Oh Bother!

Hey Everyone!

Lets jump right into my darn electrical issue. The retired electrician came to my house before my meeting last night and looked at everything and listened to what I had already done. We tested a few things I still hadn’t done and still had.no.luck…. :/

That leaves me in a not so great position. He was baffled and hadn’t seen anything like it. I put a lot of weight on that statement because this was his chosen career for the majority of his life and even he doesn’t know what they did in my house.

I have found a way to bypass the knob and tube and have both lights operate on one switch. That will mean that the fan/light combo would have to be manually turned off while we want just the dining room table light on. I think I’m going to tape the new wires to the old and pull the run through the ceiling to the other fixture. From that point I can connect them all back up and should be good. I know it is all easier said than done, but to me it is a better option than taking my ceiling down.

We do have three outlets up stairs that are ungrounded, ran off of knob and tube wiring as well. I don’t think I can pull those through and fix them but I may try. If not I may have to just cut them off and fill the holes and lose three outlets. I don’t want to lose those outlets but I might have no other choice. So, that is where we are at…not the greatest.

Our Masonic meeting went off without a hitch last night and we successfully initiated our new brother to the first degree of Free Masonry. WE got home about 9:30pm and I passed right out.

That is all for me today, I hope to see you back again tomorrow! šŸ˜€ šŸ˜€

A Bit Of Everything

Hey Everyone!

After yesterday’s post I have cleared my head and will be taking the first step to work on some of these projects. Of course, one at a time will be best. The weather is finally cooperating and that will help. The first thing I am going to tackle is my porch and front stairs. I have to finish cementing the steps to make a nice enough 90 degree angle. Following that I will have to sand and paint. Soon after I will be able to lay the new outdoor carpet. I will, with any luck do the cement work tonight after work. I may possibly buy the carpet and double sided tape as well. If everything is on track I should be able to have this all done by the end of this weekend. It will be tough since this weekend is packed with other things to do but we will get it done! This whole thing will make the outward appearance of the house look 100% better. Depending on how much everything is going to cost will dictate what I am able to do after. I might be able to start working on making my own bookcases, one at a time. Maybe I can start on the garage. That way I won’t deplete my home fund in the process.

Work has been pretty slow today, and it makes me feel different things. On the one hand I want to get the heck out of here and be more productive elsewhere, but at the same time it is nice and peaceful. I should have a few more PCs to work on tomorrow and next week, that’ll keep me plenty busy. I think the only thing I have really had to go check out today was a screaming printer. You all know how I feel about those things!

I have been working on learning Python coding. I want to learn some sort of code and really know it. I heard that it is a great started language, but if I don’t use that knowledge I will surely lose it, that’s just how I am. I have been doing well so far, but I have ran into some snags with the code not working itself. So I took a step back from it because it will only get worse if I keep digging for something that isn’t there.

Our masonic degree work went well last night. We were in and out of there in about two hours. It was super hot in there though. We turned the AC on but it didn’t seem to make much of a difference. We had enough people there and a few guys on the sidelines which is nice to see. We are taking the months of July and August off for the summer, and will be back at it come September.

That is it for me today. I’ll be back again tomorrow for the Friday post, I hope to see you then! šŸ˜€ šŸ˜€

Life Post!

Hey Everyone!

Not much has been going on in my home life recently, that is why I haven’t posted about it much.

My wife and I are still getting ready for the arrival of our baby boy. We are very excited and are growing more impatient each day.

Tonight we have an initiation of a new Master Mason! He will be raised to this sublime degree at 7:30pm. It is an extra meeting so there won’t be a nice dinner waiting or us, so I’ll have to figure something out before I go haha.

My open season tournament is this weekend for softball. It was supposed to be last weekend but it rained and flooded more than the fields, if you read my other posts you know haha. Anyway it will be Saturday and hopfully the weather will cooperate! Fingers crossed.

I have a basement waterproofing guy coming Friday to see what my options are to keep my basement dry. I hope it doesn’t cost a bunch of money, because that is one thing I don’t have! With any luck a pump will do it, but I almost want to see what it would cost to get it all done and done right now. I mean, if we are going to use it everyday and try to finish it we may as well do it right. I don’t want mold down there or anything else that shouldn’t be there. We will see soon enough. I’ll keep you posted!

Thank you for embracing the new content! I’m glad I can get other kinds of stuff out there and keep the attention of my readers. That is all for this quick update, I hope you all have a great Hump Day! šŸ˜€ šŸ˜€

Last Night Was All Brotherhood!

Hey Everyone!

Back again from a long night of good fellowship and brotherhood.

Last night we held a 3rd degree, or master masons degree, at lodge. This is the final step of initiation for one to become a full fledged member. It generally takes three months, one for each degree. The brother we raise last night started his journey in freemasonry in March of this year.

The night goes like this: We arrive about an hour early to a homemade meal. It is $5 per person, to go towards payment to the cook. We eat a great dinner, differing completely from the months prior meal. We see who shows up for the meeting and see if we have enough people to fill the chairs needed to confer the degree and run the meeting. Last night we had 22 people in attendance, which is a very nice turn out. We run through some normal meeting stuff, much of which I can’t speak about, and then head into the degree work. It all takes about two hours. Afterwards we got a picture with half of the guys and the newly raised brother! You can tell who is is two ways: He is in the middle, and he has a plain white leather apron.

It really was a good turn out. We had baked chicken tenders, mashed potatoes, corn, and beans for dinner. After the meeting was said and done we gather back in the kitchen/lobby and had desert. I took one home for the wife, and didn’t eat any myself. It was looking good though! It was homemade strawberry shortcake, with a whip cream topping.

This brought us right up to 9pm and the ride home got us to about 9:30pm. We were beat from the degree work and ready for bed. That is all she wrote for the night!

I hope you enjoyed this post, as much as I enjoyed writing it! If you have any questions about freemasonry, that I am at liberty to talk about I gladly will answer them!

Until next time, I’ll see ya! šŸ˜€ šŸ˜€

Blog Update!

Hey Everyone!

I want to start off by talking a bit about the changes that I have started to work on. I have reduced my categories to three in hope to stay more focused on the content. They are as follows: Daily Life, Current Events/News, and Reviews.

They should be pretty self explanatory but I’ll say just a tiny bit about each. I will still be posting every week day.

The ‘Daily Life’ posts will be shorter than normal, to make room for other content, and consist of what is going on in my life. If nothing is going on I may skip this type of post until something remotely interesting comes up. For instance Mondays will probably have a longer ‘Daily Life’ post, because I’ll have done things over the weekend. Whereas days like today, nothing really happened on a Tuesday night haha.

The ‘Current Events/News’ post will be just that. I’ll talk about a certain story that I find interesting, controversial or other, and give my opinion and ask for feedback from you guys. I love hearing what other people think about topics that I find interesting. As far as how often I’ll post these, I’ll wing it. There won’t be a set schedule. I may not do one for a full week if I do a review and have an action packed life that week. You know what I’m saying?

This brings me to the one I’m pretty excited about. The ‘Reviews’ posts will mostly be movie reviews. These of course will only be posted if I have time to watch a movie and remember to take notes and review it haha. I am a huge movie buff and love that I have a way to incorporate it into my blog. Again these will come out sporadically, as I may do more ‘Current Events/News’ posts and ‘Daily Life’ posts in any given week.

I will try to keep these three categories separate so they will be easy to find if you are only interested in one type of post. I hope you all will be receptive to this idea and continue to be supporters of the blog! šŸ˜€

That being said this is a blog update post first, but also my ‘Daily Life’ post for the day. I know it is a bit earlier than normal but I’m busy later and still wanted to get a popst out for you all šŸ˜€

Last night I came home to find that my futon mattress was here two days early! That instantly makes my night haha. The little things that get me excited in my adult life haha. Here is a shot of it all set up:

The office is nearing completion quickly. My wife and I broke in the futon by watching “Heavyweights” on Netflix last night. It was very comfortable. All of which is surprising because we got the cheapest one we could from Wal-Mart at only $70!

This morning was like any other. I got up and fed the pets, and myself. Normally I make breakfast for my wife too, but she is sleeping in this week because she took a week of vacation before the baby gets here. I thought you all would like to see what I have to deal with while I eat and read the paper in the morning!

This is my cat Zazzles! He likes to come right up on me every morning. He sits like this each time and is always up in my business haha. We named him after an episode of the “The Big Bang Theory” for those of you wondering.

I don’t even fight it anymore. You really can’t when he looks so cute, and sleepy!

Tonight we have a masonic meeting, that is doubling as an initiation. It may be a long night, but worth it to bring in yet another member to the fraternity.

That is my ‘Daily Life’ post for the day. I hope you guys like the new formatting changes as well.

I really do hope to see you all again, it is always a pleasure! šŸ˜€ šŸ˜€

Well That Went Fast! (Picture Overload)

Hey Everyone!

I am back after a very productive, and fast weekend. I have a bunch of pictures from this weekend and I hope you enjoy!

Saturday we had our one day class and initiated five new guys in the the Masons. This was all very fun, and went quicker than expected. You can see the five new guys in the plain aprons below:

We had doughnuts and coffee for breakfast at about 8:30am, followed by a delicious smoked pork shoulder for lunch, with homemade vinegar based sauces. Four of those new guys will be in our lodge and the remaining one is from a lodge about an hour away. We are very excited to see all the new members already with this new year. Later that day I went with my cousin and got a new chainsaw chain and all of the things I would need to sharpen it on my own.

This takes us to my busy Sunday! I have eleven pictures here, in order, showing the task at hand. We had a cracking, dead, Sugar Maple about to fall on our cabin. We got a hold of my cousin and went out to get it down as safe as we could. You can see in teh pictures that we used his Jeep to winch it one way, a come-a-long to pull straight back, and he made the cuts. He works in the forestry so we let him do it haha.

Below you can see the videos that I took. you can see how close it really was to falling with its full weight onto our structure. He saved our butts this weekend. We did have the tippy top hit and break two 2×4’s but those can be replaced easy.

Once that fun was done, I still had a project at home to take care of, getting my office cable run from my basement to my attic! I had previously made about a 70′ cable and now got to use it. I had to run it from my living room, through the basement, out the wall, up the wall, over the wall, then up again into the attic. haha That is tough to follow! You can kind of see it all, follow the yellow cable. I had to drill into my siding and through into the attic cubby, where I will pit a switch and then terminate two cable ends into wall plates. I’ll be sure to keep you updated.Ā  Oh, I also used caulking in the bottom and top holes so nothing can get in, as well as to insulate.

That was my short, quick weekend! I hope you all had great ones too. I’ll see you again tomorrow for some of the same great content! šŸ˜€ šŸ˜€

Technical Trouble

Hey Everyone!

As you know I was out of work early yesterday. I have finally felt a little weird without my computer. It is fine though, I really don’t mind it. I found myself with time to kill and just ended up watching ‘Narcos’ on Netflix. Even though I got paid today I don’t have any money to get the tool for my tub, or a collar for my dog. Not yet anyways! I threw in a load of laundry and just tried to relax on the couch. When my wife got home we made, home made, turkey subs. They were delicious, we buy fresh sub buns, deli turkey, and American cheese slices. Since my wife is pregnant we heat the turkey in the oven, all while melting the cheese and toasting the bun. After that I usually just add light mayonnaise, spinach, and banana peppers, so good.Ā  I was able to hold strong with no snacks, and eating healthy, well portioned meals yesterday. I have done the same today. I know I should lose about 40 pounds, but have zero interest in exercise. That leaves me with healthy eating habits. My goal is to eat three meals per day, avoid snacks, and to cut out the pop. If I can do that I should be good.

Today at work we have been really busy. We created a ‘Restricted Access’ policy for one machine in the shop, which would normally be 100% OK. What we didn’t know was that our other domain controller (server in charge of everything) wasn’t syncing with the other one. It still saw every machine in that same group, and applied that strict policy to everything in the shop! Whoops! It took us a minute to figure out what happened, but once we did we got to work fixing it. I was in charge of going out to the people in the shop and letting them know what had happened, and help them get back to normal. Out network admin stayed at his desk and disabled the link between the two and fully restarted the wacky server. Once everything was correct we re enabled the policy and everything was right in the world again haha. I have also been in the process of replacing out maintenance managers PC, and we are hung up there as well. He runs a piece of software that requires ActiveX and a certain version of Java. He has everything he needs, buuut it still isn’t working. Now you can see why we haven’t replaced his in over 7 years haha. By the end of the day he will have it, that is my mission.

I have a Masonic initiation tonight, that will keep me busy until bedtime. We are bringing in another six guys this year already, and that means there will never be a free Wednesday for a while haha. It is a fairly long process, they have to get three different degrees over the course of three months. So with six new guys it will take 18 meetings to get them all in. Each degree takes anywhere from one to two hours. I will hitch a ride with my dad, and we will pick up my cousin on the way. It is nice to be able to do stuff with family.

That’s it for me today. I hope you are having a less stressful day than I am! Enjoy the rest of your day, and I’ll see you all again tomorrow! šŸ˜€ šŸ˜€

Is your data safe?

Hey Everyone!

Last night we received another baby gift from my wife’s aunt. It is this little thing, of which I forgot the name of. It is really neat! It converts into a small table and the legs adjust to the height of the child. This first picture is for babies the bottom floating part can move up for a small baby. That same foot rest can also take the place of the seat and it quickly becomes a table.

Here is a top view of all the little fun toys on the top. It does require AAA batteries for the four button light up music thingy, but that’s no big deal. The toys all attach by being latched to the underside of the platform and then are suction cupped to the surface. I would have to say my favorite toy is that little tree trunk. If you push down on the little leaf it squeaks and an owl pops out. (It also drives my dog nuts haha)

On a completely different note my solid state hard drive in my PC crapped out. Not completely I think I found a way to use it. I’m really not sure what happened to it. I was using it last night and everything was fine. I took a break and ate dinner with my beautifully pregnant wife, and watched some Scrubs on Netflix. I went back to my PC only to find it rebooting over and over again. It finally stopped and told me that I needed to install a bootable device. Say what! I was just using it. I did a few things at home and decided to pull it out and bring it to work with me today. SSDs are tiny so it was able to fit in my pocket and avoid being rained on. Once I got it here I threw it into another PC as a secondary device and checked to see if I could get to my files, at least. I could and that was a huge sigh of relief. I ran a few scans and realized that the drive itself was fine, but some of the operating system files were corrupt for an unknown reason. Realizing this I knew I only had one real option. I had to format the drive and later I have to install a new operating system. I have a disk at home and will have to do it late tonight or tomorrow, because I have a Masonic meeting/initiation tonight. This brings me to my question for today! How, if at all, do you backup the data on your computer? Do you use software, cloud backups, external drives, or do you do anything?Ā I thankfully have all of my important stuff on a separate drive and backed up to an external drive on my desk. With my SSD failing it really didn’t mess me up too much.

That’s all I have for you today, I hope you have enjoyed your stay! I’ll see you all again tomorrow. Happy Hump Day! šŸ˜€ šŸ˜€

Some Updating

Hey There!

Good news, I don’t think I am sick. My glands still seem swollen but I still feel fine. I went to the dentist yesterday and had a cavity filled. It was done perfectly well. Where I had an issues was that when I got home and was getting ready for my Masonic meeting the Novocain wore off, as it does. To my surprise the whole left side f my jaw hurt. I can only think that the Hygienist was putting some weight down on my jaw while she was using some of her tools of the trade. It Still hurts today over 24 hours later so I know its not from the simple cavity being filled. It made for a somewhat miserable night. It is still hard to open my mouth to eat.

The degree work that we did for my cousin’s 2nd degree in Free Masonry was fun though. I held a couple different positions throughout the night. I really enjoy the degree work, it is amazing how organized the whole thing is. The people doing more of the conferring of the degree have so many words memorized it blows my mind. We had a nice BLT dinner served to us beforehand and apple/pumpkin pie afterwards. My grandfather has been coming into town to see my cousins degree work. His last degree is unofficially going to be on a Saturday in October so we can have all of my family, who are Masons, be present. Our lodge will now have 6 of us!

The last thing I have to update you on is the Minecraft server. I have pretty much everything ready. I won’t be able to route the domain so I will have to just use a dynamic DNS address instead. I registered a host with No-IP and all that will be left to do is modify the client on the server when I get home. That will be priority #1. I hope tomorrow I can tell you all that it is up and running and give you the address. I hope to see a couple people join and say “What’s Up”. Again it is a survival server, but not on a hard level. If you have kids or teens that like to play and want a friendly server, they can join. It is very G rated. I’m pretty excited to let people know about it. I haven’t got anything huge planned but its just going to be nice to be able to give out the information. On a similar note, now I’m stuck with a domain and no use for it. Since it it Minecraft related I may try to make it some sort of landing page.

I will be having Mexican for dinner with my wife. We also haven’t found out what we are pre-approved for so that better hurry up, because I’m losing patience. I hope kyou have a great Thursday and I’ll see you all tomorrow! šŸ˜€ šŸ˜€

Wednesday Troubles

Hey Everyone!

As of last night things didn’t seem to be going my way, and that has carried on into today. Nothing major, just annoying things. Yesterday after work I realized I was getting a cold sore on my lip and now its quite awful and painful. Since I went to the softball tournament this weekend and was in the sun all day I got sun burnt pretty bad even with sun screen, and now I’m a flaky mess at work. It also brought out a bunch of pimples on my face and maybe even my cold sore. This morning I woke up and did everything like I normally do, so far so good I guess. I got to work and realized that the glands under my jaw are swollen and they hurt just to turn my head. I don’t have a sore throat, or a headache like I normally would if I was sick. This leads me to think I have some allergy issues. You know, unless I wake up dying tomorrow lol.

With all that being said I have to leave work early today to go to the dentist to get a cavity filled. Following that we have our first Masonic meeting since our summer break. I can’t miss it because I have a crucial role in the 2nd degree of initiation for my cousin. It will be a long night. Come to think of it the only thing that makes me feel like I could be getting sick is that when I sneezed earlier my body was a little achy and I know that is never a good thing. I will just have to jack myself up with some vitamin C and go on my way.

I have been messing with texture packs in Minecraft and found a few cool ones. I will be trying a bunch out later to see which ones are my favorites. I am also trying my hand at shaders but haven’t got them working yet. As far as the domain routing, I got a few answers from some people and I’ll be trying them out soon. If they don’t work I will just reconfigure my ddns to be less specific and open it up to people with just the ddns address. So hopefully in the next couple days either way.

This weekend, if I’m not sick, we plan on going to a craft festival in the area. They have it every year and let local vendors show their stuff. It is a great time of year to have it since people want to start decorating their homes for fall. It is held at our local fair grounds and is for the whole weekend. My wife’sĀ  family may be joining us this year so we will make a day of it. We may even get the kayaks out after. Again, if I’m not sick.

I hope you have a better mid week than I seem to be having. I’ll see you tomorrow! šŸ˜€ šŸ˜€
