Happenings!

Hey Everyone!

It seems quick, but it is Wednesday already. I’ll take that.

Right after work yesterday I stopped at the post office to pick up my wife’s long awaited birthday gift. It came from Australia and was on back order, but it was worth the wait. She loves it and have been transferring all of her stuff into it. She will be using that bag for a long while.

I have a retired electrician coming over tonight if nothing changes in his schedule. With any luck at all he can quickly get my damn lights working so I can put my 8 seat dining room table back haha.

I did, however, realize that I also have a Masonic meeting tonight. DOH! We took July and August off like we do each year, and tonight it is back on! We are having a degree conferred on a candidate as well. It will be his first degree out of three, his Entered Apprentice Degree. We had two practices over the last two weeks so we should be ready. I hope the electrician is gone before I have to go. 😀

This weekend we have the company outing! I’m looking forward to it, because we haven’t been kayaking at all this summer. We start around 9:30am with that, followed by a catered picnic, corn hole, disc golf, and washer toss. It will be an all day thing and it is the first time that this event has been both men and women as well as spouses. There are over 100 people signed up to come. It should be a great time.

That is all I have for you today! I hope to see you all again tomorrow! 😀 😀

Good Surprise!

Hey Everyone!

Last night I tried working on my lights again, and boy let me tel you it was awful! I tried thinking about what needed connected and where. I tried putting the knob and tube wire that I had to the hot wire from the additional run, and it popped and flashed and I was done. Nope, a whole lot of nope after that. I’m at a loss, as to what to do. I hope to find someone to give me a hand that has a clue about what they are doing. I really don’t want to rip it all out and tear down a wall or my ceiling so I hope I find someone.

Today I got some good news about my current position here at work. I was bumped from a category ‘B’ position to a category ‘A’ position. That starts me off at the lowest rate for that and from there I will get reevaluated at 9 and 18 months from when it starts, to get me to the mid range. From there I can get to the top of my category by merit raise only. If I get to a point where I cap out before I get a new position I believe there is a way to change my job description and open up a new set of ranges.

I just realized today that Monday is Labor Day. I get a nice long weekend! I can use that for sure. I’m not sure about the weather yet, but if it is nice it would be a good idea to work on the cabin. We will probably get together with my family and have a cook out or something. We may just have a quite weekend at home, I’m ok with that too!

That is all for me today! I’ll be back again tomorrow, and after that I’ll see you again Tuesday! 😀 😀

Around the Water Cooler!

Hey Everyone!

Yesterday was a sorry, not sorry day haha. I was invited to go to our other building, by a co-worker to have pizza ate lunch. That is something I couldn’t pass up! 😀 I wasn’t able to post because of it though. 😦

I’m back now though, and the good thing about being around a water cooler vs. coffee talk is that you can have it any time of day haha. So here we are!

Some what of a project summary for me right now would be a few things. I have been roped in to helping a local nursing home extend their network with my co-worker. We went there last night to get the lay of the land. I have spent some time today gathering a list of items that they would want to get as upgrades, as well as drew up their current and proposed network in some free software. If everything gets agreed upon we could be in there getting that project done in a month.

The gas plant project is coming along slowly. I have been ready for a week to do some work for them, and they are in the process of making me a key like I said in an earlier post. I think I have everything I need to map the segment of the network I’d be in and address the gas chromatographer.I really hate that word, it’s to large and complicated haha. Here is the little guy causing all of the issues at that plant:

Here at work we are working on starting out huge ERP upgrade. We are talking a couple milion dollars here. We will be upgrading our current system in its entirety. We are going from a company we have used for over 30 years to a completely different one. It will involve our 4 man department a ton, and will probably take a couple years to implement fully. Yikes! :S

In personal life, I hope to mow the grass tonight. My wife’s friends are coming tomorrow to spend the day and go to the county fair. In the morning tomorrow I’ll be helping build the cabin a bit, I hope to get a few pictures to keep you all updated on that progress as well. 😀

That is it for me today! I hope you all have a great weekend, and I hope to see you back on Monday! 😀 😀

Family Weekend!

Hey Everyone!

We took most of the weekend for ourselves and did what we wanted to do. We started it off Saturday morning by going out to the dam.

12

That picture is from an overlook way above looking at the back side of the dam.We later went on some trails with Everett.

3

We let him get out and stumble around a bit while I climbed up some of the bigger rocks in the area.

4

After the hiking part, we stopped at the beach part of the dam where a Tango race was going on. I didn’t get any pictures there unfortunately. It is a time trial race involving teams competing in swimming, running, biking, kayaking, and orienteering. Our company always has a team in and I really didn’t know it was going on this weekend. It was fun to sit by the beach and watch people getting in and out of the water.

Later that day I needed to scrub out the inflatable pool we bought and move it to a better location. In do so I had the hose on and guess who wanted to play with it? You guessed it Everett.

5

Sunday we started slow and picked it up a bit. We stayed home most of the day. Everett finally reached the top of the couch in his climbing adventures.

6

Once we did get up and moving, I shoveled out all of the lava rocks, that were there for landscaping out grill area. I took two truck loads of rocks, weeds , boxes, and junk over to my parents house. They can use the pavers and things that I brought over. The lava rocks can be used around their fire pit and the weeds I dumped over the bank.

I was antsy to do more but didn’t have the right stuff to do anything, so we went to visit my parents when they returned home from a reunion they went to. It was nice to sit with them and let them see Everett.

We came home for the final time, and watched a movie before heading to bed. it turned out o be a busy weekend, but busy the way we wanted, so that’s ok with us.

That is all from me today. I hope you all had a great weekend, and I’ll see you back again tomorrow! 😀 😀

Around The Water Cooler!

Hey Everyone!

Since I haven’t been taking in any cafinated drinks it didn’t seem fair to post a ‘Coffee Talk’ morning segment. That being said i do now go fill up my water bottle and get to typing! So welcome to the first ever ‘Around The Water Cooler!’ piece. Where I will detail some morning thoughts and cover the happenings of the prior day.

This morning I’m feeling overwhelmed, but at the same time I’m ok with it. I have to call the bank about some real estate taxes and what not, as well as talk to them about mortgage insurance. While I’m not looking forward to that I don’t think it will be a big deal. I also have to learn some more coverage of the operations end of things at work before, well, next week haha. I have to call the pediatrician about Everett’s iron supplement, and look in to how to fix the GC machine at the gas plant that I’m doing on the side. So, sort of a busy Friday. I’d also like to get the grass cut in the yard if at all possible.

On to what we dealt with last night! I wanted to move all of the weeds we pulled from our yard and dump them over the bank behind my parent’s house, then I needed to drop off my car to get fixed up, followed by running to the store for some stuff.

I got home and took our a frozen pizza for dinner since I knew we were going to be a bit busy. The pizza finished and I went to move it form the oven to the counter. The moment I was in that transition Everett decided it was a good idea to run over to the stove door that was down and slam his hands on it! You know where it goes from here. It was a 400 degree oven that he slammed his hands on. Unlike some babies he did take his hands off very quickly and started balling, as most people would probably do. I quickly, but calmly, grabbed him and ran his hands under some cool water. My wife finished up her work day and came down to help me out. We called the doctor and they told us a couple things, we basically already knew. We applied Aloe to his hands from one of our many Aloe plants. It helped him immediately.  While that was going on I gathered those weeds and got rid of them so we could head out the door and get the other stuff done. Once I dropped off the car and made it to the store we picked up a gauze kit to wrap his more burnt hand over night. We have pictures, nothing gross though, so no advisory needed.

12

He has a couple fairly large (for his size) blisters on the palm of his hand, so we put more Aloe on before bed and wrapped him up.

This morning he was back at it getting into everything.

3

Then, since this is how it always happens,  I get this picture sent to me this morning.

4

Everett just got a fresh wrap job and dunked his hand in my wife’s coffee first thing this morning! DOH!

That was my night and while it had some low points we got everything sorted as needed, and we all made it though!

I hope you have a great Friday and weekend! I’ll see you again Monday! 😀 😀

Another Busy Weekend!

Hey Everyone!

We made it through the weekend. Friday We took some time out to weed the major part of our backyard garden. I’m not entirely sure what the purpose is since by the time any of it gets done it might be winter haha.

During that process Everett picked up his mommy’s phone.

123

He is such a dang cutie! He has been picking up on things so quickly. He is learning a ton. He has been organizing things, in his own way. He will take and place items in and on other items. We also have a verified 5 teeth! We haven’t been able to have him show us long enough for a picture, but I promise they are there haha.

Saturday was a huge softball day. In total our co-ed team played six games and took second place. I was their pitcher for each game. As a team we sustained two injuries to a couple of our girls. We had to pick up two different girls along the way, because you need four to play.  My groin injury I sustained during the regular season flared up part way through, so that didn’t feel good. Today my back and everything is not doing well, so I’m taking it easy here at work.

Sunday we headed out to visit my wife’s father again. He was placed in a nursing home during the week. He needs to be placed somewhere that can handle his dementia, and not just another nursing home. But either way he is at least in a safe space. Afterwards we went to a local bar in our college town and had lunch with her mom, before heading home.

On another note season 6 of Orange is the New Black is out on Netflix. I am halfway through and it is decent. It is, so far, at a bit of a slower pace but you can tell the build up is for something good. If you watch it, it is time to get at it!

I hope you all had a great weekend, and I hope to see you back again tomorrow! 😀 😀

Try Again!

Hey Everyone!

Today’s post will just be a catch up, from yesterday. I was able to get the pictures uploaded today so I can share them with you now! 😀 😀

Here is my brother holding his new baby girl:

1

Before we left to go to the family reunion, we stopped at the hospital for a mini photo shoot. My wife will have some pictures out soon.

2

Once we got to the family reunion we had a nice lunch at the pavilion, with family. Here is my wife’s grandparents and mom. You can see the sides of my nephew and Everett’s faces haha.

3

Afterwards we hit the play ground for some fun in the sun.

457

When everyone was hot and sweaty we left and went to that bridal shower. There I only took one real picture and that is mostly because I forgot. Its cool though. We had all of the little kids playing volleyball and it was fun to help them.

9

Sunday, after our ball games, we stopped at my brother’s for my little birthday bash. Everett was sitting with me while I blew out the candles. I had to make sure that he wasn’t grabbing the fire though, he tried.

1011

I was able to hold little Bridgett for a while while everyone was still eating. It is hard to believe that Everett was smaller than this when he was born! 😀

12

While I was holding her the other kiddos were playing with all of my niece’s toys.

That wrapped up my day, and weekend! I hope you have a great Tuesday! I’ll be back again tomorrow, and hope to see you then. 😀 😀

Softball & Haircuts!

Hey Everyone!

This week is slow going as of now.

I have received my order of an ‘All in One’ PC and a fancy laptop for one of our maintenance guys. I am still waiting on a terminal order that will probably take forever. lol

Last night after work we had our first softball practice. It went really well! We had about 10 or 11 guys show up so we ran through a bucket of ball and had some batting practice. We were able to gauge the interest and ability of a few guys that we were unsure of. Everyone hit fairly well so splitting the group into two teams will be a bit tough. I will be the pitcher of the first team, so I pitched to about 7 of the guys. This morning I woke up and my pitching wrist hurts really bad. I’m going to say it was from sleeping on it weird and not believe that it is from lobbing balls haha. 😀

Today we will take our first stab at having Everett get his hair cut at a salon. Wish me luck and cross those fingers that everything goes well. He has had it cut twice before, but by a family member. I will be taking him alone to get him a cut and myself. It is a new salon for me too, as I have been semi-actively been looking for a new spot. this place was recommended to me by a friend so I’ll give it a shot.

If everything goes well we might go for a bike ride tonight. We tried to last night but it just didn’t pan out. I hope we can do something to enjoy this weather tonight, even if it is just hanging out in the yard.

My wife is home with Everett alone for the first time with her new job today. I hope everything is going OK. The last few days she has had her grandma and mom come cover for her a bit, but not today! I think she will do fine. She just wants to manage her phone time around when he is being a pain in the butt lol.

That is all for me today. I’m hoping the week speeds up and then slows to a crawl this weekend, but I know better haha. I’ll be back again tomorrow, and hope to see you then! 😀 😀

Keep On Rollin’!

Hey Everyone!

Last night I met with a guy who helped run the gas plant that needed some IT help. I wan’t able to fix anything last night but I was able to determine what I thought could be done to help. I’m still in the dark on a ton of things that they have going on, but I have a direction for the issue that I saw. They have a machine that measures the amount of certain gases in other gases? I guess? It is pretty cool either way. It isn’t communicating with the PC that runs the software. I believe that they are clearly not on the same network based on their IP addresses and therefore cannot communicate. Coming in late to the game I have no idea how or why this is. I have them calling the company to confirm, and left myself open as a contact for further issues. I hope I can help a few more times.

This morning work as been a bit hectic. I have been tasked with taking care of all of the ‘dummy’ terminals in the shop, since our co-worker retired. Well, its a bit of a mess. I ran around all morning getting the make, model, serial number, status, and location of all terminals and scanners. It was not terribly fun, in any way. I have since entered them in a simple Excel sheet to keep track. It will have to be updated every time we send one out, replace one, or get new ones. After this I’ll run over to our other shop and do the same.

Tonight we will have our first company softball practice that huge softball tournament. I am excited to see if we get a decent turn out. I’ll be pitching so I’ll be sore tomorrow, after pitching to, potentially 20 people. With a bit of luck we can determine who is good at what and who can hit. If we hold a couple more practices before the tourny we should have a pretty darn good team. Our company hasn’t come close to placing and getting a trophy for years now, so it would b nice to bring something back! 😀

That is all for me today! I’ll be back again tomorrow, and hope to see you then. 😀 😀

Amazing (Busy) Weekend!

Hey Everyone!

Back from another great and productive weekend! 😀 😀

Friday wasn’t fun by any means but I did get to cross something off the to do list. After work Friday I picked Everett up from his last day at daycare, went home and started working on our tub. I had to chip, pull, and chisel the old caulking out. That was the worst thing I have done in a long while, even worse than painting our fence. After that it was time to clean and re-caulk it. I tried for the first time the hand squeezed tubes of sealant, thinking it would be easier in that tight space, but I really didn’t like it. I went through 4 of the little things and at the end of the day would have liked more, but that amount at least filled the space back up. So on that note everything is looking good.

Saturday was our super busy day. We woke up, had breakfast and headed to my wife’s mom’s house. We got to her place and cooked out on the grill, fr lunch. Everett was having a great time under the patio umbrella.

1

My wife was invited as a guest to the wedding of her dad’s, wife’s, mother’s wedding. She was also there to take pictures of the event. At the same time I was heading out to my best friends 30th birthday party that his wife threw him. They happened to be the same time and in different directions, so I missed the wedding. I was able to catch up with him and his family for a couple of hours before heading back to the reception on the lake. There they had a beautifully decorated ball room on the ground level over looking part of the lake.

2

The dinner consisted of everything on my plate haha. Keep it short and sweet! 😀

3

Once it was time to leave the reception we stopped to visit my wife’s dad. He isn’t in the greatest health anymore and it has come on all of the sudden. His brother and sister in-law were there too. We hung out for a bit and then stopped back at her mom’s to get Everett. By the time we made it home again it was 10:30pm and we were beat!

As days go, Sunday was next on the list. We had 2 softball games in the middle of the day. In short we won both games pretty convincingly. I pitched the second game until it was a blow out and then we all swapped positions. I hit a big home run in the second game, but other than that a quit hitting day for me with only a .500 average.

4

When I got home I just stayed in my ball pants and mowed the grass, and trimmed the edges. Everett was outside with him mom enjoying the sun and the pool we inflated. When I got finished I just stripped down and laid in the pool. Then the randomness started. We wanted to head back to the local Ollie’s Bargain store to look around. We wanted to get something for the yard. We we did and headed home. More on that in a bit. My mother and wife decided to take the initiative and weed what they could of our massive garden. It is over run with that Morning Glory crap and it is everywhere.

9

So it all looks like that up top

610

They got this back half looking pretty good, but had to stop due to time and lack of room in the truck bed lol. If they could do this for another 3 solid days they could weed all of the flower beds in the front and back yard, if they hustled. 😀 In the mean time I was draining the pool to move it for our big purchase! I was in the background setting it all up.

7

We bought this nice offset umbrella for the yard as well as the bug net, four chairs, and glass table all for $200! 😀 I’m grinning at that price all day. 😀

Lastly a nice look from within. If you look close you can see Everett ‘helping’ in the last four pictures haha. He stood out there with them the whole time, just holding on to the wheel barrow.

8

Once I was done unloading the scraps at my parent’s house, we called it a night and here we are. It was a great weekend I would do it all over again in a heartbeat if given the chance. I hope you all had an amazing weekend as well. I’ll be back again tomorrow for another daily post, and hope to see you then! 😀 😀
