Oh Bother!

Hey Everyone!

Lets jump right into my darn electrical issue. The retired electrician came to my house before my meeting last night and looked at everything and listened to what I had already done. We tested a few things I still hadn’t done and still had.no.luck…. :/

That leaves me in a not so great position. He was baffled and hadn’t seen anything like it. I put a lot of weight on that statement because this was his chosen career for the majority of his life and even he doesn’t know what they did in my house.

I have found a way to bypass the knob and tube and have both lights operate on one switch. That will mean that the fan/light combo would have to be manually turned off while we want just the dining room table light on. I think I’m going to tape the new wires to the old and pull the run through the ceiling to the other fixture. From that point I can connect them all back up and should be good. I know it is all easier said than done, but to me it is a better option than taking my ceiling down.

We do have three outlets up stairs that are ungrounded, ran off of knob and tube wiring as well. I don’t think I can pull those through and fix them but I may try. If not I may have to just cut them off and fill the holes and lose three outlets. I don’t want to lose those outlets but I might have no other choice. So, that is where we are at…not the greatest.

Our Masonic meeting went off without a hitch last night and we successfully initiated our new brother to the first degree of Free Masonry. WE got home about 9:30pm and I passed right out.

That is all for me today, I hope to see you back again tomorrow! 😀 😀

Happenings!

Hey Everyone!

It seems quick, but it is Wednesday already. I’ll take that.

Right after work yesterday I stopped at the post office to pick up my wife’s long awaited birthday gift. It came from Australia and was on back order, but it was worth the wait. She loves it and have been transferring all of her stuff into it. She will be using that bag for a long while.

I have a retired electrician coming over tonight if nothing changes in his schedule. With any luck at all he can quickly get my damn lights working so I can put my 8 seat dining room table back haha.

I did, however, realize that I also have a Masonic meeting tonight. DOH! We took July and August off like we do each year, and tonight it is back on! We are having a degree conferred on a candidate as well. It will be his first degree out of three, his Entered Apprentice Degree. We had two practices over the last two weeks so we should be ready. I hope the electrician is gone before I have to go. 😀

This weekend we have the company outing! I’m looking forward to it, because we haven’t been kayaking at all this summer. We start around 9:30am with that, followed by a catered picnic, corn hole, disc golf, and washer toss. It will be an all day thing and it is the first time that this event has been both men and women as well as spouses. There are over 100 people signed up to come. It should be a great time.

That is all I have for you today! I hope to see you all again tomorrow! 😀 😀

Good Surprise!

Hey Everyone!

Last night I tried working on my lights again, and boy let me tel you it was awful! I tried thinking about what needed connected and where. I tried putting the knob and tube wire that I had to the hot wire from the additional run, and it popped and flashed and I was done. Nope, a whole lot of nope after that. I’m at a loss, as to what to do. I hope to find someone to give me a hand that has a clue about what they are doing. I really don’t want to rip it all out and tear down a wall or my ceiling so I hope I find someone.

Today I got some good news about my current position here at work. I was bumped from a category ‘B’ position to a category ‘A’ position. That starts me off at the lowest rate for that and from there I will get reevaluated at 9 and 18 months from when it starts, to get me to the mid range. From there I can get to the top of my category by merit raise only. If I get to a point where I cap out before I get a new position I believe there is a way to change my job description and open up a new set of ranges.

I just realized today that Monday is Labor Day. I get a nice long weekend! I can use that for sure. I’m not sure about the weather yet, but if it is nice it would be a good idea to work on the cabin. We will probably get together with my family and have a cook out or something. We may just have a quite weekend at home, I’m ok with that too!

That is all for me today! I’ll be back again tomorrow, and after that I’ll see you again Tuesday! 😀 😀

Lighting Weekend & Golf!

Hey Everyone!

I had a heck of a weekend. Friday my wife said she wanted to replace the kitchen ceiling fans and lights. I didn’t want to do any of that since they all worked, and we don’t have the money for any big issues if they arise.

In the process of taking those two lights down she wanted me to replace the light over the sink, and move the fan in the dining room to the other side of the dining room and get a new light there as well. In total it came to four new lights and moving a fifth. It was a long Friday evening, and it carried into Saturday morning.

This is the fan from the dining room moving to it’s new location.

Here is where it came from. More on this spot later.

The two kitchen lights were here.

5

I installed the lights in the kitchen and my wife painted the ceiling.

Saturday morning kept me busy and I had to stop to head out to the golf outing!

The night before my co-worker and I went to the driving range and hit a bucket of balls.

The weather was great Saturday and my team was ready to do a mediocre job haha. 😀 Here is my golf cart mate Jake, he works third shift and is the son of the lady in accounting.

10

My dad is hitting here, and then we had another guy in sales on our scramble team.

11

I decided to run to the sports store in town and get a nice shirt, glove, and pants. Lastly before my dad and I headed out we grabbed a split 6 pack for the day.

12

I got home fully expecting to get the rest of the lights up and going. I put the fan up and the new light up, only to find out that they didn’t turn on… :/ I fiddled with the both of them until I had to stop. It was very frustrating.

That took us straight into Sunday where I worked on them again. I stopped part way though because I ran out of knowledge and patience. I called my dad over and we did end up getting the fan working on the switch. I haven’t put it back up because we still can’t get the new dining room light working. It is the only light, that I know of, that is running on the only knob and tube wire run that we have in the house. I have tried every combination that I can think of and something must be disconnected somewhere. Knob and tube wiring is not up to any code anymore because it is not grounded, so I don’t think any real electrician will wok on it without replacing it. That would mean tearing up my ceiling and wall possibly and I don’t want to or have the money to do that. So I have to find someone willing to help me out and until then my dining room will be a mess.

In other news I got work today that I have an interview for my boss’s job tomorrow at 2pm.  I may not be posting if I am still preparing for that. I’ll be a bit nervous and figuring things out. It would be a huge leap for me and the job description looks scary but I think I could handle it if it came down to it. Wish me luck! If I don’t get this job which is very possible, I hope to have the ability to move into my co-workers job.

That is all for me today, I hope you have a great Monday! I’ll see you tomorrow or Wednesday! 😀 😀

Company & Birthday Surprise

Hey Everyone!

My co-worker is finally back from his trip to Europe, and things may be getting back to normal, as soon as next week!

Yesterday we had a ‘Cost of Living’ meeting. In this meeting we go over what we project the rates to be for the year and they decide whether or not we get an increase to meet those standards. Well we found out that we will all be getting a 1.75% increase to keep up with the predicted trend! That’s a pretty decent increase. That will be more than a few hundred dollars added to our pay yearly.

We also officially welcomed our newly acquired company, J Tech! They were here with some of their highway safety trucks and what not. We also got some sweet shirts and hats for taking them on!

Here is their, pretty cool brand video!

When I got home I noticed that the last piece of my wife’s birthday present had arrived. Instead of make her wait until her birthday, which is when I will be at my reunion, I let her open those gifts last night. 😀 (Don’t mind our non renovated basement)

I bought her a back drop stand, clamps for the back drops, 5 different backdrops, two lights, and a reflector. When we do start work on our basement, this room will be white and outfitted for photography. My wife will be able to ave a small home studio in there.

Since she goes back to work Monday I wanted her to be able to have this before then as well. I would say she liked it because these are the photos I was sent earlier today. 😀

So it looks like he will be her test subject and her little “Potter Head” for a while.

Here at work I am busy setting up PC’s, ordering stock for the coming months, and catching up with my co-worker on all things, work related and trip related.

I hope you have enjoyed your stay with me today and I’ll see you tomorrow! 😀 😀

Picture Update: Kitchen Edition

Hey Everyone!

This is my update to the kitchen project. I have a few pictures here showing what we have so far. (Don’t mind the mess, we have no where for anything to go at the moment)

This first one is of the lights themselves. They are hanging by a braided rope, into a stainless steel fixture. They each have an individual switch and are also connected to a switch on the wall beside them. You can”t really tell in this picture but they are the bulbs with the funky filament, which looks cool. They give off a warm light, not a bright white.

This next one shows you from the dining room looking into the kitchen. You can kind of see the small width of the kitchen here. It really opens everything up. The counter top isn’t fastened or caulked yet but we have some primer on this side. The kitchen at this point is completely painted that blue gray color you see. We will be painting this wall lighter than that left wall, but darker than the kitchen. We aren’t a huge fan of the tan counter tops but it works for now. (Again, don’t mind the mess)20161227_190823

This last one is another angle from the dining room into the kitchen. You can see the wall outlet and switch in this picture as well as how narrow the kitchen is. This has been a huge process but it really was worth it. It has taken much longer than we had originally planned but it will look good. 20161227_190903

Whats left? The trim still has to go on the bottom of the dining room side, under the counter top. We also need to paint the dining room wall. Next will be touching up some of the paint in the kitchen. The contractor will also have to come back for the fastening and caulking, but other than that we can put this project in the books. About time haha

Once we get it all done and cleaned up I’ll try to get a better picture of the finished product. Thank you for stopping by. Feel free to share your thoughts, or ask questions. I’ll be back tomorrow, I hope to see you all then! : D: D
