Friday #2

Hey Everyone!

So no ‘Coffee Talk’ this morning. Sorry about that. It was a little hectic this morning, but its calmer now. 😀

This morning was the last day of daycare for our little man, before staying at home with his mama. It is bitter sweet like I have stated before, because we love that he is interacting with others and learning while he is there. On the other hand I know my wife ultimately would love to be raising him. So, it had to be done, even if it may be tougher in some ways. This morning my wife suggested that we get the daycare workers a little something, so I stopped at the local Tim Horton’s and bought them a dozen donuts.

Today after I pick Everett up, I will be re-caulking the tub. I have to scrape the old gunk out and clean it. Dry it off. Then the fun stuff haha. I’ll be using a new to me type of caulk, so it’ll be a test. I hope all goes well, because that type of stuff drives me crazy pretty fast, if things go wrong. If it stays nice out I’ll probably mow the grass while I’m at it.

In other house-ish news. I measured behind my garage, and now know that I can fit a sizable storage shed behind it. I could get away with one as big as 8×13. More realistic I will probably get something about 7 feet wide by 7 to 10 feet long. I’ll then be able to re-stack my firewood beside it. 😀 I’ll probably get a resin shed, and it’ll cost around 600 to 800 dollars, which isn’t bad at all.

Our weekend is packed with softball, a wedding, and my best friends 30th birthday party. I’ll be sure to snag some pictures! I hope you all have a great time this weekend, and I’ll see you Monday! 😀 😀

New Daycare!

Hey Everyone!

Today is our first day back at a somewhat normal routine. The last two days my mother in-law was at our house watching Everett. Today he started his new daycare! We were nervous just because we hope that he has a good experience.

I was maybe a minute late for work, but they don’t mind because they know I start work early all the time and work through my breaks, when I need to. I dropped him off and met some of the staff. They all seem very nice and I like that he will be in a room with other children his age, most of the day. I know including him there are 4 kids in the 1-2 age range. If they all stay at this daycare they will move through the other rooms together.

I made sure to tell them that he is eating using the baby led weaning technique. Which is that he eats real food in decent sizes, that he picks it up himself and puts it in his mouth. Learning theses skills also helps him with chewing and learning how to swallow better. He has been doing it for a few months and has really started swallowing quite a bit of the food that we give him. There are very few things that they don’t want you to feed them using this technique, so that is nice in the way that he can eat what we are eating.

At this new daycare they have a nap time, I’m not sure how good he will be with this right away. We generally see that he is tired and lay him down. We don’t force a nap on him, so we will see haha.

Like I have mentioned before, they are a 100% legal daycare which is very hard to find anymore. This is great, because the staff is trained and clearanced. We are able to claim the expense on our taxes each year, and they have limits on how many children they can have.

I really hope when I go pick him up that he had a great time. When I dropped him off he was very aware that he was in a new place. But he did stagger over to the one staff member before I left, and wasn’t fussy at all. He has his own little cubby for all of his stuff, they also drop notices and things in there for parents to pick up.

In other news I may be working with a local company in the near future on fixing up their network. I still have to call a few more people and get myself some physical access to the building. A person that works there reached out on an alumni Facebook group, looking for help and I responded so that is that. 😀 It would be after regular work hours and i would be getting compensated for my time, so if I can help out I gladly will. It would be nice to pick up some side jobs doing consulting and networking.

That is a bout it for me today. I hope you all have a great Wednesday, and I’ll see you tomorrow! 😀 😀

Letter From Abel!

Hey Everyone!

Yesterday was pretty awesome! After work I picked Everett up from his baby sitter and then picked up my wife at home. We went straight over to another daycare facility, to meet with the owners. We thought they were still running out of their home as well, which is ok, but they recently purchased a building for a legitimate daycare. We met the owner and her husband who run the show together. They have separate rooms for each age group, trained and clearances staff, a clean environment, plenty of state regulated safety measures. As well as a fenced in play area, and a walking path. To top it all off it ends up being cheaper per month then where we have him going now. the only down side is that we can’t switch him until he is 1 year old. This means he will have to wait until May 22nd before he can go there, they don’t have any openings for infants until 2019! The good news is that we have all the paper work filled out and they are willing to hold his spot for May for $50. That is a steal, so we are going to do that tonight as we head out of town for the weekend.

By the time we were done there we were starving and not feeling like cooking dinner. We stopped across the street and got food from DQ. 🙂 After we got home I checked the mail like I do everyday. To my surprise I got a piece of mail from Children International. I was hoping that it was some response from my sponsor child, and it was! I received my first letter written by Abel, the others were from his mom and a CI worker, on his behalf. I also got four pictures of him holding the items that I bought for his family.

Abel turned 10 years old on January 9th of this year and I wanted to get him something for that. In my letter I let him know that the soccer ball and Fanta were his gifts for Christmas and his birthday! The other stuff is for cooking in his home. It is mealie meal, sugar, cooking oil, and rice. He is looking good and seems happy, that’s all I can ask for. I hope he gets a ton of use out of that soccer ball. He likes sports, jacks, and playing with his friends so it should be perfect.

Today on the other hand hasn’t gone so well. :/ I came in early to cover my boss, who is off for the weekend. We have a system in place that grabs a ton of information and compiles complex workflow procedures, and it got unplugged yesterday. It was never properly brought back up, so it never ran what it needed to last night. So since I got here early I tried to re-run it, noticing that it didn’t run. Little did I know that the instructions that I had for that sort of even were incomplete. So, everything I tried still didn’t work and we had a mess this morning. It is just annoying for me to feel like something like that is my fault, even though it really isn’t. I still feel responsible and I don’t like that sort of thing. So I have tried moving past it, but have run into a snag on my other project as well. This isn’t turning out to be a great Friday so far. Good news is that it is Friday and soon I will be able to get the heck out of here for a while! haha.

Like I stated before, even thought the weather has turned on us,we are going back this weekend to talk about the house and tax stuff, and spend some time with my wife’s family. We hope to get a lot accomplished and have a relaxing weekend at the same time. I could really go for a glass of her grandfathers homemade wine right about now! 😀

That is all for me today, I hope you all have a great weekend! I’ll see you again Monday! 😀 😀

Bit Of Everything!

Hey Everyone!

I am still unbelievably busy here at work, but I left you with nothing yesterday so I will do my best to get this one out for ya. I’m currently sitting here with two laptops on my desk with wireless mice. That means I have a total of three on my desk, I keep grabbing the wrong one haha.

Last night I had a Masonic practice. We were running over how to conduct a Masonic funeral ceremony. They are performing on on Saturday. The diseased or his family can request one, before their funeral. It is a nice, short program that honors the brother for the final time before he is laid to rest. The main thing is you want to have your lines and movements down, so you don’t mess up in front of their grieving family and friends. The practice is a very dressed down event held at the lodge. We have a pot of coffee going and just run through anything people want to work on for about an hour then head home. there is no real time frame on it other than it starts at 7pm. Some times you show up and no one comes other times you show up and its like a mad house. It really just depends on what you are covering that night.

Everett has had to get a new prescription. They gave him Augmentin for his ear infection, and he just throws it up. Most likely because it is disgusting haha. I remember having to take that and hating it. I don’t think he is allergic, but there is no talking a baby into swallowing haha, we tried!

We are also going to meet up with a different baby sitter either tonight or next week. She may be able to take Everett in when he turns one in a couple months. I believe the mother daughter duo, still operate under the table, but they keep their house up to the current codes set by the state. That makes my wife and I very happy. We have noticed that since we have told and shown our sitter that Everett is on the move that she isn’t using her baby gate?!? Why, we have no idea. I get there and it is down, I pick him up and it is down. If he falls down those stairs, because they didn’t have it up I will make sure every legal action is taken on her. Especially because we have told her and she still ignores it. If that doesn’t work who knows, we will for sure not take him there, as we are already trying to find another. I wouldn’t let it go though that is for sure.

We are going back, for real this time, to my wife’s grandparents house this weekend to talk about putting a house down. If we get the go ahead yes, then it looks like our lives will be changing 100%. Being proactive I have been looking for job openings in that area. I have applied at a local college and a local hospital. Now timing is going to be huge, but it will only matter if we can have a house put down. If he isn’t willing or able then it is just straight up over. But we will know more after this weekend. I don’t want to leave my nice job here unless it is a real deal, or unless they want to double my salary at another place haha. I’ll keep you posted.

That is about it for me today! Back to the old grind stone to finish out the day strong. I’ll see you tomorrow, but it may not be early. My boss is off and I also have another work commitment in the morning, so it may be a regular post. Anyway, see ya then! 😀 😀

What A Day!

Hey Everyone!

Let me run down a recap of the rest of my Monday. I left work early to have enough time to gather my dog’s urine and take it to the Vet for further testing. She had a UTI and I wanted to make sure that it was all cleared up and that she was good to go! To be short, they called back and said she was all clear. Again I took her on the leash and slid a dinner plate under her haha. I scared her a little bit this time so she stopped going. I had to transfer the urine into a baggie because I didn’t have a different small container with a lid. It took some real skill to do all of this, I’m sure you can imagine haha.

I was all ready to head to the Vet and my wife had picked Everett up for his 9 month checkup. The timing was great. I was ready to go, and so was she. We grabbed Everett and headed out. We hit up the Vet first and then headed to his appointment. We made it there with about 30 seconds to spare. The called his name and back we went.

The appointment didn’t really go so well, unfortunately. :/ He only needed one shot, so that was good, but he seemed to be in rough shape other wise. He has another yeast infection on his bottom, and a double ear infection. This after he just got over the Flu. They gave us a referral to meet with an ear, nose, and throat doctor in Buffalo, for tubes. We have time to decide if he really needs them or not, but we may as well get the process started. After the appointment we had to grab some groceries. We hit up the local Wegmans and had some subs there, before shopping for food. That way we didn’t shop on an empty stomach. Everett was having the best time, because for the first time he was able to sit in the cart and see everything.

He is still a bit tiny so we watched him closely but he did great. We finished grabbing groceries and headed home. Once we were back in town we had to pick up his two prescriptions at the local CVS. He needed stuff for his ears and cream for his baby butt.

By the time we really got home, it was about bead time. We unpacked, and put everything away, and that was that.

One thing I forgot to mention, was that Everett also bonked his head at daycare and had a nice bruise on his head. I just told her that he is now crawling and pulling himself up. I did all of this so that she would pay attention to him and make sure he wasn’t doing anything that was going to result in something like that. :/ I guess he pulled up on a toy and was bouncing around, while holding on to it. He fell forward and hit his face. He also got a bloody nose…DOH! I just wish they did a better job at watching him. Sadly there is nothing or no one in the area willing to watch kids this young. So again, our options are more than limited. I feel trapped a bit, because I have to have child care, but the care isn’t up to snuff. This then leads to us not feeling comfortable with him being there for safety reasons, but having no where to go.

We will see how today goes when I pick him up.

That is all from me today! I hope you are having a great Tuesday. I know I am taking some time to chill after yesterday’s all day affair haha.  I’ll see you all again tomorrow! 😀 😀

Winter Is Here!

Hey Everyone!

I’m a bit early with the post today, because I know I will be busy around lunch time today. It is not often that I know when I will be busy, so it is kind of a welcomed thing. Ya know?

I hinted that I may have to use my snow blower last night, but the snow didn’t really start accumulating until late in the evening. That being said I woke up this morning to a ton of snow haha. We still have lake effect snow warnings and watches until mid day today. We went from no snow two days ago to about 11-18 inches. This is pretty typical though where I live, we are just an hour and a half away from Lake Erie and get all the heavy stuff. There was only a two hour delay for schools today even though all the main roads and hills are still covered. We are, mostly, pretty decent at driving in this weather since we see it all the time. For reference I took a picture off of my porch this morning after I already shoveled the sidewalk.

From this picture alone you can see that it was piling back on right as I went. I’m sure it looks like I didn’t do much at all by now haha. This evening when I get home I will for sure fire my snow blower up and give it it’s first real ride. Everything is ready and waiting. The only thing I couldn’t find this morning are my leather gloves but I can grab others. My driveway is long and narrow so the hard part is going to be finding a safe place for the snow to go. I don’t want to hit the house or windows, or throw it on my neighbors driveway beside mine, so I’ll have to be careful.

On another note, I wish I knew that trying to do car seat things in the snow was going to be as awful as it is. I try my best not to fall down the stairs out of the house. Then I try my best to not fall walking to the car. Keeping him out of the elements is hard on top of trying to get him in the car without snow falling on him haha. I guess it is better than pouring down rain, if I had to find a silver lining. 😀  This is when I wish we would have found a house for the right price with a two stall garage. I have been texting my wife when Everett and I are both safely at or destinations to keep her mind at ease. The little girls at his daycare always laugh when I get him inside and pull his winter hat off. His little hat hair is funny.

Where you live have you received any snow yet? Do you at all? Let me know in the comments below, so I can share in your pain or be jealous that you are living the dream in a warmer climate haha. I’ll see you all again tomorrow! 😀 😀

Better Evening & Asgardia!

Hey Everyone!

As you may know our little boy is sick with an upper respiratory infection. This is his third ailment in 5 months. This can be chalked up to bad luck and daycare. He stayed home from daycare yesterday because he still had a fever. Thankfully after being home all day, it subsided and he was able to go back today. He is still very congested and we feel really bad that we can’t do anything else for him. We are just going to continue to be there for him, and suck out his boogers haha. In all seriousness he is coughing up a bunch of mucus and it chokes him, following that he throws up all his milk. DOH! I’m pretty sure that is the recovering stage so that is good to know, but it is physically hard on him.

My wife and I are hoping and crossing our fingers that we don’t get sick again. We have both been sick each time he has, and that is no fun at all. We both have to take off time from work which we can’t really afford to do. With any luck our immune systems will get it together and help us out! Here is our boy last night and this morning. He is still no feeling well, but he sure is cute!

One last thing. I found this while surfing the web, it is a move to start and build the first nation in space. It is out there, no pun intended, but this is a real thing. People are really doing this, and it may not be a terrible idea. Obviously they are a long ways away from a physical location in space, but they have a goal and the backing to get it done. it is called Asgardia, or the Kingdom of Asgardia. They just a few days ago launched their own digital satellite into low Earth orbit. You can read their constitution here and check out their plans. Let me know what you think!

I’ll see you all again tomorrow! 😀 😀

Children International Welcome Package!

Hey Everyone!

Yesterday I got my small package from Children International!

It was really a thick envelope haha. Inside was folder full of information, most of which I already found out via their website.

They sent a somewhat personalized letter, a window decal and printouts of my sponsor child.

I have the decal on my window at work and took the bigger picture for my desk. I was excited to to receive it. Oh one more thing, they sent a pre paid envelope and a structured letter to send. So I was able to send a second letter.

On to the rest of the week! It is jam packed and will kind of suck haha. Tonight my dad ans I are going to visit a Masonic lodge in another state. They are performing a 3rd degree, which is the final one. They have different rituals and they are fun to witness I have heard. Tonight I will find out. It will be a late night though and that is the bad part. The same goes for tomorrow, we have a meeting that will last a little bit, and be a late night yet again. Today at work I found out that my one co-worker will be off on Thursday and I’m the lucky one that gets to cover her YAY! So after my late Wednesday I’ll have to be to work super early the next day. This puts a strain on my wife to get our baby ready and to daycare by herself. To follow Thursday we have Friday, which is also a little wonky. My wife has to drop her car off at the garage in the morning so we have to get up earlier than normal. She is going to drop the car off and take me to work and the baby to day care, again all while having her own stuff. It is going to be a busy week that’s for sure. I won’t be able to pump out a post Thursday, since I’ll be cover for my co-worker.

I know that was a fairly long and informative paragraph but it stresses how much runnin around I have this week. haha

For now I’m just going to finish the day off strong and get things done here at work.

I’ll be back again tomorrow, I hope to see you all then! 😀 😀

Gearing Up For The Baby!

Hey Everyone!

It is nice to report I had a fairly relaxing night last night.

I got home from work and it was raining. I wasn’t able to do anything outside so I was pretty limited. I was able to re-rack my, what is no hard cider, into other carboys. This allows the cider to settle and clear up, as well as get the dead yeasty stuff out. Sometimes it can mess with the taste if it is left in there too long. The next time I rack it it should be pretty clear, and I’ll take pictures. I’ll be putting it back in the bottles that the juice came in and freezing it. I hope it all works out because I really want it to work and taste good. It was really easy and it would be nice to make that my ‘signature’ drink in a way. I would like to perfect it a bit, if I like it, and have enough to share with friends.

When my wife got home I went with her to get ice cream, and that was the highlight of my night haha. We ran to Dairy Queen and she got a Peanut Buster Parfait. After that we just watched a few episodes of Shameless and went to bed.

My wife and I are gearing up for the baby, who is still nameless haha. We need to get her a bag ready for when the day comes. Well for that matter I need one too. We are looking to go about an hour and a half away to a better hospital, so we have to be really ready. One of the other things we are in need of is a babysitter/daycare facility, that is affordable. I know most everyone has trouble finding that. I grew up and went to a church daycare, and it was really nice and like a real company. No in this same city there aren’t any except for the over priced YMCA. We have compiled a list of people who baby sit or run a small service out of their home. We have to call them and talk rates and availability, then go see their houses. My brother and his fiance are using one lady about 10 minutes from home who is only charging $20 per day, which is the best I’ve seen. They seem to really like her, so maybe we will too. That is, if she has any openings. With only person watching kids they can only have six at a time by law so that really limits people. So we do have some work to do but it is coming along. Our weekends through May are almost all booked up. We have holidays, masonic stuff, showers, parties, and weddings all coming up these two months.Heck I have to find some time to write up a best man speech. That scares the crap out of me! I hate public speaking, especially when it is in a wedding setting. I was the best man in my good friends wedding a couple years ago and I was shaking, and flushed. It was quick but, I didn’t ever want to do it again haha. Depending on when my wife goes into labor I may be able to drink a little before it, which might help the nerves! If she hasn’t had the baby yet then I can’t in case she goes into labor that night.

If you have any advice about child care options let me know!

How are you at public speaking? Like it, hate it?

I’ll see you all back tomorrow. I hope you are having a good week so far! 😀 😀
