What A Day!

Hey Everyone!

I wasn’t able to get a post out yesterday, and for that I apologize. Aside from being swamped at work, I had to meet with the plumber once again, and take the dog to the vet.

This weekend was fun and now I’m sore. We played 5 softball games on Saturday with a fairly new younger team. Still the same core people but some nice additions. We will have a good team this year. It was a long hot day, but felt great to get back out there.

Back to yesterday.

First at work I have been setting up a few machines at the same time trying to get everything out at the right time. I have a ton of things in my office. If you didn’t know better you would start to think it was a storage shed haha.

Over the weekend our big sink that the washer drains into, was clogged. Without being able to do laundry or wash the paint sprayer, we were sitting ducks. So around 11 am I got the call that the plumber was on his way. I was with him at my house until about 1 pm. They were the same company that I used before. He took apart all of the fixtures to the sink and moved it out of the way.

1

Until we were left with just this pipe sticking out of the ground.

2

In that picture you can see the small trap on the floor and his snake. He ran that a couple of times before doing this.

3

This is a balloon mechanism that you feed water into. the end expands, like a balloon, in the pipe so a seal forms. It then uses a tight nozzle on the end to shoot water out in a jet stream and blast the gunk out of the small pipe in the the main line. Thankfully this worked and we were able to clear the pipe. He put every thing back together and back to work I went.

I was only at work for another couple hours before I had to leave early to pick up Everett. Once I got home I turned right back around with the dog and took her to the vet for her annual Lyme vaccine. She lost the winter weight, and they said she looks and sounds great. We will take that win! She is a real pain in the ass at the vet. She walks in the door every time and starts barking non stop until she is put in a room. They put her in one early because she was so annoying haha. Its always a struggle.

I finally made it home and changed my clothes, and headed out to paint some of the fence. The weather isn’t looking great for the end of this week so I wanted to make sure I used the good days while they were here. My paint is getting old and the latex is getting a bit chunky? I guess? So the sprayer is getting clogged and isn’t working well. I decided to hand paint all of the weird spots like the 4×4 posts, and 2×4 supporting beams. this way when I go get another fresh gallon tonight, I can just spray the boards and maybe be done! that would be great.

That was my busy weekend and even busier Monday! I hope you had a great weekend as well, and I hope to see you back again tomorrow! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

How Is Your Thursday?

Hey Everyone!

My Thursday is moving along at a very average pace. Not sure how I feel about that. :/

Last night was a stated Masonic meeting night for me. That always involves wearing a suit and tie, and being gone most of the evening. My wife isn’t super fond of that, but generally it is only one night a month. Last night warm, which makes for an uncomfortable meeting. We had a nice dinner of spaghetti and meatballs with a nice salad bar. For desert we had ice cream and cupcakes. One of our members is the Sheriff and he had a presentation about drugs in our area and how we got to this point. It was pretty interesting. I think it is about time for him to retire though. His views and knowledge on certain things are dated, and some of the things that hang him up, are things that people my age know as common knowledge. I think it would be best to get some one in that position that is with the times a bit more. For the sake of productivity only. I believe that this guy has done a fine job for years in our area. Overall it was a great night for fellowship.

It is rainy and supposed to storm here within the next couple hours, so nothing will be accomplished tonight haha. My wife and I are working on things to gift each other for our upcoming anniversary and mother/father’s day. We know that a physical gift isn’t necessary, but we like taking the time to find something that each of us needs. Most of the time it is something that the other person would have just gotten themselves so we aren’t really out there with our choices. I have been putting together a simple list of things I could use, like a table saw or plunge router for out in the garage. Looking another way I also suggested a couple different types of Ukuleles I’ve had my eye on. Like I’ve said in another post, our May is packed with stuff, anniversaries, holidays, birthdays, and a vacation. that will just result in more pictures for my posts! haha

I have a bit more work to do to finish painting the fence. I would like to have it finished before Everett’s party. It will be a challenge because I have softball starting up this weekend, and I have to fight with the weather and paint sprayer to get it done. My goal is to have it done and be able to power wash the deck before people come over. Who knows! Once that project is complete I would like to make a scrap wood container on wheels. I want to model it from April Wilkerson’s ‘Lumber Rack’ which can be found: Here! I really love her videos, and she makes things people would actually want haha.

Anyway! that is all for me today. Not much going on. I’ll be back again tomorrow for what is hopefully a Friday morning “Coffee Talk” Fingers crossed! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

May 1st!

Hey Everyone!

I don’t have too much for today, so we can just enjoy the fact that it is now May! Hopefully most of us are having better weather now and that will stick with us throughout the ensuing summer.

This is a big month for us as a family now. Everett’s birthday is in May. Mother’s Day is in May, Our dating and wedding anniversaries are also in May. So it is safe to assume that May will be full of friends, family, and good times. This May is special more so because it will be Everett’s first birthday. We are pretty excited and sad at the same time about that one. We are going to have a party for him and invite our family and friends, for a nice time. We are also going on a nice vacation in May. We are heading to Colorado! We are taking the cheap route of driving a small vehicle, and staying with family. It will be awesome, I really can’t wait much longer for that. I’m not sure what we will do there so if you have any suggestions feel free to throw them my way?!?

On another note I was able to finish hand painting the inside part of our back landing. This means I’m good to use the paint sprayer again and not worry about painting the house haha. I hope to maybe get some of that done tonight, as well as find out if I’ll need a bit more paint. Once the painting gets done I’ll have to get my dad’s power washer and spray down the garage and out back deck since we are having people over. We have done a bunch of yard work in the past 2 years and haven’t cleaned that area yet, so it just has some dirt and what not over it.

That is about it. That is our month in a nut shell. I hope you are planning some cool things for this summer. I’ll talk to you all again tomorrow! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

I Started A Thing!

Hey Everyone!

It would appear that I kept my ‘Productive Weekend’ going strong yesterday. I stopped at my dad’s house after work and picked up his paint sprayer. I have never used one before and really wasn’t sure if I was capable of doing a good enough job. My intentions were to try a small area out of sight to test my skills. That happened to turn in to me painting the whole outside of my entire fence!

Here is the inside for comparison. It is just treated fence wood from Lowes that has been out in the elements for over a year.

The Red that is in the last picture was there previously so we did our best to color match that.

Here is the main spot in our driveway painted

And going up the stairs (That is only there because my dog decided to jump the railing…

6

I also did the back behind my garage and across the back of my yard, until I ran into my backdoor neighbors bushes, and the front part facing the road on the other side. I would like to get the rest of the back pained but I’ll have to fight with their bushes like we did putting the fence in haha. I just like a complete job is all.

I would like to have the rest of it painted before Everett’s first birthday party. the hard part will be up there by the landing. I tried to cover the siding as best I could, but some the paint took off with the wind and speckled some of the siding a bit. I’ll have to see if a pressure washer will take it off. After all it is latex paint, who knows haha. I may hand paint the inside by the landing to avoid that entirely, it will just take quite a bit longer.

That is all the excitement from yesterday, it is raining today so I won’t be able to get back at this for a while. It will be eating away at me for sure. I hope you enjoyed this little post, and I’ll see you all again tomorrow! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Productive Weekend!

Hey Everyone!

This weekend, in my opinion was great! I had a real blast. Saturday I waited until about 11am, when the weather was starting to get nice and decided to tackle the garage project. I desperately wanted to get this looking better. As you may recall I bought 8 sheets of plywood from Lowes and was just waiting for a decent day. Here are two before pictures from the left and right sides respectively.

1

2

I was able to use all 8 sheets with some leftovers that just didn’t fit anywhere, so I was right on when guessing how much I would need. It took me about 7 solid hours to get it all done by myself. Let me tell you, it isn’t fun lifting an 8 foot long sheet of plywood 4 feet alone, while climbing a step ladder. It was rewarding to see it all up though. (and organized)

There were a few hard spots when I had quite a few cutouts and some difficulty trying not to pinch the wires for the garage door, but over all I’m very satisfied.

Everett and my wife came out to see me a couple times and see the progress, but he was trying to eat rocks, sooooo he went back inside haha.

Sunday I was going to keep the ball rolling. I wanted to go get paint for the fence and start it. That was quickly changed as I got word that we were going to have some hitting practice for softball this summer. I still wanted to get paint so I headed back to Lowes and got 5 gallons of close matching paint. I brought a piece that was the color I wanted and they tried a color match. It turned out a little more brown than red, but it is pretty close.

I got home just in time to turn around and go hit some balls. For the next two hours I got in some much needed practice, and got all the kinks out. Hopefully I’ll be ready for the opening season tourny on the 5th and 6th.

Since I had been doing a bunch of stuff on my own, we decided to go take some pictures of Everett with mommy, to get some much needed quality time with my family. We headed to aย  local park and I took some pictures of the two of them. They aren’t edited so I don’t have any to show you, but I do have a couple cell phone pictures behind the scenes haha.

On the way home I was driving behind this guy and this really neat car. I have seen it around town quite a bit and made my wife get a picture. If you look in the top left of this picture you can see it was a nice day.

9

If you weren’t aware my little boy hit the 11 month old mark Sunday as well. He is a growing boy now. We also saw the first sign of a real tooth on Sunday too!! It looked like a piece of food on his gum and upon further inspection it was a real tooth! I’m not sure we are ready for our boy to have a toothy smile haha.

That is all from me today. I hope you all had a fantastic weekend, I know I did! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

So Many Projects!!!

Hey Everyone!

I don’t have much for today, I have been focused on a few other things. I want to tackle a couple projects, and I’m trying to think of the best ways to go about it all. My wife and I want to make three bookcases that will be permanently on on attic walls. The issue with having someone else do it, is the money. It was quoted to be $1,700, which is probably very fair. I can’t help but think I could do it with some help for cheaper. Of course I could, I wouldn’t be paying for labor. How they would turn out I have no idea, I’ve never done it.

The other thing I really want done is to finish squaring up my front steps with cement. After that I need to paint them and the rest of the porch rail. Following that I want to rip up the existing outdoor carpeting on the porch and replace it, as well as have it go over the stairs. I want it over the stairs for added protection from the weather. These are the two main things I want to get done, that seem to be in reach.

The things that aren’t in my reach at the moment are the waterproofing of my basement that was quoted at about $7,700. That will have to wait until next spring, but it is on the tippy top of our list. We would like to get the driveway paved, and we looked into that too. The quote we got was for $3,000 which is again just out of reach. We have also looked into central air, since our furnace is already set up for it. I think they were in the ball park a a couple thousand as well. I think we would only need the outside unit and a new thermostat. I would like to insulate and board up my garage. I ran the numbers and that would be about $650. Lastly I would like to have our new fence painted the same red as the other fence and out deck. I have no idea what that would cost, but it would be cheaper to do on our own.

So with all of this swirling around in my head, on top of caring for a newborn, I’m a bit lost on where to begin. It is good for me to write this all out, and I’m glad I am. I just haven’t been able to worry about finding other content for today.

Real quick though, we have a Masonic degree being conferred tonight, that will be fun as always. This Saturday we have our company picnic, at a water park, and will be bringing baby Everett. Sunday will be filled with more softball. Hopefully we will have the weather we desire and make a great time of it all!

That’s it for me today. I hope you are enjoying your hump day and I’ll see you tomorrow! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

So Many Updates! (Pictures)

Hey Everyone!

Back again from a busy week night! I set out to get a few things done last night and with the help of my dad and brother we got them all done.

Somewhat simultaneously, we worked on all of these projects. The first one pictured is the big one. I really wanted to get to work on the cubby storage for the baby’s room. We had to make it on the floor so we had access to all sides at any given time. I used the drawings from yesterday as reference.ย  And , well, here it is:

20170329_194412

I assembled the whole thing with the two long pieces of lumber that I bought. I fashioned them together with wood glue and my nail gun with 2″ brad nails.

20170329_194417

You can see that I have weight on the tops, and for good reason. The bottoms ofย  three of the vertical sections are glued only. There was no other way to attach them, and I didn’t feel comfortable trying to toe nail it in the side.I have talked to a few people about it, and they have suggested if it becomes a problem that they make small brackets that could help hold it all together. I may look into that. The other thing that I think I’m going to do is return the lumber from the other project and get a panel that will fit the back of this to keep it sturdy. You can see the table saw right beside it, that is keeping it up perfectly.

One of the other things we accomplished was getting our ‘wedding tree’ planted. For our wedding we had a tree that we both put soil and water in. It was in place of a candle or sand. Well we lived at my parents house for two years after and it didn’t do well at all. I don’t think it’s dead but it isn’t looking good haha. We wanted it planted at our first home and now it is. We hope that it will grow and recover, but who knows. Ifย  you are curious, it is a Japanese Maple.

20170329_195629

Another big one was, getting our mail issues sorted out. Again you know I didn’t want to be rushed to get my steps fixed. So we went ahead and put in a new mailbox! It was the one that we used for cards at our wedding. My dad had a treated post, and we dug the hole with a post hole digger. We have it close to the house so it will never be a big hassle to get the mail. We didn’t want it by the sidewalk, because we didn’t want kids messing with it. (not that they would)

20170329_19583020170329_195838

I am going to stain the post and the little boards up under the box and throw on some nice stick on numbers for the mailman. I called the post office at 8:15am to get them bright and early. I had them take the hold off of my mail and have them delivering any mail they had and the new mail. This will allow me to take my time fixing the stairs and getting them in the best condition again. I am going to also put outdoor carpet on them for added protection.

Another thing that my brother did for me was fix my fence gate. I don’t have a picture of that but he put in a make shift shim by the post and then moved the mechanism down a bit. The gate door now opens and closes super easy. It really was a big help.

I received my motherboard in the mail yesterday too! I will be putting my PC back together tonight, as well as get some sanding done on the other two projects. It will be a busy night again but worth it. I have been getting quite a bit done lately. While we are still here I can update you on the Apple Jack. It is currently fermenting in my pantry. It has been one full week as of today. Once it slows up a bit I’ll re rack it into other carboys, and add some potassium bicarbonate to the mix, to stop the fermenting process. I will let it sit a bit longer after that and let it clear up. After that the only thing left to do is the freeze distillation.

Here we are, the end. I’m glad you stopped by. I hope you have enjoyed my projects and hectic life! I’ll see you again tomorrow ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Tuesdays SMH…

Hey Everyone!

We had a rainy, rainy day here yesterday. If you know me at all you would know I love rain. It is very calming and keeps me leveled out haha. After I left work yesterday I met my brother right after work and we got to work cutting the tops off of the fencing that I put up yesterday. I forgot to snag any pictures but it looks pretty good. While we were at it we cut a slant in our fence gate, so that it shut easier.

When my brother left I cleaned everything up and just did some paperwork. I had some bills to scan into my laptop and random other stuff. My wife made noodles and meat sauce for dinner, since I was busy doing that other stuff. She had told me earlier that her car was making a noise. This is a bit strange, since her car is only like two years old and has less than 30,000 miles on it. I figured we could kill two birds with one stone, by taking it for a drive and gathering some spring water. We have been buying bulk spring water at Walmart and just tossing the containers in our recycling when they are empty. I wanted to see if we could just refill them. There is a natural spring not far from our house, about 10 minutes away. On the way out I listened, as best I could, to her car for any noises. I didn’t really hear anything out of the ordinary, so I told her it was most likely not a big deal, and that unless something gets worse not to worry about it. If anything it may be related to her air system. Once we made it to the spring I got out and started to fill the container. I quickly realized that to get good water flow we had to have a hole poked in the top. I spilled quite a bit of water all over the ground haha. Once I got it filled and capped we went home. I had the water in the refrigerator and filled my cup. I noticed that the cap didn’t really stay water tight, and was dripping. I had to ditch the whole thing, but I am now going to look for a more reusable container and just get spring water, instead of buying it from the store.

I have a few things that I would like to get done in the near future. I need to purchase a dog collar for my dog. She never likes to go outside, which I think is super weird. We always have to tag team it and push her out the door. If we get her the collar we can put a leash on ad make it easy. I also need to buy that clutch head bit for my tub and get to work on that. I made sure that I had my Dremel the other day in case I need to cut an access hole. I was also going to take my completed taxes to the post office, to ensure that I had the proper amount of postage, but I have since decided against it. I think I’m just going to slap a few stamps on it and hope for the best. I hate going to places like the post office. They are only open for like a half hour after I get out of work and it just costs me time and money. I want that refund asap haha, I have furniture to pay off!

Here at work I have been keeping busy. I am posting a bit early today, because I came in at 5:30am. I will be done with work today by 2:30pm, and wanted to have enough time to post. I pretty much do a completely different job when I cover for this co-worker. She runs a lot of reports on a whole different system. It takes most of the morning to complete, and then I have to attend to my regular networking duties as well. I have to cover for her again on the 15th. By the way the other system I am talking about is a IBM i-Series database and looks like this:ย  SNAG-0002.jpg

It is about zero fun….

**OK so I was going to be putting this post out early, but now its right on time haha. I got super busy at work and it evened out.**

That is all for today, I hope you enjoyed your stay! I’ll see you all again tomorrow. ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

And We Are Back!

Hey Everyone!

I hope you all had a great holiday weekend, if you celebrate Thanksgiving. If you don’t, I still hope you had a great regular weekend!

Lets see, my last post was Wednesday. That seems like a very long time. I had a ton of things going on this weekend and that will continue through the next couple weeks. First things first, We went to my wife’s grandparent’s house Thursday to celebrate Thanksgiving. Her uncles came in from out of town and we had a very nice time there.

Friday we made our way home. My dad and brother came over to our new house and we started digging post holes for the fence we needed to put up around the yard for my dog. The weather was not in our favor this whole weekend. It was mid 30s and raining at some points in time. In total we got all 22 holes dug that day. My wife was inside the house painting a few of the bedrooms.

Saturday and Sunday were the big work days. Again, my dad and brother helped me with the fence. We were able to get everything completely done except for the gate. My brother and I will be building that this Wednesday. (Side note I won’t be here that day to post) So the whole yard at this point in time is finished. There is only one spot where the fence goes that isn’t done. Meanwhile my mother and my brother’s fiance came over to help with the painting of the bedrooms. This made that whole process much faster. We went with four different shades of gray.

As of right now we still have to paint the hallway and put trim around all the floors in the bedrooms. After that, that area will be finished and ready to be furnished. Wednesday my brother and I will help the Home Depot delivery men move and install kitchen appliances, as well as build the fence, like I stated earlier. That will be a big day, with lots of moving and lifting. My wife would like to move us in this weekend but I can’t see that happening yet, since our internet won’t be connected until the 6th and we have one more huge project going on.ย  On the 11th, a Sunday, we are having a contractor come in, who is a friend of my wife’s mother, and knock out a 6 foot section of our kitchen wall. This will ten get a counter top and become a breakfast nook. It will be busy, dusty, dirty, and hectic. I’m a little unsure about it because it is the old exterior wall and its sheet rock in front of a brick wall. We are having an “I” beam installed to hold the weight of the rest of the house, and that part scares me. Once this is all done I will be more than willing to get moved in haha.

I also have to send in this application for a homestead exemption for a $250 tax deduction. It just lets the city know that we will only be using our house as a residence and nothing more. But to shorten this whole post, we have to paint a bit, fence a bit, move some stuff, and make a big hole. I hope everything goes according to plan, and I will have my fingers crossed that whole time. Again I won’t be able to post this Wednesday, and maybe not next Tuesday but that I won’t know until that day.

I hope you have enjoyed me spilling my worries and guts out in this post. It really helps to vent a bit, as well as lay everything out in different mediums. (in my head, online, on paper, etc..) I hope you made the best of your weekend, I know I did. I hope to see you back here tomorrow! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€
