Bit of Everything!

Hey Everyone!

Back on track a little bit today. Things are a bit more ‘normal’ you could say.

I got to get my hands a bit dirty today with some of our hardware in the server room. We are making room for a new setup to allow a mirrored set of servers running virtual servers. We are also making room for a new cloud backup, and a high availability array, to store over 9 terabytes of data. That was sort of fun and scary all at once. We were doing all that in a live environment. If anything was to get unplugged it would could have taken down a server that was currently in use, and mess some stuff up.

We had some left over cookout food from yesterday. That made for a nice lunch again today. I have also been binge watching Dr. Who season 5-11 which is only on Netflix in Europe, I believe. I have a new web browser that I am using. It is called Opera and it has a built in VPN or virtual private network, which makes it near impossible to trace back your location. Since I have mine on Netflix thinks I’m currently in Sweden. Its really cool actually.

I have a Masonic practice scheduled for tonight at 7 pm. We are going to cover the 2nd degree a bit since next week we have to preform one on our newest member. We shouldn’t be too long tonight since we should have most of it down pretty well.

That is all that is going on today! I hope you all have a great Wednesday and I’ll see you again tomorrow! 😀 😀

Evil Genius (2018)

Ok to start this one off I have to tell you this. This is true. This whole thing is based a couple hours from where I grew up. It is near where I went to college. I worked in this city for years while living there. It is absolutely insane that this occurred here. That being said they made a very good Netflix series out of it.

Title: Evil Genius: The True Story of America’s Most Diabolical Bank Heist

Director: Trey Borzillieri & Barbara Schroeder

Genre: Documentary, Crime

Rating: TV-MA

OK Lets jump in to this Netflix Special! This is a bit different for a few reasons. One of which was mentioned before. Another in that I’m going to rate the series as a whole, not the individual episodes. Lastly this is a TV Mini-Series, comprised of four episodes. Each episode is right around 48 minutes, making this whole series about 192 mins (3hr 20min) Trust me is isn’t boring. It has a TV-MA rating for good reason. The things discused and shown are, at times horrific. This is, as the title notes, the most diabolical bank heist that we have seen in America.

The story line is interesting. In 2003, in the city of Erie, Pennsylvania a man was seen robbing a bank with a bomb collar around his neck. He was following directions written on sheets of paper, like a scavenger hunt. This scavenger hunt would lead him to rob the bank, as well as find the keys to unlock the collar before it detonated. People in Hollywood can’t write this stuff! It is a truly interesting and disturbing series. Brian Wells, was the man with the collar bomb/hostage. He was a pizza delivery man, who delivered pizzas to a bizarre location, which set off the series of events that lead to his ultimate death.

The series covers all of the angles of the case from the perspective and mouths of the supects involved. You will see the perspective of the FBI agents, State Police, ATF, and local police and coroners. You will even see statements from the families. There is live video interviews with the people involved in the crime itself, all the way down to testimony from people in prison, and hookers that may play a bigger role than you think. The questions raised throughout are mind boggling. Who was involved, who wasn’t, who knew what? This series does have a very unexpected couple of twists towards the end.

I was very invested, because of how close it was to home. But don’t think I’m just hyping this up. At the time and through out the trials, this was national news. Nothing like this has ever happened before in this country. You may even remember this being on the news yourself.

The main narrator, Trey Borzillieri is also the main person contacting people, and conducting some interviews throughout the series. You won’t believe how deep he goes to uncover things that were never known before. He and his entire crew, did an outstanding job with this series. As much as I wished this never happened, you are left wanting more. You want more information, you want more answers, but the catch is that some of the details are, and will forever be, unknown…

In summary, this is the story of the Pizza Bomber Bank Heist. Anything that is known to this case in it’s entirety is brought up at some point in this documentary. I highly recommend watching this amazing series, as following the twists and turns of an Evil Genius!

That all being said I would personally give this series a 9.5/10

Christmas #1!

Hey Everyone!

Welcome back on this fine Monday. Lets see, I’ll fill you in on this weekend in this post. Friday was very normal and not much was going on. Saturday we woke up and my wife wanted to get some last minute Christmas shopping done. We headed about a half an hour away and hit up the T.J. Maxx. We brought Everett, like we normally do, and he was pretty fussy the whole time.  I ended up carrying him so that my wife could focus on getting what she came for. He is getting heavy enough now that he really hurts your back. We were also having a guy come buy our pellet stove finally! He was supposed to come at 3-3:30 Saturday and he called me while we were still out shopping, saying he was at our house! We were about 25 minutes away and definitely not home. I was able to tell him that I would get a hold of my dad and/or brother to meet him. By the time I got home he was gone and my dad handed me the money. That was the easiest thing I had to do all weekend haha.  So here is your typical ‘money shot’ after the sale haha.

You may remember me talking about a game called Ingress. It is a mobile augmented reality game. If you don’t play it, you should. You should also be sure to join the blue team (Resistance). 😉 Anyway, every so often a group of us get together, hangout, and most times, play the game in a group. We also stop and have lunch or dinner.  We met up this summer and played for a while and had some awesome pizza. It being a terrible winter night, we all just met up for some food at a bar and caught up with each other on Saturday. We had the typical 7 people there, even though we were missing a few others due to sickness and car trouble. I’m sure they will see us at the next one. If you are thinking about trying it out just know that it is a huge game, played worldwide, and addicting as all get out. You can hook up with local players all over and join groups on things like Facebook, Google Hangouts, and Zello. Dinner was actually really dang good. I built my own blue cheese burger, while others got home made prime rib, and pizza. All of which got great reviews.

Sunday my wife’s dad and family came into town to celebrate Christmas with us. We are trying to start the trend of not really traveling on Christmas since we always travel to see them every.single.time. This year is working well so far, they came this weekend. Next weekend will be the rest of her family and possibly mine. We are probably going to my parents late Christmas day just because my brothers and I went in on gifts for my parents and it wouldn’t make since to not all be there. Back to yesterday though. They brought a nice spaghetti casserole, and we made salad and bread sticks. Nothing fancy but here is our little table spread.

Afterwards the boys played a bit and we opened gifts that we got for each other. Here is my brother in-law Remi playing with his dump truck.

Next we have Everett and his Grandpa Fred, hangin out on the couch. Look at those happy faces.

This one is just a group shot of everyone, except me that is, while opening gifts.

Here we have Everett with a bow on his head looking at his farm puzzle. He really likes chewing on those haha.

Everett and Remi are both playing with Remi’s puzzle in this one. I love seeing him sitting up and interacting with other kids.

We have two shots of him opening his big gift from his grandma and grandpa. He got a little sit on train with fun little buttons and lights on the sides. He can have it for a while and grow in to the rest of it.

Seriously how stinkin cute!

After that they headed home, they live about an hour and a half away. With it getting dark so early it is hard to stay very long anywhere. Once they left we gave Everett some of the spaghetti casserole.

He isn’t quite sure what to do or think about it all, and he is slow to bring real food to his mouth. We are trying to use a technique we learned from my cousins this summer called ‘Baby Led Weaning’ It is an approach to introduce solid food, to encourage the baby to self-feed. It is not done with any pureed food on a spoon. It isn’t to wean them off of milk but rather on to solids. Everett is now sitting with us and ‘attempting’ to eat what we eat. He can eat at his own pace, as well as as much or as little as he wants. He isn’t tied to only a few types and kinds of food. He is still getting breast milk and he is under very careful supervision. It seems to be going well. 😀 It is different from what people are used to and it freaks people out but it just fine for babies. I was freaked out at first, but not too much anymore. If you would like to read about it check this link out. Mama Natural.

That was about the end of our night. Oh, I am also testing streaming services to find what will work for us. I started my 7 day trial of Sling TV and can tell you now it isn’t what I want. I will be going to Hulu Live TV next weekend and think I will like it much more. I will also try to plug the coaxial cable right into my TV and pick up local channels. I’ll try to remember to let you know how it all goes.

I’ll see you all again tomorrow! 😀 😀

Coffee Time!

Hey Everyone!

Well here we are on a Friday morning. I just finished my first cup of coffee and also remembered to start this post! Seems rare. 😀

Well first as a correction to my post yesterday it was the FCC vote not the congress vote, not yet. There is still time to fight for Net Neutrality. But that isn’t what this post is about, just a side note.

Lets see, it is bitter cold here coming in at 7 degrees F, yes just 7 lol. It is one of those mornings where it seems to be too cold to snow. The roads are slick and it was slow going to daycare and work this morning.

In Netflix fun I believe that ‘The Ranch’ is back for another season. My wife and I fell for that show after just giving it a chance. It seemed like a dumb little spin off,  because Ashton Kutcher was bored and has money. It turned into more for us and has become a show that we want more of. I am also super stoked that ‘Black Mirror’ will be back on the 29th I believe.

Yesterday at work, I was making moves and posting up. I like proving my worth and knowing that I am making an impact. Most days people know I am here and know that I help, but there are some days where people really see you as someone important. Yesterday turned out to be one of those days. Another person in out department has been working on something that is over his head and taking too long, like months. I got a hold of the project and had it fixed in under 30 minutes. Now I don’t like being the guy to swoop in and take a project, so I waited until it was given to me. I am still the low man on the totem pole and don’t want to step on any toes. It is a delicate balance in a small department. But it was nice to b recognized for furthering a much bigger project and knowing that I played a huge part in moving it forward.

I guess that is what we can talk about today. Have you ever felt that way? Have you had some time to step into the spotlight and make a visible impact, whether at work, or some other area of your life? Have you ever felt like you have to wait for the right moment to do something? How did that go for you? Success? Let me know down below!

I hope you all have a great weekend and I’ll see you here again on Monday! 😀 : D

This & That

Hey Everyone!

I woke up with a very nice sore throat today, that is less than ideal. :/ I’ll be trying my best to not get sick, or get anyone in my house sick as well. That will be tough.

Tonight will be the last stated Masonic meeting of the calendar year. They are serving ham loaf, which sounds awful but is really good haha. We are electing officers tonight for the next Masonic year. I am debating on whether or not I’ll be going, since I don’t feel so great. I won’t be in an elected position, but will will be moving from one chair to another.

I have started working with Amazon’s Mechanical Turk program. I am skeptical and don’t think it will be what I am looking for but who knows, I’ll give it a shot. It seems like to start it is just really simple tasks for a single penny. If that is the case I can make like under $100 a month, which won’t really be worth it. If I can get some better tasks after I get started maybe it will be better.

I have also started watching American Horror Story on Netflix. It is one of those shows that will take a while to watch. You really have to be invested. It is also still currently being made so I won’t have every season available on Netflix. When it comes down to it will be able to watch close to all of the seasons then have to wait for the next ones to hopefully be put on. Oh, and try not to forget what has happened haha. The best news coming from Netflix is that the next season of Black Mirror will be released on the 29th of this month! Yes, yes, yes! I cannot wait to watch them all. If you haven’t seen it yet go watch it. One of my favorites. 😀

That is about it for me on this boring Wednesday. I hope to see you all again tomorrow! 😀 😀

Daily Post!

Hey Everyone!

What can I say, I still hate printers. The issue is still not resolved and I have been on the phone twice today with a Schwab rep.  We have made progress, but I can’t help but feel like printers should work as well as computers. Most everything now a days ca be easily set up and swapped, when will printers be the same? Honestly I ca’t wait for the day where we will  no longer need them. That will surely happen before they become user friendly. I mean think about i, what do you really need to print? Other than the occasional physical flyer, most things can be done simpler another way. I hope they do away with them soon! 😀

This will not be a printer post though I just wanted that out there. My wife and I just started watching ” It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” which is great, until we got the news that in December it will be taken off of Netflix. RIP haha.

We have had our first through third frost already. I guess it was bound to happen. Good news is I think I am done mowing my grass for the year! 😀 I have yet to find anyone to purchase my pellet stove, and will need my brother to come over and help me move it to the back of the garage, so my wife can park in there. My goal was to have the walls up and the stove sold before the first snow. That is no longer the case at all. I have no idea why there has been no interest in my stove, I haven’t even received a low ball offer, thats insanely rare. I have it on, craigslist, five different Facebook garage sale pages, and posted here at work. Nothing, not even a whisper.

Again we have no plans for this weekend. We will see what lies ahead. I really hope nothing comes up and that we can just stay in. I like when the weather starts to get cool and you can coffee up and stay on the couch nice and warm. On another note I”m not sure when my dad will have more parts for the cabin. We have enough done that it can snow and be fine, but we still have some insulating to do.

That is all for today. I hope you all have a great Thursday, and I’ll try to remember Coffee Talk, bright and early tomorrow! 😀 😀

Game 5, Binging & Halloween!

Hey Everyone!

I would like to report that I had a lazy and uneventful weekend! For me, this is a success haha. It was cold, rainy, blah and I made the most by staying inside, binging Stranger Things 2, and eating food that I shouldn’t. Side note, I have been slipping, well falling flat on my face, with my diet. Yikes! I have to try super hard to get back in the right mindset.

I stayed in, only leaving to get groceries, and take out the trash haha. I watched Ohio State beat Penn State in college football. That was a close back and fourth game jeez! I also watched three World Series baseball games. I don’t follow baseball very well, but when you have a weekend like this and the biggest series of the season it is easy to fall back in love with the sport. The Dodgers and Astros are making this one for the record books. Last night’s game five was a spectical to behold.  If you are interested here is the whole game, condensed into 28 minutes: Right………HERE!

We carved pumpkins! How could I forget that? Here is Everett’s first look at a pumpkin. Ever.

If that doesn’t crack you up you have no soul! He warmed up to it pretty nicely though.

Once we were done, there was nothing left but to put them on the porch and light them up!

The one I made on the right is a bit weird haha. I cut the top out and quickly realized there was no way in hell I was getting my hand in there. So I made sure I cut a mouth big enough to get the candle in haha.

Tomorrow night we will be passing out candy to all the youngsters. I’ll try to get a head count for your benefit and mine for future years.

That is all for me today I hope you all had a great weekend! 😀 😀

Coffee Talk!

Hey Everyone!

Here again early Friday morning, for another coffee talk. I must quickly say that I almost forgot, since the new season of Stranger things is out on Netflix! Eeeekkk 😀 😀

Lets talk Halloween! This is the weekend before the holiday, and we have very little plans, since we have all been a bit ill. We were invited to a family friendly party but we cannot go.

Our house is decked out with lights, cobwebs, witches brooms and the rest. We have our candy ready, about 400 pieces, and all we need now are tick or treaters. This is our first Halloween in the new house and we are excited to build up a relationship with the neighborhood a bit.

What are your Halloween traditions? Do you go get candy? Do you stay home or go out? Heck do you do anything?!? Some people may not like this holiday, if so let me know!

I’m a fan of this holiday and I like its dark nature haha.

Lets talk!

Coffee Talk!

Hey Everyone!

Welcome back to coffee talk. I remembered to do this again haha. I was sitting here sipping my coffee and it hit me that it was also Friday! So while you all wake up, check your blogs, and sip your coffee or tea we can talk.

I have been trying to figure out what this segment should be, and I think I have somewhat figured it out. I’d like to put myself in the situation that I was at a coffee shop with a friend. From there what would we potentially talk about?

Today I’m thinking Netflix. While we have our coffee in front of us, lets talk about our favorite shows. I am currently watching Cleverman, it is Australian based, and it pretty weird. It isn’t scary weird just a bit weird. It is about “Hairy People” and “Normal People” As if that wasn’t enough, the main character is the Cleverman, he can access the past and future. I have been working my way through the 14 seasons of NCIS as well, that is a loooooong haul! Some of my favorites have been Stranger Things, Atypical, Black Mirror, Dark Matter, The Office, gah there are so many!

What have you all been watching? Do you even watch Netflix? Maybe you have Hulu, or Fire TV through Amazon, maybe? Maybe? haha. Let me know!

My wife and I are shooting a wedding tomorrow so we will be getting the cameras and drone out today after work! Very Excited!

Hit me up with some comments, and I’ll be back Monday with a weekend update. 😀 😀

What A Fun Weekend!

Hey Everyone!

This weekend was a blast. I mean nothing crazy happened, but it was an all around good time. It really started on Saturday. My wife left in the morning to get her hair done for the first time since having the baby. It was something she really wanted to get done, so I’m glad I was able to watch Everett while she did that.

Once she got home, I packed my stuff and headed to camp. Before I left I stopped at a place that over looks most of my whole city. I had a nice panorama, but it looked weird when I threw it on here.

Once I got to camp I helped my brother and dad, who got there before me. We brought wood and supplies to the site. Here are the 4″ pieces that we used to cover the cracks of the other boards.

When we were on the last board, we had to notch it. This was to ensure that it would fit around a stud. I was notching it out with a hand saw when it jumped up off the board and sliced my thumb. It was pretty bad but I got it wrapped up quickly.

It is a bit hard to do most things with your thumb covered like this haha. I had a glove over it so I would not get dirt and stuff in it. Plus, I was staying the night so I was going to be there a long time.

Anyway, with that set back out of the way we were able to get the pieces up!

Since we had more boards from the last time, we started work on one of the ends. It gets the most weather so we wanted to cover it up a bit. We are going to, possibly slat shingle the peaks, and cover the cracks with more 4′” boards like the front.

A couple of my brother’s friends showed up as well as my older brother. They hung around most of the day. But after a while I was getting hungry for that juicy steak I told you all I would get. I threw it down on our grill over some hot coals and let it ride.

While that was cooking up nicely, my brother’s friend Ben made me a drink. Stick with me as I explain what’s in it. He mixed bourbon and blueberry preserves in an empty water bottle. Once it was shaken together he poured it through a strainer and into my cup. Similarly, he mixed lemonade and club soda and poured that in too. To finish it off he squeezed a lemon in there and here is what we have!

It was really dang good. I had a couple of those and enjoyed my steak.

Once everyone left I hung out by the fire until it got dark. I threw a few more logs on because I wanted coals for breakfast.I decided to just roll my sleeping bag out in the cabin and stay there for the night. It looked creepy but it was better than a tent!

With my head lamp on I started into my new book! I only got a few chapters in before I turned in for the night.

I’m pretty glad I slept in the cabin because it rained pretty hard that night. Which did ruin my breakfast plans. I had no coals and with the clouds over head it stayed dark longer than I had hoped. When I woke up I packed my things and just headed home. You can see below what it was like on my way out.

I stopped off to get pop tarts for breakfast and brought them home for my wife. It is a craving she has somewhat often so I figured it was a good choice. We ran around Sunday and got groceries, as well as cleaned up around the house. My mother in-law came down and wanted to spend some time with Everett. That gave me some time to play a few video games. I checked the mail later and was pleased to find two pieces of mail from real people haha. First a card from my great aunt Arlene. It was a “First Halloween” card fro our son.

The second was a nice thank you from my brother and his wife.

We closed out the weekend with some Netflix and ice cream. Sounds good huh?

That is all for me. It was a fun weekend and I’m glad I got some time in the woods! I’ll be back tomorrow, see you then! 😀 😀
