Birthday, Cabin, & Dam!

Hey Everyone!

We had a very busy weekend. It all kicked off Saturday morning. My wife got up and got ready to go visit with her dad and get her hair done. Everett and I were flying solo most of the day.Β  Once the both of us got ready we headed out my niece Rory’s second birthday party! It was pink and Minnie Mouse themed in many ways.

1a1b

She got a nice 6V four wheeler that Everett and the others were all curious about.

2a

Being a bit shy, like he is, he stayed away from most of the other kids. I think a lot of it has to do with the small age difference. It won’t matter in a year but right now they are talking and running around better than him still. He did get some one on one time with that four wheeler though haha.

4

I plopped him down on it twice and pushed the button to make it go for him, while we drove it around in the grass. He seemed to like riding it. Later we headed over to the nearby play ground for some more fun. Here is Everett, who climbed up the stairs on his own, and his cousin Rory.

5

Then my brother Nathan followed Everett through the tube haha. Everett wasn’t sure what to think about that.

6

This was his way of telling me that he wanted to go down the slide.

7

We hit that slide about 20 times. Then just another shot of him climbing those stairs again.

8

My grandparents came down too. They were at our other cousins second birthday party just before and made it down to Rory’s. Everett was trying to put his great grandpa’s cane in his cup holder haha.

9

Here is my grandma holding my other niece Bridget who is just over two months old, and my dad and brother holding Everett.

10

Rory and Everett were on a path right to each other in this picture.Rory tried to kinda hug/kiss him in passing haha.

11

Then just real quick another picture of my baby niece! πŸ˜€

12

Everett and I finished out the night doing some laundry then hanging out at my parents place so they could see him some more.

Sunday we had quite a bit going on. I headed out to camp only for a couple hours, since what my dad decided to do with the ceilings looks terrible. We made progress never the less. My brother’s friend Dave came to help out as well.

13

We added 24 more cross supports to attempt a flat ceiling. This is where we all got mad. My dad decided that we wont’ put the boards flush and that they will just overlap and be rounded. Which is very ugly and we all hate it but he doesn’t seem to care. :/

14

Here you cal see that they are just putting them up and leaving the extra. Why? Again, no one knows. Its ugly.

Later I met with my wife while my mom watched Everett at home, for some pictures. She want to start advertising ‘Adventure Themed’ engagement and wedding pictures. She got a sister of a friend of hers to come down after their wedding to get these taken. I take some behind the scene shots for her to have as well.

The last spot in that tour was at a boat launch where we put them in a row boat and I took the drone up and took some shots from above that I don’t have back yet. We mad it home, had some dinner, and got ready for bed.

I told you we were busy haha. I hope you had a great weekend, I know we did. I’ll be back again tomorrow, hope to see you then! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

What A Fun Weekend!

Hey Everyone!

This weekend was a blast. I mean nothing crazy happened, but it was an all around good time. It really started on Saturday. My wife left in the morning to get her hair done for the first time since having the baby. It was something she really wanted to get done, so I’m glad I was able to watch Everett while she did that.

Once she got home, I packed my stuff and headed to camp. Before I left I stopped at a place that over looks most of my whole city. I had a nice panorama, but it looked weird when I threw it on here.

20171007_105146

Once I got to camp I helped my brother and dad, who got there before me. We brought wood and supplies to the site. Here are the 4″ pieces that we used to cover the cracks of the other boards.

20171007_130105

When we were on the last board, we had to notch it. This was to ensure that it would fit around a stud. I was notching it out with a hand saw when it jumped up off the board and sliced my thumb. It was pretty bad but I got it wrapped up quickly.

20171007_135411

It is a bit hard to do most things with your thumb covered like this haha. I had a glove over it so I would not get dirt and stuff in it. Plus, I was staying the night so I was going to be there a long time.

Anyway, with that set back out of the way we were able to get the pieces up!

20171007_142054

Since we had more boards from the last time, we started work on one of the ends. It gets the most weather so we wanted to cover it up a bit. We are going to, possibly slat shingle the peaks, and cover the cracks with more 4′” boards like the front.

20171007_171443

A couple of my brother’s friends showed up as well as my older brother. They hung around most of the day. But after a while I was getting hungry for that juicy steak I told you all I would get. I threw it down on our grill over some hot coals and let it ride.

20171007_180928

While that was cooking up nicely, my brother’s friend Ben made me a drink. Stick with me as I explain what’s in it. He mixed bourbon and blueberry preserves in an empty water bottle. Once it was shaken together he poured it through a strainer and into my cup. Similarly, he mixed lemonade and club soda and poured that in too. To finish it off he squeezed a lemon in there and here is what we have!

20171007_181602

It was really dang good. I had a couple of those and enjoyed my steak.

20171007_183132

Once everyone left I hung out by the fire until it got dark. I threw a few more logs on because I wanted coals for breakfast.I decided to just roll my sleeping bag out in the cabin and stay there for the night. It looked creepy but it was better than a tent!

20171007_201634

With my head lamp on I started into my new book! I only got a few chapters in before I turned in for the night.

20171007_202237

I’m pretty glad I slept in the cabin because it rained pretty hard that night. Which did ruin my breakfast plans. I had no coals and with the clouds over head it stayed dark longer than I had hoped. When I woke up I packed my things and just headed home. You can see below what it was like on my way out.

20171008_071108

I stopped off to get pop tarts for breakfast and brought them home for my wife. It is a craving she has somewhat often so I figured it was a good choice. We ran around Sunday and got groceries, as well as cleaned up around the house. My mother in-law came down and wanted to spend some time with Everett. That gave me some time to play a few video games. I checked the mail later and was pleased to find two pieces of mail from real people haha. First a card from my great aunt Arlene. It was a “First Halloween” card fro our son.

20171008_132306

The second was a nice thank you from my brother and his wife.

20171008_132440

We closed out the weekend with some Netflix and ice cream. Sounds good huh?

That is all for me. It was a fun weekend and I’m glad I got some time in the woods! I’ll be back tomorrow, see you then! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Birthday, Shopping, Cabin!

Hey Everyone!

This weekend was jam packed with a little bit of everything. Friday was my mom’s birthday. We all met down town and had dinner at a nice restaurant. Afterwards we bought some pie from the same place and headed to our place. My brother’s family had to go early to put their baby down for the night. We stayed and played a couple of games of Yahtzee! My wife and mother did better than my dad and I. Not a great picture but still captures the moment haha.

20170922_210618

That was the end of our night. Saturday my little family took a trip to the city to get a few things. We had some Olive Garden for lunch. I had a nice grilled chicken flatbread. YUM! Everett was very well behaved, and a few people stuck up a small conversation with us. All around good time.

20170923_133431

We stopped at Babies-R-Us to use up a gift card and a returned item to buy a few things. Jordyn bought a few milk storage bags and what not, and the big purchase was a 4Β  in 1 convertible Graco car seat!

20170923_185721

He will be able to use that seat until he doesn’t need one anymore. It converts all the way to a backless booster seat. It will take a little time to get used to but it is really nice. And just think we really got it for free, can’t beat that.

My wife then wanted to visit Kirkland’s for the first time. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it is a very nice home decor store. Most things are reasonably priced, and fairly well made. She had thoughts of getting a few little things there and then going to Hobby Lobby, but that didn’t quite pan out. I’ll tell you why. She, almost instantly, found a stand that would fit perfectly in our house. It was a large item and we didn’t think we had a way to even get it home. I eventually broke down and went and bought a set of ratchet straps and put it on the roof haha. Once we got it home, it really did transform the space. Check it out:

signal-2017-09-24-172418

So there you have it, we now have a coffee bar! It fits so well. Just before we left to come home we stopped at Barnes and Noble. I was looking to start a Tom Clancy series, then realized that his books are bible large and that may not be the best for me. If you follow my Instagram you will already know what I got, but I did get something different. I picked up a book from an author I know I like. From the author of the Legend, Prodigy, Champion trilogy, comes my newest edition, War Cross!

20170923_210234

I’m not sure how much time I will have to start reading this book but I really want to. I enjoyed that named trilogy above tremendously.

Sunday my dad, brothers, and I went to camp to work on the cabin some more. It is really starting to take shape as a real structure. They already had siding on the back, as shown:

20170924_111053

We were going to be working on insulating the inside as well as putting up some rough cut boards on the front. Here is what it looked like before we started:

20170924_111359

Here are the 40+ rough cut boards we had to carry into the woods:

20170924_111529

My mom came out and helped my brother put up some insulation:

20170924_151741

20170924_151745

My dad and I measued and cut each board to fit around the roof rafters and screwed them into place. We are later going to rip a few boards into four inch wide pieces to go over the gaps between the boards. We will also draw a straight line along the bottom and cut the bottom straight, but that is for another day.

20170924_154136

We may end up staining it in the future so it lasts longer but we aren’t sure yet. For now we want it boarded up and ready for winter. We will have to frame the door a bit more and finish the two ends. While at camp I cut a bunch of kindling from the scrap rough cut wood. I was going to go home and start putting wood in my storage container. You know the one I made a little while ago. Here’s how it looks!

20170924_175002

I really like the way this piece turned out! I can’t wait to have a few fires, and not have to trudge through the snow to go get more wood.

That rounded out my weekend. My baby has his four month check up today after work and I have one of my best friends from high school coming over to meet him after. I haven’t seen him in a while so it will be a good time catching up a bit.

That is all for me today, I hope top see you all back again tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Gearing Up For The Weekend!

Hey Everyone!

If you haven’t checked it out yet look at my last post. It was a fun app review that got a little longer than expected haha.

I wanted to make a second post just as a life post.

Today is my mother’s birthday, who knows how old she really is. I’m sure she wouldn’t mind people forgetting haha. We are going out to dinner tonight at a local place called the Plaza. It is a little dive, that has good food and great pie. We may head back to our place for further conversation and possibly board games. We really aren’t sure though since we both have little kids. Anyway, Happy Birthday to my mom! πŸ˜€

Tomorrow my little family is going on a day trip to the city to use up some remaining gift cards to Babies-R-Us and a few other places. I’m sure we will get some grub and hit up the book store while we are there. I have been wanting to read a book lately, but really need it to be a good one. I’m a crappy reader and need something that really gets me hooked. I’m leaning towards looking into the series of Jack Ryan, written by Tom Clancy. I see the first one in the logical series to start with is Without Remorse. If I can find it I may just have to purchase it. πŸ˜€

As far as Sunday, I currently have plans to go with my dad and brother to work on siding the cabin. We also have some insulation, but I think we need to seal the floor and what not first. Either way It’ll be fun to get back at it. If we can have it closed up before snow fall we will be grinning!

Big success I was able to mow my lawn finally haha. I know you were all wondering!

I’ll be sure to get some pictures and report back on Monday!

See you then! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Zac Brown Band & Cabin Build

Hey Everyone!

I am back from my long weekend!

for those who may not know, my wife and I went to a Zac Brown Band concert she won tickets to. Β The concert was Thursday evening at 7 pm, at Youngstown State University. I guess it was the first time they have ever had a concert, and people we having a blast.

The band Midland was the opener and play for about an hour. Here was our view, mind you it was still the opener and daylight so the stands weren’t full yet.

mher (2)mher (3)

Here is a quick clip of Midland from Thursday playing there no. 1 hit ‘Drinkin’ Problem.

The rest of the night was awesome. The Zac Brown Band is great live! They even covered Bohemian Rhapsody, I didn’t expect that. It was looking like rain and that held off. It was a ton of driving for one night but it was all worth it.

mher (5)mher (4)mher (6)mher (7)

The pictures aren’t great but I wanted something haha.

Here is a clip of their super famous song ‘Chicken Fried’.

You can really tell the crowd was into it. If you make it to the end you can see that they continue to just do awesome instrumentals for a whole minute.

We made our way home and arrived after 1 am. We went right in, thanked my mom for watching our son and hit the hay!

Friday was spent relaxing. Saturday and Sunday I went with my dad and brother to get some more work done on the cabin. We started on the ends first.

Here is my brother adding the first piece of plywood.

mher (9)

We have arch gaps to fill at the top but the windows are all in and framed.

mher (13)

The other side done the same, with the bigger window framed.

mher (14)

Here is just a shot of the outside.

mher (11)

Next we worked on framing in a couple of french doors that we no longer needed. They will not be doors at all, rather just tall windows with builtin blinds!

mher (10)

Here is where they will go, one on each side.

mher (16)mher (12)

Here they are mostly framed in, and I figured I should get a picture now or else I would forget. The first is with the blinds closed then open. It should be a great feature for light and style.

mher (1)mher (18)

It is moving right along. Once we frame in the real door, and cover the two ends we are going to seal it up. We are going to caulk the floor gaps, and use expanding foam around the roof and walls. Next will be to insulate the inside all while having the other people putting on the siding. from there we are going to put Amish rough cut wood on the front, and plywood the inside. Then it is just a matter of building the interior, as far as bunks counters, and moving in furniture. Still quite a bit to do but it should be ‘livable’ for a weekend by first snow.

I had a jam packed weekend, but it was all a good time. I hope you all had great ones as well. If you get a chance check out my last post. It is a short film review that I was requested to do. Kinda neat actually.

I’ll see you all again tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Very Busy Weekend! (Photo Bomb)

Hey Everyone!

I hope you read (looked at) my last post on the 4th of July parade in my hometown. There are a ton of cool pictures of the groups that participated this year. This post however is about the whole weekend in general! It was jam packed with things to do.

Lets see, where to start? Well Saturday we went to my wife’s friends wedding and the wedding venue was a doctors house that overlooked Lake Erie! It is absolutely gorgeous. Take a look:

20170701_162205

They had a lady there playing the violin during and after the ceremony:

20170701_162212

Here they did a unity “wine box” it is really a time capsule that they will open on their fifth anniversary:

20170701_162231

Here you can see their nice birch wood wedding arch:

20170701_162238

20170701_16224620170701_162524

We were shuttled back to our car, by the Flagship Trolley. Funny story, we read the invitation wrong and didn’t realize there there was no parking. So we drove to the venue only to park outside of a long housing complex, and walk to the wedding. We were running late as is, from taking Everett to his grandma’s house, and now we had to walk to the wedding! We almost didn’t make it. The trolley driver was nice enough to bring us back to our car after the ceremony.

20170701_16370620170701_163713

After the ceremony we hung out and had a bit of a cocktail hour. My wife and I left a bit early so she could pump. We got to the church for the reception about an hour early. Once she was done we went inside to get seats only to find out that they didn’t have enough! So we left. There was no way that we were going to stand and eat or stay that late anyway so we went back to her mom’s to have dinner. There we had baked chicken, baked potatoes, and beans. Her grandparents came over and held the baby for a little bit.

20170701_19041220170701_191853

Before we left her grandpa had me take a picture of how high the corn is there. He was saying that it was much higher than where we live, and to show people the picture. So here ya go haha.

20170701_193453

Another thing was that he gave us a bunch of onions from his garden. After we got home I cleaned and ‘processed’ them, and got them in the refrigerator.

20170701_22174320170701_222608

So ended out Saturday! Sunday, like most summer Sundays, we had a double header in softball. We did win both games but they took forever, due to lack of defense on all teams part haha. Each game was like 30 something to 30 something. That makes for a long seven innings, but we managed to win them both. I think I went 9 for 11 with two home runs so I’ll take it! Immediately after softball, we ran home and got ready to go kayaking/canoeing. We put in by the Kinzua Dam and floated around for about three hours.

20170702_15480620170702_15514520170702_16171720170702_161719

This little guy was riding on our cooler the whole way haha:

20170702_16353720170702_164734

When we were all done we converged at my parents house for some pizza and wings and called it a night. I was exhausted, so it didn’t take me long to pass out.

Monday came right on schedule, and I woke up and got ready to go to camp. We were clearing some paths and working on the cabin a bit more. I was the one with the four wheeler and chainsaw clearing the paths. I only got one good before and after picture because I was in the zone haha.

20170703_130414Screenshot_20170703-141927

That was one of about four or five. My cousin, dad, and brother were back at the cabin putting in a framed wall with a window, and the only interior wall for the bedroom:

20170703_14002520170703_140042

You can see the window in the background of the second picture and the interior wall that will have a little shelf. After the cabin I gt home just in time to cut the grass and shower before my wife’s brother, sister in-law, and their baby got into town. They came for the fireworks that night, and stayed for the parade and picnic on the 4th. The only picture I have from the fireworks is of Everett wearing adult ear phones haha.

20170703_213515.jpg

I don’t thing his was impressed lol!

The next morning was the parade, again check out my first post dedicated to the whole parade. We met up with my aunt and uncle, their kids, and their kids kids haha. There were 17-20 of us there total. This parade was bigger and longer, because all of the Shriners came to this parade, and had a huge picnic in our area after. My grandfather, dad, uncle, and cousin are all Shriners and Zem Zem Hornets. You know the little yellow cars in my video. I think I will be joining this October so stay tuned for that! I love the Shriners and what they do.

After the parade we headed to my parents house for a family picnic. There were seven kids there and six or so of us younger adults, as well as all of our parents, so it was pretty big. We cooked burgers and hot dogs on the grill and had a ton of great food. Here we have my cousins little girl and my brothers little girl. They are a day apart in age, how cute!

20170704_143407

I was able to sneak a somewhat candid shot haha. I don’t like being that guy who takes random pictures so I only got one lol.

20170704_150331

My brother and two cousins played a combined 15 games of Kan Jam the rest of the afternoon. If you don’t have this game you are really missing out! It is super fun, if you are any good with a Frisbee.

20170704_154240

The goal is to get to 21 points and beat your opponent by 2 points. You take turns throwing a Frisbee to your teammate on the other end, and they help you hit it in the top, or on the side for points. If your teammate helps it hit the side its one point, if the thrower hits the Kan on their own its two points, and if your partner hits it in the top its three points. It you throw it in the top or that slot on your own its game over.

That was the end our our super busy weekend! I hope you enjoyed the holiday and the nice weather, I know we did! If you made it to the end of the post, let me know what you all did this weekend, I’d love to hear about it. Thanks for reading! I’ll see you tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Weekend Update!

Hey Everyone!

I hope you have enjoyed the hot weekend! But we are back with another weekend update, brought to you by Monday. πŸ˜€

Saturday morning I woke up and met my brother at my dad’s house. We got everything we needed to go work on the cabin for the day. We had some stuff out there already which is nice, that way we don’t always have to keep carrying everything through the woods all the time. We got to camp and started working on the floor. Here you can see my brother cutting a notch in a floor board:

20170610_103743

Since the cabin is being made by complete amateurs it isn’t square. That being said, each piece needs a little TLC, to fit correctly. Here my brother is marking the part that needs to be cu down a bit:

20170610_112553

We had my brothers dogs out there with us. They are zero help. haha. They like to watch what was going on and play in the creek. My dad brought one of his dogs, but he got attacked in a way, by the big black dog, so he stayed in the car. I felt bad for him, he is scared often but he loves coming out to camp, and wasn’t able to enjoy any of it. But on the bright side he ad a couple nice car rides!

20170610_123221

Here we are finally done for the day. We could have worked much longer, but the problem with having no electricity and a limited amount of batteries is that they will eventually die. :/

20170610_125832

We have three more boards to secure to the floor then we can frame the remaining three walls. Once that is done it is off to the races. We can get the door and windows in, as well as add the outside walls. It will come together quickly, and be a real place to stay after that. We will continue to work on the inside as well.

Sunday was a hot hot hot day to play softball, but we got it done! It got to about 92 degrees of just beating down heat with a clear sky. Like normal, we had two games. We won the first one and lost the second one, but we weren’t upset because we were just out played. In other news my boy Everett was able to come down to the fields for the first time in his life. Here you can see my mom feeding him:

Cale (1 of 6)

And again burping him πŸ˜€ :

Cale (2 of 6)

After the games my wife wanted a couple more pictures to commemorate the experience. So even though I look awful here they are haha:

Cale (5 of 6)Cale (6 of 6)

Later that night we had some homemade Stromboli for dinner and finished the night off with some ice cream. Much to my surprise I weight myself again for the first time in a little bit and look what I saw (pardon my gross feet):

20170611_124614.jpg

For the first time in my ‘eating better’ diet I am under 200lbs! Woo! That is awesome. I’m still doing basically no exercise other than softball and the occasional pushups. I am just eating healthier and having better portions. It is a great feeling.

That was my weekend! I hope you had a great one too. I’ll be back again tomorrow. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

We Made It to Friday!

Hey Everyone!

Back again with another daily life post. Here comes the weekend yet again. Lets see, what do I have planned? Well, today my wife’s Dad, an his girlfriend are coming down to see our baby. I’m not sure if they are bringing their baby or not. I’m not sure how long they will stay. I doubt I’ll even see them before I get home from work.

Oh backtrack to last night. I met my co-worker after work and swapped out the tires on his old truck to mine. They are a bit bigger and makes the little Chevy S-10 feel a bit more like a truck. On the down side as we were swapping them out, my dad text me asking if we could swap vehicles haha. I never got to enjoy the bigger tires fully before trading vehicles for good. 😦 It was a bit of a sad moment. We swapped so I could have back seats for the baby, and he needed something to pull a small trailer and a 4-wheeler, so it made sense. Don’t get me wrong I also love having a car. It is a 2010 Ford Fusion. It is a big change from what I am used to but It is great. I feel confident that we can take family trips with it and have more room than if we had taken my wife’s compact SUV.

On to the weekend!I think we are getting back into the swing of things with the cabin build Saturday. We took some time off due to weather, my brother’s wedding, and us having a kid. But it is now time to get cracking on it again. As we progress I’ll be sure to take more pictures. It will be super awesome to finally get it done and camp out in it. We have wanted a place ever since my parents sold our old camp. To know we built this cabin with out own hands is an unreal experience. Lets just hope it doesn’t fall down for the same reasons haha. If it comes out looking remotely close to how we thought it would that counts as a win in my book.

Some time this weekend I should have an estimate on custom bookcases for my attic. I found a guy who would do it for me, and hes really good. His work looks amazing, and I think his price point won’t be able to be beat. Once that room starts coming along I’ll share more about that as well.

Sunday we will have a couple softballs games, I’m hoping in the morning. The forecast is calling for good weather, so I hope to have my wife and baby boy come down together. The fields are located on the sides of an old air port landing strip. This means that it is a giant parking lot. If he gets fussy or she gets antsy they can go for a walk. I hope my brother’s wife and baby will be there too. I’m not sure who we play this week or what type of games we will be in for but we will do our best and that’s enough for me.

The baby is sleeping a lot during the day and staying up a bit more than we would like at night. We are working on getting a routine put in place to get him to sleep better during the night. If you have any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated. πŸ˜€ Hes not very fussy normally, but he has his moments, who doesn’t. Everything else with him is going well and we can’t be more pleased. Next weekend we will try going to my work’s company picnic. It will be the first real test of travel and public places. Fingers crossed.

I hope you all have a great weekend, and I’ll do the same. I’ll see you all again Monday, well unless I decided to go to my mom’s cousins funeral that day. Then see ya Tuesday! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

How Busy Can One Man Be? (Pictures)

Hey Everyone!

Back again on a dreary, Monday. It is colder than it was all weekend and still rainy. That being said there were a lot of things being done this weekend. I’ll quickly go through them, since I have a few more pictures than I normally do.

First up I got what I could out of my frozen cider! It was a little more than 2 liters. This is what I expected from 2 gallons of cider. I wish it was a bit clearer, but its not bad. I had some and it is definitely alcoholic haha.

Saturday we were up nice and early and going to get some work done on the cabin. We put the rest of the roof up and they did a few more floor boards without me and a wall frame.

(Below) You have my little brother, trying his best to attache the roof, without sliding off of it. You can wee how wet it is.

(Below) My dad and older brother are probably in a discussion about that piece on the right going up a certain way. It was nice that my older brother could come up. he works second shift and his sleep is all messed up.

Later after I left I went home and took my wife to Olive Garden for dinner, then strolled the mall.

On our way back, we passed a dinner that I always want to make time for and never do. I asked her if she would want to go the next morning (Sunday) for breakfast, and she said yes. We got up and got there about 8:30-9:00am. It is a small place but with great food.

You can see the walls were decked out with old pop cans and signs.

The tables are are covered with a glass sheet, but have cards, records and ads from old magazines under it.

Here is just a shot of how small it really is. That is the kitchen there in the middle.

They also had some memorabilia, that boarded on the creepy haha. It was displayed liek this in a few spots. with old toys and dolls.

Here is the store front, and you could guess that it sits right on Rt. 62! Go figure.

To put it in perspective, here is what is directly across the street.

It was a good decision to stop there for breakfast. Later that day my wife’s grandparents made the trip and came over to see us. We went and looked at teh local dam, which is a huge tourist attraction. Later we headed to Applebees for a less than satisfying lunch.

After they left, I followed a thought I had had for a while and bought two Roku Express thingys, for my TVs.

They were super easy to set up and after restarting my router I connected just fine. Everything is fast and responsive. We now have three network enabled TVs in our home. My office is becoming complete haha. I also have a futon mattress being delivered Thursday! I’m very excited.

I hope you all had a great weekend, and hopefully better weather! I’ll see you all again tomorrow. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Cabin Build & A Mishap

Hey Everyone!

I am feeling much better than I was on Friday.

Saturday was busy, busy, with us heading out and starting a cabin build. My brother and I met at my dad’s house at around 10am and gathered what we needed. From there we stopped at Lowes for some lumber and we were on our way by 11am. Progress by picture….now:

Once we found our spot we had to square things up and dig post holes. This took the majority of the time. We ran into every tree root and rock in the ground, I promise. Here s my dad trying to get a rock out by hand.

We made three sections like this one. 12′ across and 10′ deep. The cabin will be 24′ with a 6′ porch, as long as we don’t constantly change our minds. Here you can see my brother trying to dig a hole, with the help of his two Great Danes.

Like I said before we made three of the same sections. Here are two of the sections. Don’t mind that the posts are all messed up. They aren’t set in the ground or squared at the top.

Along the way we met this little buddy!

Here we have all three sections up and squared at the bottom. We still haven’t set the posts because if we have to move them in any way or dig beside them we still can. The creek is off to the right, where the porch will face.

Since we strayed away from making a 40′ cabin we had a few boards left over. We used them to straighten up the top of some of the posts. My brother and dad want rafters, to help with making the roof, but I think it is a terrible idea. The standing room will only be about 6′ if they do. One or two would be fine for stability but I think they should just make gable ends and run a ridge beam. That would make the standing height over 8′.

Here is just a picture I took riding on the back of my brother’s 4-wheeler, after we were all done. I went to cut firewood for home, only to realize that my chain was all jacked up. I had to use my chainsaw to get a few roots in the post holes, and I must have chewed it up on rocks. :/ ( A little muddy)

When it was all said and done, we left around 5pm

After our jam packed Saturday we wanted to go out again Sunday but my dad wanted to watch his NASCAR race. Sunday was spent around the house, until the worst thing happened. We filled our bath tub for the first time only to realize that our overflow doesn’t drain into a pipe, or that our waterproof seal isn’t water proof! We had water from the second floor all the way into the basement. I called a plumber this morning to make the official call about what happened, even though I’m sure it is one of the two things I stated. Still here at about 1pm I haven’t received a call from them :/

On a better note I will be having our final pieces of furniture delivered on the 23rd of this month! It will be a good feeling to not have to worry about tracking huge packages for a while.

I hope you all had a great weekend. I know I did, up until last night haha. I hope to see you all back again tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

OH! By the way, I have had more views these past two months, than I had all last year (Starting in May) so eight months! That’s awesome, thank you all so much. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€
