Bits of Everything!

Hey Everyone!

This will have to be another quick post. Today for lunch we met in the cafeteria and ate with one of the summer help kids that worked within our department. We had a couple departments there and the new VP. It was nice to just chat with everyone a little bit because we don’t always see each other.

It is pouring down rain here today. It was pouring down rain last nigh as well. I’m sure my yard is flooded lol, and I hope it hasn’t come into the house. Fingers crossed! We haven’t had a ‘flood’ in a while so I hope we are ok. It has been a nice reminder that the summer is, sadly, ending soon. 😦

Everett has a haircut scheduled for tonight around 6pm. This will be his 4th cut in less than two years. His hair grows pretty darn fast.

I was also informed that tonight we have a Masonic practice. I found out about it this morning. It got lost in the long month. It is usually the 4th Wednesday in the month and general the next Wednesday is our meeting at the beginning of the next month. Months like this one have five Wednesdays and screw everything up haha. They are going to motion at the next meeting to just have it be the last Wednesday of each month. That will be much better.

Lastly today is my pay day! Woo! I was finally able to put a couple bucks into each of my savings accounts this time.Β  XD I’m hoping to keep saving until I hit my own set buffer amount and keep going. That way I can feel safe in getting a few things done and know that I didn’t just drain the whole account.

That is it for me today. I hope you have a less rainy Wednesday than me, and I hope to see you back again tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Birthday Girl! (&Some Work Stuff)

Hey Everyone!

It was one of those days again, yesterday. It was a fairly calm day until just before lunch.

My co-worker called me up and needed me to bring him a tool. He was in our other shop location, and was sick of driving back and forth. He offered to buy me lunch, so of course I was in! πŸ˜€ That is why I wasn’t able to post yesterday. I was helping him gt the WiFi up and running at our other location. It took about an hour, then we stopped off and grabbed a sub from the local gas station that makes them pretty well. I picked up a weird taco sub, with Doritos, and your general taco stuff. It was really good! That busy momentum from before carried all the way through the afternoon.

If we go back a bit further, it was my wife’s birthday yesterday! I got up ad made her a breakfast sandwich, with some strawberries, and an iced coffee. I was able to fix Everett some breakfast too, taking some of the load off of her. She and Everett have been getting up later since she starts work later now, so she has been getting stuck making her own breakfast most days.

I ordered her a camera bag that she has wanted for some time. It was on back order for ever and still won’t ship out until the 31st but it is worth the wait. I let her know she had that coming and now she is super excited and can’t wait to receive it.

If you would like to take a look around that small shop click the link: Here!

After work let out, and my wife finished up working as well we got ready to go out for dinner. I let her pick where she wanted to go and she decided on the local Taco Hut! They have some of the best ‘south of the border’ food around us. My wife got some Fajitas, I got the steak tacos, and we split a nacho buffet! πŸ˜€

Everett picked off of our plates. He really seemed to like the beans more than anything, but also had rice and chips as you can see from his chin haha. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ That rounded out our day and we just spent the night watching New Girl re-runs and lounging.

Today, so far is a terrible day for the terminals in our shop. I came in to three of them not working correctly and have only been able to get 1 back online. I took a break from them to write this because they are driving me nuts.

These are the two models that have been failing hard lately. They are both about 20+ years old and need to be thrown out, but until we upgrade the whole thing they need to work. If you don’t already know 20 year old technology is not something you want incorporated in your modern business haha. πŸ˜€

that is all for me today! I hope you have a great hum day and I’ll be back again tomorrow! (as long as nothing drags me away again) πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Pay Day!

Hey Everyone!

It is pay day! Thank goodness. I have been waiting until now to pay off our vacation and get my credit card back to $0 . That is a great feeling, if you have ever done it yourself you will understand haha.

We put about 98% of our vacation on my credit card, on purpose. It was my plan to pay it off when I got back. I get cash back, on certain things, and was able to build that up a little bit. I’m glad I was able to keep the cost down on our vacation. I think everything all said and done, including driving and extra hotel stays, as well as everything we did, only cost around $2,100. πŸ˜€ I’ll take that as a win. It was a 1500 mile drive with a stop on the way and the way back. It involved a 6 night hotel stay that we didn’t have initially planned. We ate out every night and went shopping. We also paid for things like museums and zoo fees. I’m proud of that! πŸ˜€ Maybe that will help people thinking that they can’t get away for a decent price.

Every pay day I get a nice feeling of rejuvenation. I get my bills paid off and what not sure, but more importantly I save. I know that each time I get paid I have some money go to my 401k, and into Everett’s 529 college savings account. I love knowing that I am preparing for the future while working on being able to live in the present. Some of those savings are a bit depleted as of late because of our trip but by next year they will be ready to go again! πŸ˜‰

Another thing I recently did was signed up for a credit union savings account. Trust me, I don’t need another savings account to monitor and deal with, but this is the next step in the process to get my ass a car of my own. credit unions have the lowest interest rate of most places out there for things like auto loans. When the time comes, I’ll now be established there and be able to pull out some money with a low rate, like under 2% low.

As for today, it has been super slow and boring. I am at a stand still with the UPS project. I am waiting on other people to move so I can continue to work. That is my whole project for this month so I want to get it done. πŸ˜€

That is all for me today. I hope to see you back again tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Discover The Dinosaurs!

Hey Everyone!

I have been keeping very busy at work, which is a great thing. It makes my entire day go by so fast! I am already ready for the weekend haha. I have been working some more on the UPS upgrades at work and even created a nice spreadsheet to present my work when the time comes. I have also been working closely with a company in Florida, to repair and replace our IBM terminals in the shop. They are old and have to be, to work with our somewhat dated system. Lastly I have finally placed my April order to replace workstation PCs, and even got some monitors and battery backups! πŸ˜€ I kinda squeeze those things in sometime for stock purposes. If someone needs something I try my best to have it.

Speaking of the weekend a bit ago, our Saturday just went from fairly dull to something I am looking forward to. My wife has a baby shower in the morning for one of her friends so I’ll travel with her to that and just kinda hang out. Afterwards, I just bought tickets to “Discover The Dinosaurs: Time Trek” It will be at a local convention center. I’m not sure Everett will ever remember such a thing, but it fills the time gap that we have.

DinoEblast.jpg

Here is the write up for the event:

At Discover the Dinosaurs: Time Trek, you’ll be transported through our special Time Lab where you can observe enormous prehistoric dinosaurs and glimpse at mythological, magical dragons. This experience is all about hands-on family fun! Kids will love the larger-than-life creatures, and activities like Design-a-Dino, Prehistoric Poop, or the Race Through Time Labyrinth will keep everyone entertained. Families can compete in the Cretaceous Challenge Zone, visit the Time Trek Theater to meet baby dinosaurs, and test their dino-knowledge in our family and individual trivia contests.

PLUS at our Dragon Edition events, we’ve incorporated famous dragons and lore from three very distinct cultures – dragon legends are thought to have started with the discovery of unknown dinosaur fossils!”

I think it will be pretty neat. I’m not really going in with any expectations, so i can’t really be disappointed haha. I’ll be sure to take some pictures and show you all what it was like.

After that fun, my wife scheduled a photo shoot with a couple. We will meet them at the desired upon location around 6:30pm and then travel home. So you can see we really packed that day with plenty to see and do.

On another note I was please to receive a phone call from the garage door people, telling me that they came to my house and fixed my door! I’ll get the bill in the mail, but they fixed it! It hasn’t worked since we moved in over a year ago, and I just got around to having it fixed. I have been picking it up and putting it down this whole time for my wife. It will be amazing to click a button and have it actually work haha. they changed out the gear box and attached the missing arm that connects the motor to the door. They were going to go back and apply weather stripping to the sides to eliminate the gaps on the sides. I’m not sure I have ever been this excited about a garage that I don’t even get to park in. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

That is all for me today, I hope you enjoyed the post. I’ll be back again tomorrow, I hope to see you then! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

HUMP DAY!

Hey Everyone!

It is hump day and pay day for me! I like getting paid, as do most people. I have been very busy today at work, and with my co-worker leaving to go on his annual golf trip I will be flying solo for the rest of the week. I have a full plate of things to work on and with any luck that will make the rest of the week fly by.

I have been thinking about calling my student loan companies and seeing if I get on an income based plan, if it may lower my payments. I have been making level payments for the past few years and it is pinching me pretty hard. If I can save a few hundred dollars a month that will only help my savings and or car buying process. They are a pain in the ass to call and talk to.Β  I’m not sure why all service people are terrible to talk to. Awful.

Everett kept us up literally all night last night. He had a fever and was coughing and thrashing around all night. We really got about an hour of sleep. At one point we fed him to see if that would help and he threw it all back up on me and the bed. It was just a really rough night. My wife kept him home today and we have an appointment after work to get him checked out. We both hate seeing him sick like this. Otherwise he is just as happy as ever, but since he has been like this he is more cuddly, so that my wife likes haha.

Another thing about work today is that I get my yearly review. I’m nervous, for really no reason. I think right after this I’ll get called into my boss’ office and get reviewed. A couple of weeks ago we had to compile a list of projects that we worked on or completed so he has that for reference. He will then bring up his review with his higher ups and that will determine where we fall for our profit sharing bonus and whether or not we get any raises. Let me tell you, I could really use a raise.

I forgot to mention anything about spring yesterday. I thought to myself why is that? I determined that since it was about 30 degrees outside and whipping wind, that it didn’t really feel like spring, so it just passed right through my mind haha.

That is all I have for you all today, I’ll be back again tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Basketball & SBSK!

Hey Everyone!

I hope you are all having a nice Wednesday! My work day is half over, in turn my week is half over as well. We are now on the downhill slide to the weekend.

I don’t really have much going on today, and I’ll take it after the day I had yesterday haha. Things have been much better. I didn’t fall all over the place and my heel is feeling better. I’m much more adjusted to the time change, coffee helps! πŸ˜€

I was just informed that we were invited to my dad’s friend’s house to watch some March Madness games on Friday. He has a home theater that he made in his basement. It is really cool. He has a spot for concessions just outside the main room. There are about 6 really comfortable recliners and a big ol’ screen. We get invited over there for some big games in most any sport. We went and watched a few movies there when he just finished it.Β  I’m not even sure who is playing, but it’ll just be fun to be there.

Since I really don’t have much more to talk about today I’ll share a YouTube channel with you. I found this channel the other day and have watched most of the videos. I’m still a little torn with the guy in charge of it, I don’t know why, but the messages are nice. It is called “Special Books by Special Kids”, you can click the name for a link to the channel.

Here is the about section of his channel.

My name is Chris. I used to be a teacher but now travel the world to interview humans with a diagnosis with the hope of spreading kindness and empathy. This vlog started as a Facebook page in a special education classroom with interviews of my students. It soon evolved into interviews with people of all conditions and ages from around the 🌎. I soon realized that the individuals I feature deserve longer more in-depth content. So here we are on YouTube. SBSK is now officially a 501c3 nonprofit. 100% of the ad revenue generated from this channel goes to the nonprofit so we can continue to make these videos. We also use these funds to provide grants for neurodiverse families in need. Thanks for your support.

They are short videos shedding some, much needed, light on mental and physical disabilities. It is a nice platform for these children and adults to get their voices heard. If you have a few minutes stop over and check it out. Some are sad and others are inspirational.

That is all for me today. I hope you have a great day and I’ll see you tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Life, Heckfire, & Ingress!

Hey Everyone!

I wasn’t able to get a post out yesterday. I was focused on finding a solution or possible solution to the dilemma I posed Monday. Although I haven’t been able to do so, I have gathered my thoughts enough to post today haha.

We are working on some change, not sure what entirely, but change none the less. It may be my wife taking another job. It may be downsizing our house. It may be moving to another area. It may also be building new. Lastly it could remain the same, with tweaks to our budget. We are not certain which is best, which is viable, or which we will choose. It will be sorted either way, sometime, hopefully sooner than later.

On a much lighter note, I have been playing a mobile game in my free time that has become quite addicting. It is called, “Kingdoms of Heckfire.”

21192501_1754692594835337_401992816648784491_n.png

It is a clan based game like most of the others, but it has a cartoon live vibe to it unlike the rest. You build your own kingdom, level your buildings, research to add strength, and join a clan. Once in a clan you follow their set rules. You can, depending on what you want to do, climb the ranks and become a top advisor to the leader. You can also branch out and make your own clan from scratch. Our clan is now the #5 clan in our realm. I am one of the three VPs and have a lot of power over what is done within the clan. We create and break alliances to better suit our needs, and being one of the most powerful we can force our might on smaller clans. Now in a way our clan in particular has taken communication toΒ  whole different level. We have created a few Discord channels, one for our clan with a sub group for our leaders, as well as the same set up for us and the other clans we have allied with. This actually keeps the game fresh all day long. Instead of relying on in game notifications, I can be pinged in Discord about what is going on in more of a real time way. In some ways this game is more stress than it is worth, but it, like most video games helps distract you from reality, and lets you become whatever you want. That to me is fun.

Speaking of fun mobile games, I am still playing Ingress as well. That is, when I can. I don’t have much free time anymore to just waste gas and drive to portals haha. I have been able to slightly take back my small city from the evil enlightened green guys. Screen shot below:

Screenshot_20180124-074442.png

I have made the majority of those fields and layered what I could. It may get taken out as we speak but for now it is covered. I have been doing most of the work myself, which is proving to be quite hard. I am low on resources all around. I do what I can. I have been playing for well over a year now and I have found myself capped as far as leveling due to badge progress. I need another gold badge to level up, and I have all of the ex to level just fine. I have been slow on some of the badges due to the area I play in and lack of travel. :/ It is understandable though and I’ll get there in time.

That is all for me I hope you have a great hump day, and I’ll see you all again tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Follow Up Appointment!

Hey Everyone!

I’m back with a little more content than yesterday haha. Last night, right after work, we took Everett to his follow up appointment. Now this was all of our first time going to this pediatrician, so we weren’t sure what to expect.

We pull up, after the 30 minute drive, and see a pretty normal somewhat small building. Once inside it really opened up. That place looked huge! You are met with a large purple waiting room that is divided for sick children and well children, which I though was really neat. They try to take an extra measure to keep the sick kids away from potential healthy ones. The waiting room of course had some toys, but also had neat things like large front wheeled bicycles hanging from the ceiling. Really cool. We registered in no time and went back shortly after. The hallways are lined with life size stuffed animals and more cool things. It was a very open concept of space with most people working right on that large hallway floor. Another thing to mention is that they are open until 8pm that is unheard of where we live. We are able to get out of work make the 30 minute drive and still be there with time for an hour long appointment. We were there an hour, and most times that would bother me, but it was no big deal. It went by in the blink of an eye because the doctor was very engaging and was helping us actually understand what was going on in the body of our child. She was very relate able, with three boys of her own, as well as knowledgeable. I really think we have found our forever pediatrician.

On to his appointment! We were told he is still breathing fine and that his croup seems to be getting better on its own, which is great. Once we told them that he wasn’t taking his steroids because he was throwing up she said not even to bother with them. Fun fact, I guess those steroids could stunt his growth, which we were unaware of. He is already going to be a shorty, we don’t need to aid that haha. To our surprise she did see that he may have an ear infection starting so she got us an antibiotic. Since Everett tends to get yeast infections while on antibiotics they gave us some sample boxes of probiotics to see if that would help stop the yeast infection. Again everything was just so well delivered that we didn’t even realize we were there so long. We also had them check him for the flu and RSV, both came back negative so we were good there too. πŸ˜€

Today he is back at the babysitters so we will see how that goes. I have been pretty busy at work today, unlike yesterday. We have had a printer that just up and stopped working. It is networked in and just quit. We have two patches, one on each end and a full run from the wall by the printer to the patch panel. That makes for 3 lines to test. Well….all the lines except the run tested fine, so we got out the super detailed testers and tested the whole thing again. this let us know that approximately 318 feet in on the orange wire there was a disconnect. Once finding that we took a shot in the dark and cut a particular section that could be the problem area and made new ends for the cable. Sure enough it worked. So we are back up and online with that printer. Time spent was probably 2 hours this morning. It feels good to get some really troubleshooting in.

Today was my pay day! Woo, that is until I realize it is all gone 😦 I paid off most of my bills, then my student loans, Everett’s college fund, my retirement, and have about 20 bucks for gas. R.I.P. my pay check, gone too soon. XD XD

That is about it for me today. I hope you all have a great hump day, and I’ll see you again tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Everything But The Kitchen Sink!

Hey Everyone!

It is Wednesday and for me that means payday! It sounds great until you know that I don’t have any money haha. I hope someday I won’t have to live pay check to pay check. I got my direct deposit, only to come into work and pay off my bills and have enough money for gas in the car that isn’t even mine. RIP. The only good things I can say are that I am saving for retirement and my sons college, so that is a plus.

Speaking of money being gone before you even have it, I have a plumber coming tomorrow sometime after work. I’m sure that they will run their own snake and prove for themselves that my pipe is busted. That will come with a fun bill, followed by a bigger more fun quote to fix it lol. If it is anything like the other quote it will be a couple thousand dollars, for them to jack hammer my foundation and replace the broken piece, then filling it all back in. They should, like the last plumber, also repair the dry wall they have to tear out.

Friday starts the last month of 2017, and that evening I am going out to camp. the next day I will be getting up early and heading further into the woods, to hunt. We have 4-5 spots set up on my dads land that are prime for hunting, which is good because we have three people usually hunting. I will start low on the hill at my deer stand. Depending on the weather I may go higher on the hill. It is looking like it may be cooler, but still won’t be any snow. That makes it tough to see the contrast of a deer and hard to follow it if you have to. that being said the goal is to take a good shot and not have to chase it down. My dad went out yesterday and didn’t see anything, so I hope there are still some in the area when I get there. I have to find something to sleep on in the cabin because it isn’t finished. I’ll have to find a couple cushions or a small futon mattress or something to drag in there with me.

The other day I finished the third season of Zoo on Netflix, only to be disappointed that it was a cliffhanger leading into the fourth, which isn’t out yet. grrr. I hate that, I mean I understand why it happens but I really thought they were gearing up to end it and then it just drug on and on, then stopped. RIP again. I tried watching the first episode of Godless last night and it was so boring I fell asleep on my couch watching it. I may give it another try when I’m not also fairly tired from the night prior haha.

My co-worker is off today so I am the only one here with any real networking experience, you would think I’d be busy, but I am not. Half of my company takes this and next week off to go hunt, that should give you an idea about where I live haha. Most highschools in the area give the first day of hunting off, because it is pointless to try that day because no one shows up. Anyway if no one is here no one can have a problem with their computer!

In other news my wife is looking for a work from home position. We would like to get away from spending $500 a month on a babysitter and she would like more time home with him, so that seems to be a win win. The hard part is finding one. I have found her a few but she didn’t want to do them I guess. She has also just signed up at care.com to be a babysitter herself! I mean our baby sitter is making bank for being a retired woman, making money under the table. Doing some simple math, at $500 a month for one kid, and having a solid 6 kids at all times (some days more/some less), then multiplying by the twelve months in a year, that is about $36,000 a year from home. I am not sure if she pays taxes on it, she might but I’m not sure. It isn’t the greatest income and it is demanding but it is viable for where we live. If we were to move out a ways like we would like to someday it may not work, that is why I would rather her get in with a company that will keep her even if she moves. We will see, only time will tell.

That is all from me today. I hope you all have a great humpday! I’ll see you again tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Getting Excited For The Weekend!

Hey Everyone!

Last night was a fairly lazy one. The wife and I went to Taco Bell for dinner and brought it home. We also started watching Fuller House, even though we both really didn’t want to haha.

We weren’t sure we wanted to watch a bad reunion show that would be drug out too long. that being said we started watching anyway lol. It is a neat show and they incorporate things from the original series often. It is 100% cheesy, corny, what have you. But in a way it is cute and still really neat. I am glad they could get most of the cast back together, you don’t see that very often. They even call out the Olsen twins when they can about not signing up to be on the show.

Throughout the night my wife and I cleaned up around the house and put some of our crap away. Things have started to pile up lately, probably from living out of out living room. I was able to clear the dining room table so that you could actually see it! haha.

I am really excited for this weekend, even though I know it will fly by. I can’t wait to head to a wedding, play ball, go to the fireworks and celebrate the 4th! I’m pretty sure we are going kayak/canoeing with my brother and his wife. We are going to go to the Kinzua Dam and go down the Allegheny River. We haven’t been on the river at all this spring/summer so I’m ready to go!

We had another retirement lunch at work today for a guy in the shop. Which means, you guessed it, free lunch! Woo, can’t beat that. We had fried chicken, three bean salad, potato salad, veggies, fruit, and cake! It is a great day when you get free lunch haha.

The rest of the day will be pretty boring. I have to go home and mow my grass, and possibly go for a walk with the dog and the baby. I’m just plugging away waiting for Friday!

That’s all for me! I’ll be seeing you again tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€
