums. (in my head, online, on paper, etc..) I hope you made the best of your weekend, I know I did. I hope to see you back here tomorrow! 😀 😀

Keeping Active

Hey All!

Last night I brought my parents over to see our new house. I think they really like it. I talked to them about some of the things I would like to get done and they seem to be on board with helping out where and when they can. My brother got a hold of me today and said that he was free all day and that if we needed anything moved in during the day that he could do it. I let him know that he could move somethings into the garage if he was inclined to do so.

We got an estimate for a fence to be installed and it is much higher than I thought it would be and I’m not sure why. It is a small yard, and we wanted the remaining 3 sides done and a couple gates and they want $3500.00. There is no way in hell I’m paying to have that done. The supplies alone should only cost $500. That is called trying to take advantage of someone and I’m not a fan. We are now stuck with the option to wait and find a temporary fix, bite the bullet and do it (which I won’t), or buy the parts and do it ourselves. The only problem with doing it ourselves is that the weather up north here is getting worse by the day. We currently have snow on the ground and pretty cold days. We are working in a time frame, because the ground isn’t frozen yet so we could get this done if we hurry up. I don’t know, I’m very lost at this point on what I should do.

If we can make a decision by tonight, and find out that we aren’t spending a butt load of money then I want to go out to Lowes and buy other supplies. I have a couple spots of drywall to touch up and we need things for this winter like shovels, salt, and a nice garbage can. I also need a few GFCI outlets for a few non grounded outlets in the house. I may also need a few light bulbs. My wife will later want some paint. She wants to have the kitchen, 3 bed rooms, and the hallway painted before we move in fully. That makes sense to me.

I’ll be sure to keep you all up to date on the progress. Until tomorrow! 😀 😀
