Oh Bother!

Hey Everyone!

Lets jump right into my darn electrical issue. The retired electrician came to my house before my meeting last night and looked at everything and listened to what I had already done. We tested a few things I still hadn’t done and still had.no.luck…. :/

That leaves me in a not so great position. He was baffled and hadn’t seen anything like it. I put a lot of weight on that statement because this was his chosen career for the majority of his life and even he doesn’t know what they did in my house.

I have found a way to bypass the knob and tube and have both lights operate on one switch. That will mean that the fan/light combo would have to be manually turned off while we want just the dining room table light on. I think I’m going to tape the new wires to the old and pull the run through the ceiling to the other fixture. From that point I can connect them all back up and should be good. I know it is all easier said than done, but to me it is a better option than taking my ceiling down.

We do have three outlets up stairs that are ungrounded, ran off of knob and tube wiring as well. I don’t think I can pull those through and fix them but I may try. If not I may have to just cut them off and fill the holes and lose three outlets. I don’t want to lose those outlets but I might have no other choice. So, that is where we are at…not the greatest.

Our Masonic meeting went off without a hitch last night and we successfully initiated our new brother to the first degree of Free Masonry. WE got home about 9:30pm and I passed right out.

That is all for me today, I hope to see you back again tomorrow! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Bits of Everything!

Hey Everyone!

This will have to be another quick post. Today for lunch we met in the cafeteria and ate with one of the summer help kids that worked within our department. We had a couple departments there and the new VP. It was nice to just chat with everyone a little bit because we don’t always see each other.

It is pouring down rain here today. It was pouring down rain last nigh as well. I’m sure my yard is flooded lol, and I hope it hasn’t come into the house. Fingers crossed! We haven’t had a ‘flood’ in a while so I hope we are ok. It has been a nice reminder that the summer is, sadly, ending soon. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Everett has a haircut scheduled for tonight around 6pm. This will be his 4th cut in less than two years. His hair grows pretty darn fast.

I was also informed that tonight we have a Masonic practice. I found out about it this morning. It got lost in the long month. It is usually the 4th Wednesday in the month and general the next Wednesday is our meeting at the beginning of the next month. Months like this one have five Wednesdays and screw everything up haha. They are going to motion at the next meeting to just have it be the last Wednesday of each month. That will be much better.

Lastly today is my pay day! Woo! I was finally able to put a couple bucks into each of my savings accounts this time.ย  XD I’m hoping to keep saving until I hit my own set buffer amount and keep going. That way I can feel safe in getting a few things done and know that I didn’t just drain the whole account.

That is it for me today. I hope you have a less rainy Wednesday than me, and I hope to see you back again tomorrow! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

On Boarding!

Hey Everyone!

Happy Tuesday! To be very honest even after I posted yesterday I still thought it was Tuesday yesterday haha. That’s how screwed up I was. ๐Ÿ˜€

Work has been very boring today. I have a meeting to discuss our on boarding process at 1pm. I was selected to be on a committee that will revamp our procedure on that topic. If you aren’t sure what on boarding is, it is the process of bringing in new employees and how you ensure that they get what they need, and feel welcome and comfortable with their job. there is way more to it but that is the gist. We are hearing a webinar today for more information and I think after work on the 21st we may be meeting at a bar to discuss more ideas.

Right now our company doesn’t do too much other than a welcome sheet, and a lack luster tour of the building. We are looking to be mentors and walk with them for the first three months. We want to offer surveys of how they are doing, what they expected vs what they have experienced, and assign them a buddy in a way in their department. This all on top of the welcome sheets and a real detailed tour of the company as a whole. Someday we will write it in to the handbook as ‘law’ for a lack of a better word at the moment.

I would love to know, if it applies, if you have dealt with an on boarding process, from either side. Have you ever been through an on boarding process? How was it? Have you been on the administration side? What techniques have you implemented?

Let me know in the comments below! ๐Ÿ˜€

I’ll be back again tomorrow, and hope to see you then! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

How Is Your Thursday?

Hey Everyone!

My Thursday is moving along at a very average pace. Not sure how I feel about that. :/

Last night was a stated Masonic meeting night for me. That always involves wearing a suit and tie, and being gone most of the evening. My wife isn’t super fond of that, but generally it is only one night a month. Last night warm, which makes for an uncomfortable meeting. We had a nice dinner of spaghetti and meatballs with a nice salad bar. For desert we had ice cream and cupcakes. One of our members is the Sheriff and he had a presentation about drugs in our area and how we got to this point. It was pretty interesting. I think it is about time for him to retire though. His views and knowledge on certain things are dated, and some of the things that hang him up, are things that people my age know as common knowledge. I think it would be best to get some one in that position that is with the times a bit more. For the sake of productivity only. I believe that this guy has done a fine job for years in our area. Overall it was a great night for fellowship.

It is rainy and supposed to storm here within the next couple hours, so nothing will be accomplished tonight haha. My wife and I are working on things to gift each other for our upcoming anniversary and mother/father’s day. We know that a physical gift isn’t necessary, but we like taking the time to find something that each of us needs. Most of the time it is something that the other person would have just gotten themselves so we aren’t really out there with our choices. I have been putting together a simple list of things I could use, like a table saw or plunge router for out in the garage. Looking another way I also suggested a couple different types of Ukuleles I’ve had my eye on. Like I’ve said in another post, our May is packed with stuff, anniversaries, holidays, birthdays, and a vacation. that will just result in more pictures for my posts! haha

I have a bit more work to do to finish painting the fence. I would like to have it finished before Everett’s party. It will be a challenge because I have softball starting up this weekend, and I have to fight with the weather and paint sprayer to get it done. My goal is to have it done and be able to power wash the deck before people come over. Who knows! Once that project is complete I would like to make a scrap wood container on wheels. I want to model it from April Wilkerson’s ‘Lumber Rack’ which can be found: Here! I really love her videos, and she makes things people would actually want haha.

Anyway! that is all for me today. Not much going on. I’ll be back again tomorrow for what is hopefully a Friday morning “Coffee Talk” Fingers crossed! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Holy Moly!

Hey Everyone!

Holy Crap!

I absolutely meant to have a post out yesterday, but I got hammered with stuff to do. Like really hammered. We have our annual profit sharing meeting today at 10:15am, so it only makes sense that all of the presenters haven’t finished their presentation… I was running back and fourth from our main building to our recreation hall, helping four different people with different aspects of their presentation. lol. One guy wasn’t done with his PowerPoint. One guy couldn’t get his videos to play. Another guy was using the wrong slide format. The President of the company didn’t know how to get his .gif the right way and wanted the screen to be bigger haha. It was a mess. So needless to say I was too busy to do anything during or after lunch.

In the morning while all was well, I was able to automate our list of PCs in the building a bit. I set up macros to retire old PCs with a click of a button. I also set up a button that brings up a form to add a PC to the active list, and then organized the workbook to look nicer. That part was fun.

Heck even this morning I have been hit with a curve ball! I walked into the building and was immediately called by one of the guys in accounting. His PC wouldn’t boot up and would flash a red LED. Doh! That means it was seeing an error on his mother board. This could be nothing, or it could be awful haha. Thankfully with a little tweak here and there I got it working again but that was scary for a Friday morning.

So I’m hoping the rest of my day just breezes by once we have our meeting. Most people just leave work after since they won’t get much done anyway. So it should be fairly quiet. Fingers crossed.

We will be traveling, yet again this weekend to go spend the weekend with my wife’s dad and his family. He is only 50 something, but has been diagnosed with Alzheimers :/ shitty I know. So he has been slowly losing it since I’ve known him. It has been getting worse by the day and progressing faster now, so we want to be sure to spend some time with him, as we don’t normally get to. Everett, and possibly myself, will get our hair cut by his wife. We both desperately need a trim. there son is only 2 or so years old so he will be fun to chase around as well. It’ll be a good weekend. Then it will be back to painting that fence of mine!

That is all for me this morning. I hope you all have had a less stressful couple days than I have! I’ll see you all again Monday (The last day in April) ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Exciting News & Eagles!

Hey Everyone!

I had a late night, for myself. I had my typical Masonic meeting, that went fast, and for good reason. We sped through what we needed to get done, so that we could enjoy the evening’s program. My cousin, Mike, got a state game warden to come give a presentation on the Bald Eagle, the the rehabilitation in our area.ย  It was really informative and fun to listen to. Here is a link to the live feed of a nest cam in PA. As I am watching there is an Eagle in there right now, it is really neat. GO HERE!

After the presentation, we had brownies and ice cream for desert. I was sitting with my cousin and the game warden and we had some good conversation. By the time I got home it was past 10pm, so Everett was asleep, and my wife was about the same haha. She had mentioned that she had to talk to me about something , but it had gotten too late.

This morning she asked if I was ready to talk a bit about it. I said I was, and she said that her grandfather called her and said that he was finding a way to build a house for us! I still want to confirm everything before I get too excited and nervous, but that is a very different story than when we talked to him last weekend. He wants us to get a firm estimate on the house we would want and the layout. She asked if he was aware that we would only be able to buy it from him when our house sold, and he seemed to be ok with that. So fingers crossed this may work out well. We will have to get a price and layout to him as soon as we can to get things rolling. The moment we actually break ground I will let my boss know that we will be moving, around a certain date, estimated completion kind of thing. From there I will scout for a job and hopefully they will allow me to start when the house is complete. Ifย  they won’t and I still want that job I’ll let him know and have to put in my 2 weeks notice. It may be sooner and it may be later but that will play out. That is the scary part for me is leaving my job that I like, and the people somewhat high and dry. I’m not sure they would replace me until I left which would be terrible timing because our other co-worker is retiring.

I’ll keep you posted when I can. Work has been busy again today. I set up two full computers for people and deployed one of them. The other will go out tomorrow. Our conference room upgrade is still going smoothly as well. I was told to get a list of projects I was involved with this last year, for my annual review. I normally pass with flying colors and hope to again. If I do stay for some reason, this will help determine what I get in a profit sharing check and whether or not I get any raises. I really should track these as I do them haha. I’m sure it will be fine.

That is all for me today, I’ll try to see you bright and early for a “Coffee Talk!” See ya! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

What A Weekend!

Hey Everyone!

This weekend was a fun one for me. I didn’t just sit at home the whole time and wish the weather was better.

We were trying to dodge the Flu though, and I think my wife lost that battle. I for one, am still doing fine for the most part. I have a stuffy head, but she is feeling all the aches and pains. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

We can start off of Saturday! I woke up bright and early and got ready, like normal, because….I had a Masonic seminar most of the day. It was about an hour and a half away and my cousin and one other guy were going with. We left our city at about 7am and teh meeting started at 9am. I corresponded with my wife’s grandpa, so I could drop offย  our documents for taxes. Two birds. One stone. ๐Ÿ˜‰ We arrived a bit early, like you should, and signed in. We continued down aย  line of tables and got our folder with information for the day and then the good stuff. Next came the doughnuts and coffee! I had too many doughnuts and that is all I’ll say, but they were good.

The meeting was for people looking to move through the ranks in lodge. It covered everything, in basic form, you would need to run a lodge as a Worshipful Master for a whole year. We were able to asks questions in an open format and have a couple good conversations. There were mentors and District Deputy Grand Masters there from all over the state. So, lots of knowledge there for the picking! These type of events are fun, because you can really get a sense of how big the organization is and how big of an impact they make on the community. For lunch we had some homemade sloppy Joe’s, egg salad sandwiches, veggies, soup, and apple pie. Afterwards we had a presentation of organ donation and blood donations. As a Mason, signed up for the blood club, you are able to ensure that if you ever need blood that we will get it. This is of course after insurance pays for what they can. It also covers your immediate family, so that is very nice to be a part of. We finished up our little lecture and were out of there around 1:30pm. We waited around a bit and my wife’s mom brought over some frozen goods we should have had the weekend we didn’t go back. I guess you can retract my previous statement and say we killed three birds with one stone. ๐Ÿ˜€

Sunday we wanted to get out a little bit since, other than my meeting, we had been cooped up for a while. Everett has gotten over the Flu and we figured some fresh are was much deserved. The weather was somewhat chilly but it felt good to me, with the appropriate attire. So we went for our first walk all winter! We made sure to bundle Everett up as best we could:

6

We were able to sit him up more since he is bigger. He seemed to like being able to see more. I was wondering how much he would remember since developmentally he hadn’t really been on a walk in months. He can now see further and start to understand his surroundings. We also had to stop and take a nice family photo along the way:

1

Everett didn’t seem overly thrilled but I assure you he had a good time. Our dog was with us too but good luck getting her to hold still!

After our walk we watched a movie, which was not particularly good. I would have reviewed it but I am fairly busy at work today. I can tell you it was Spectre, the James Bond flick. I know it is a couple years old, but I can tell you that IMDB.com has it at a 6.8 I would go lower than that. It was very disappointing in my eyes. The story was there but just about everything turned me off from it. Either way it was nice to stop doing everything and watch a movie. The rest of the day my wife edited some pictures, Everett played beside us in the attic, and I was able to get a few games in. Over all it was a good weekend.

Today I am jam packed with things to do. I have to collect a urine sample from our female dog, and get it tested again to make sure her UTI is gone. Then it is off to Everett’s nine month appointment. This is where he will get a ton of shots and be mad at us for a short time haha. By the way….Everett is nine months old, I failed to mention that last Thrusday! Woo!

That is all for me today, I hope you all had a great weekend, and I’ll see you back again tomorrow! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Coffee Talk

Hey Everyone!

This is a little later, but a “Coffee Talk” all the same.

This is there first time I have been at my desk for more than 2 minutes all morning. I’m super glad it is Friday!

Tomorrow we go back to my wife’s home town. We have made our appointment with the lady at the modular home company. We will meet with her and do a walk through as well as explore our other options with them. I was able to talk with my co-worker who also got a home from the same area, although it was 10 years ago. I think the rates are very similar still. He got a 2 story house for around $118,000 and had his own basement done for another $50,000. We had a single story ranch priced with a full basement for around $169,000. It is over our price point I think, for what we want but the rates seem to even out a bit. We will just have to wait and see. We need to not get ahead of ourselves as we still have to speak with her grandparents about the whole thing.

Like I mentioned I have been busy all morning and hope I can have some down time the rest of the day. Fingers crossed haha. Not necessarily “down” time but slower requests.

The depressing part of my day is realizing that my student loan payments come out today. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ It is tough to see $700 disappear in an instant haha. This also reminds me of my Children International sponsor child Abel! My auto payment for that comes out the same day as my student loans. I am still waiting on a response to the food and gift I sent for him and his family. His birthday is January 9th, so I sent his family some traditional food items, and I bought him a soccer ball and some orange Fanta. I guess that is huge over there. They, from what I hear, send pictures when the family comes and gets the items at the local town center. I am patiently waiting to see his face again. ๐Ÿ˜€

That is about it. I hope you all have a great weekend, and I’ll try to do the same. I’ll see you all again Monday with an update on the weekend! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Milestone, Weather, Masons, & Weight!

Hey Everyone!

First Hump Day of the year wooo! Here we are on third day of the new year and, hopefully, feeling good.

I woke up this morning with a bit of a sore throat, which may have something with Everett going back to day care. So not super happy about that, but what are you to do? Oh well! It has gotten better throughout the day so I hope it just goes away haha.

Yesterday I didn’t think I would even post and look at me go! I got two out, surprise haha. I was super swamped at work and still, sort of, am. This is the lull in the eye of the storm in a manner of speaking.

Last night was the first night that we put Everett to bed, with out him coming with us. He is still in our room and in his bassinet but we made the decision to put him upstairs right after his last bottle, and see how it goes. We had the monitor on, and with minimal fussing he went right to sleep. He slept well the rest of the night and I think we have a good thing going with this. I am confident that he can sleep in his own room, but my wife would like to still hold off on that for a bit longer. I’m OK with that decision. So that was a big win for us I think.

This winter weather is hitting our area pretty hard, and right now it is bitter cold. Schools in surrounding areas have been closed due to the low temperatures. In some areas it is reaching -20 F. We make sure to bundle Everett up as best we can, and keep him out of it as much as possible. I however notice that my facial hair freezes up instantly if it is even a tiny bit wet. I can lick my lips and it will freeze right up. I was shoveling the snow off of my sidewalk the other day, wearing big winter gloves, and my fingers were still numb by the end of it. Our water company as issues a warning about pipes freezing. We are supposed to have the water on to at least a drip to prevent it. That last thing we need is busted pipes. I’ll have to get on that when I get home today.

In other news I have our first Masonic meeting of the new year tonight. I am in a new position and have new lines to speak, so I’m a bit nervous. I know I have the lines down, but saying them in your head and out loud to yourself is different then doing it in the meeting haha. It should be OK though, I mean it is the first week after all. I’m not sure what they are serving for dinner but I know it’ll be good.

Speaking of eating, I am back on my regular diet. I gained 13 pounds from eating like a fatty over the span of a month. There really is just no good way to eat well, when you have an overindulging mindset. It is hard the rest of the year to stay healthy but over Christmas and New Years forget it! I’m not mad or even worried about it though because I know I’ll get it back off, but it is crazy to think I just gained that all back haha. I knew I was when my work shirts got a bit tight. Oops! ๐Ÿ˜€

That is all for now, I hope you all have a great rest of the week, I’ll see you tomorrow! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

NY State 3rd Degree!

Hey Everyone!

Last night eight members of our lodge in PA, went to observe 3rd degree work in NY state. We arrived a few minutes early to meet a few people, and introduce ourselves. As we entered the lodge we were greeted with a mural of Kind Solomon’s temple.

c

Once you turned the corner you were greeted with a large dining hall. They had the building funded by one of their old members, and pictured is a tribute to him.

e

The man’s name is Stanley Weeks. They had a bunch of old aprons on the wall. Some of which were from the 1800’s as well as this one from the second lodge ever…in the world!

b

a

Next I took a quick peek into the meeting hall. Their color scheme and set up is different than ours, and that is what makes it fun.

d

The best part is seeing what is similar and what is different. While all of the hardcore things are the same, there are plenty of differences. They had different officers, different setups, different verbiage, and added elements. In NY they act out parts of the degree, which was very different from what we do. It also made the meeting extremely long, time wise. It started at 7:30 pm and we didn’t leave until about 11 pm.

After the meeting it is customary o eat or have snacks and this was no different. I was going to have a little bit of most things and I guess I did. All of these things together make absolutely no sense haha.

f

They aren’t allowed to have alcohol in PA lodges so I had to partake while I could haha. Everything was delicious, and everyone was very nice. I would go back again anytime. It was a full night for sure. We invited them down in a few weeks when we are doing a 3rd degree, I hope a few guys show up.

That is all from me! I’ll be back on Friday, since I’ll be in early tomorrow! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€
