Monday Photo Dump!

Hey Everyone!

Welcome to the start of the week! We did quite a bit this weekend. Friday we went to Pizza Hut with my parents for dinner and Everett was being a normal goofball.

321

Saturday morning we headed back to the cabin. We are hoping to have the beds in before the start of the hunting season. We added stairs to the front and added boards to the ceiling. Some of the wall pieces are missing, because they are all pieces we have to cut to a custom size.

This area will be the bed room, with bunks on the right and left.

This next one is looking from the kitchen area to the bedroom. We have that half wall up to divide the room.

While I was at camp my wife’s two friends came into town. One of them has a little three month old. We got ready and went to the county fair for a few hours.

Next is a must have golf cart. Just sayin. πŸ˜€

Towards the end we lowered Everett’s stroller and he passed right out!

21

Sunday we went out to visit my wife’s dad. He has been in a nursing home for a little bit now. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s a while ago and can no longer live on his own. It is pretty sad because he isn’t very old. He remembers us and Everett and loves holding him.

22

We were able to meet with his wife and their kid Remi and take him to the courtyard. The kids ran around like crazy.

232425

The lady in the wheelchair is Lois. She has sort of been watching over my wife’s dad while people aren’t around. She came out with us and loved seeing the boys.

26

Everett and Uncle Remi are playing here with some cars on the little bench.

27

Later to round out the day and make the most out of it we met with her grandparents and brother’s family for lunch. It was at a very nice golf course in the area. They have great food and service.

28

If you have your volume on you can hear Everett slurp up his noodles haha. if you look close you can even see his top teeth! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Once we got home, we got in our comfy clothes and watched some New Girl. Everett has been looking though his legs so my wife was doing it too and he was laughing hysterically.

29

That was our weekend! We did a lot and it was, like always, worth it. I hope you had a great weekend too! I’ll see you all again tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Donation, House, & Family!

Hey Everyone!

I’m not feeling great so I’m going to keep this one real short.

Over the weekend my wife and I decided to downsize a little bit. We went through our closets and drawers and got rid of a ton of clothes, shoes, ties, etc. I was able to get four full garbage bags of stuff from my clothing alone. When we were done we took the items to the Salvation Army drop off site up the road. I like the feeling of less clutter and not letting the material good have such a hold on me. I also love the idea of someone else having the opportunity to get real use out of the things I was no longer using.

20180325_191203

Sunday we went back to my wife’s grandparent’s house to meet with a guy from the township about the land he would like to give to us. It was a simple meeting, nothing really important, but what would come next is having the land surveyed and deeded over to us. That is when things get real and money gets involved. We are still waiting on the final costs and to see if we get approved but it looks like things are heading in a good direction. Of course, that leaves us both scared of what will come if we move forward but anything worth doing will have some risk involved I suppose.

On the way back we got a call from my parents saying that they were visiting my aunt, who just happened to live in between our drive home. She was celebrating with family for for 86th birthday. This is the same place where we had our large family reunion. She recently lost her husband and see,s to be doing well. Everett got to meet his cousin Olive ,who is pictured on my aunt’s lap, for the first time. It was fun catching up with some family.

20180325_162005

This morning I woke up very stuffy and not feeling the best. I know it is just sinus issues that are making me feel like I’m swimming in my own head but it does make it hard to concentrate haha. I’m going to try my best not to get sick, and stick it out.

That is all for me, I hope you had a great weekend, and I’ll see you tomorrow! (Unless I do in fact get sick haha) πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

What A Fun Weekend!

Hey Everyone!

This weekend was a blast. I mean nothing crazy happened, but it was an all around good time. It really started on Saturday. My wife left in the morning to get her hair done for the first time since having the baby. It was something she really wanted to get done, so I’m glad I was able to watch Everett while she did that.

Once she got home, I packed my stuff and headed to camp. Before I left I stopped at a place that over looks most of my whole city. I had a nice panorama, but it looked weird when I threw it on here.

20171007_105146

Once I got to camp I helped my brother and dad, who got there before me. We brought wood and supplies to the site. Here are the 4″ pieces that we used to cover the cracks of the other boards.

20171007_130105

When we were on the last board, we had to notch it. This was to ensure that it would fit around a stud. I was notching it out with a hand saw when it jumped up off the board and sliced my thumb. It was pretty bad but I got it wrapped up quickly.

20171007_135411

It is a bit hard to do most things with your thumb covered like this haha. I had a glove over it so I would not get dirt and stuff in it. Plus, I was staying the night so I was going to be there a long time.

Anyway, with that set back out of the way we were able to get the pieces up!

20171007_142054

Since we had more boards from the last time, we started work on one of the ends. It gets the most weather so we wanted to cover it up a bit. We are going to, possibly slat shingle the peaks, and cover the cracks with more 4′” boards like the front.

20171007_171443

A couple of my brother’s friends showed up as well as my older brother. They hung around most of the day. But after a while I was getting hungry for that juicy steak I told you all I would get. I threw it down on our grill over some hot coals and let it ride.

20171007_180928

While that was cooking up nicely, my brother’s friend Ben made me a drink. Stick with me as I explain what’s in it. He mixed bourbon and blueberry preserves in an empty water bottle. Once it was shaken together he poured it through a strainer and into my cup. Similarly, he mixed lemonade and club soda and poured that in too. To finish it off he squeezed a lemon in there and here is what we have!

20171007_181602

It was really dang good. I had a couple of those and enjoyed my steak.

20171007_183132

Once everyone left I hung out by the fire until it got dark. I threw a few more logs on because I wanted coals for breakfast.I decided to just roll my sleeping bag out in the cabin and stay there for the night. It looked creepy but it was better than a tent!

20171007_201634

With my head lamp on I started into my new book! I only got a few chapters in before I turned in for the night.

20171007_202237

I’m pretty glad I slept in the cabin because it rained pretty hard that night. Which did ruin my breakfast plans. I had no coals and with the clouds over head it stayed dark longer than I had hoped. When I woke up I packed my things and just headed home. You can see below what it was like on my way out.

20171008_071108

I stopped off to get pop tarts for breakfast and brought them home for my wife. It is a craving she has somewhat often so I figured it was a good choice. We ran around Sunday and got groceries, as well as cleaned up around the house. My mother in-law came down and wanted to spend some time with Everett. That gave me some time to play a few video games. I checked the mail later and was pleased to find two pieces of mail from real people haha. First a card from my great aunt Arlene. It was a “First Halloween” card fro our son.

20171008_132306

The second was a nice thank you from my brother and his wife.

20171008_132440

We closed out the weekend with some Netflix and ice cream. Sounds good huh?

That is all for me. It was a fun weekend and I’m glad I got some time in the woods! I’ll be back tomorrow, see you then! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

College Ball, Pig Roast, & Camping!

Hey Everyone!

I’m back after a nice long weekend. It was a bit cold the first two days but we made the best of it!

Saturday we met up at my dad’s house, like we planned. People started to arrive around noon, for some good food and college football. It was the coldest day this weekend, which made watching the games outside a bit more difficult, but we managed.

20170902_135801.jpg

My dad’s old referee buddies came and we had ribs and homemade BBQ sauce, it was all delicious. We watched Penn State blow out Akron and Texas get beat out by Maryland. They stayed to watch the Michigan game but I was too cold and went back home.

Sunday was another big day. We got up and got ready to head to my wife’s dad’s house. He was having a big pig roast! We got there around noon-ish, and there were already a bunch of people there.

Here is a shot of our baby boy being held by his soon to be “grandmother.”

20170903_134923

Here he is with his great grandfather. Our boy’s middle name is his middle name. He is a great man with a better head on his shoulders.

20170903_144722(0)

Here is what we were there for!

20170903_141550

Above is a 120lb pig, chickens, and baked potatoes. On the side they boiled five dozen ears of corn from my grandfather in-law’s fields. We stopped off at the grandparents house after the pig roast and grabbed some more vegetables, and what not. It was a late night and we got home just in time for bed.

Monday we had a campfire cookout at our camp. We also got the peaks covered and brought out the door and frame we are going to use.

20170904_12022720170904_13245320170904_135903

We had a little guest in the cabin when we first got there! He ran off fairly fast.

20170904_115921

Like you saw we had camp food, and relaxed around a nice fire to keep the bugs away. We all can’t wait to finish that cabin up a bit more to move stuff inside. It was a busy weekend that was full of family, great food and good football! Can’t beat that.

Coming up this week, we come off of our Masonic ‘summer break’ and have a meeting and initiation tomorrow. I also have to come in early and cover for my co-worker on Thursday.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend, as we did. I’ll be back again tomorrow, I hope to see you then! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Dentist & Garage Finishing!

Hey Everyone!

Today has been really boring and it is driving me crazy. I haven’t really had anything to do here at work. I am not able to order anything new until the beginning of the next month, so I’m sort of stuck. To make it all a bit better/worse I have a dentist appointment at 2pm. So yes, I get out of work and end the boring work day, but at the same time I have to get two cavities filled! Gah, not good. I should be out of there by 3pm, which is when I will have to go pick up my son. With a numb face. *facepalm* I m really not lookinf forward to going to the dentist, or paying the bill.

Yesterday, towards the end of the day, a co-worker of mine dropped a Lowes gift card on my desk. It was for helping his son build a computer, and troubleshooting the issue they were having. It was $50 which is better than the $0 I had before. I decided that I would put it to good use after work. I went home and swapped vehicles with my dad, because I needed a truck. I headed to Lowes where I bought a 6′ ladder and a pack? container? thingy? of R-13 batt insulation for my garage. My framing is 2′ on center and the batt insulation was the only kind that was wide enough to fill those gaps.

Over the next few weeks I want to start on getting the insulation up, and bought. This will be a bit tricky on the ceiling and behind my work bench. I have to detach my bench from the wall that is currently boarded up and move it. Afterwards I have to take the existing plywood off and install the insulation. I won’t be able to put the bench back until the sides are complete since it stick out about 2′ from the back wall. Β Other than those two parts the rest of the walls should be fairly easy. I will try my best not to get fiberglass in my eye and hurt myself in anyway. I can’t guarantee anything though!

Well that is all for me. Depending on how I feel when I get home I may change out of my work clothes and start insulating. I’ll see you all again tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Zac Brown Band & Cabin Build

Hey Everyone!

I am back from my long weekend!

for those who may not know, my wife and I went to a Zac Brown Band concert she won tickets to. Β The concert was Thursday evening at 7 pm, at Youngstown State University. I guess it was the first time they have ever had a concert, and people we having a blast.

The band Midland was the opener and play for about an hour. Here was our view, mind you it was still the opener and daylight so the stands weren’t full yet.

mher (2)mher (3)

Here is a quick clip of Midland from Thursday playing there no. 1 hit ‘Drinkin’ Problem.

The rest of the night was awesome. The Zac Brown Band is great live! They even covered Bohemian Rhapsody, I didn’t expect that. It was looking like rain and that held off. It was a ton of driving for one night but it was all worth it.

mher (5)mher (4)mher (6)mher (7)

The pictures aren’t great but I wanted something haha.

Here is a clip of their super famous song ‘Chicken Fried’.

You can really tell the crowd was into it. If you make it to the end you can see that they continue to just do awesome instrumentals for a whole minute.

We made our way home and arrived after 1 am. We went right in, thanked my mom for watching our son and hit the hay!

Friday was spent relaxing. Saturday and Sunday I went with my dad and brother to get some more work done on the cabin. We started on the ends first.

Here is my brother adding the first piece of plywood.

mher (9)

We have arch gaps to fill at the top but the windows are all in and framed.

mher (13)

The other side done the same, with the bigger window framed.

mher (14)

Here is just a shot of the outside.

mher (11)

Next we worked on framing in a couple of french doors that we no longer needed. They will not be doors at all, rather just tall windows with builtin blinds!

mher (10)

Here is where they will go, one on each side.

mher (16)mher (12)

Here they are mostly framed in, and I figured I should get a picture now or else I would forget. The first is with the blinds closed then open. It should be a great feature for light and style.

mher (1)mher (18)

It is moving right along. Once we frame in the real door, and cover the two ends we are going to seal it up. We are going to caulk the floor gaps, and use expanding foam around the roof and walls. Next will be to insulate the inside all while having the other people putting on the siding. from there we are going to put Amish rough cut wood on the front, and plywood the inside. Then it is just a matter of building the interior, as far as bunks counters, and moving in furniture. Still quite a bit to do but it should be ‘livable’ for a weekend by first snow.

I had a jam packed weekend, but it was all a good time. I hope you all had great ones as well. If you get a chance check out my last post. It is a short film review that I was requested to do. Kinda neat actually.

I’ll see you all again tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

So Many Projects!!!

Hey Everyone!

I don’t have much for today, I have been focused on a few other things. I want to tackle a couple projects, and I’m trying to think of the best ways to go about it all. My wife and I want to make three bookcases that will be permanently on on attic walls. The issue with having someone else do it, is the money. It was quoted to be $1,700, which is probably very fair. I can’t help but think I could do it with some help for cheaper. Of course I could, I wouldn’t be paying for labor. How they would turn out I have no idea, I’ve never done it.

The other thing I really want done is to finish squaring up my front steps with cement. After that I need to paint them and the rest of the porch rail. Following that I want to rip up the existing outdoor carpeting on the porch and replace it, as well as have it go over the stairs. I want it over the stairs for added protection from the weather. These are the two main things I want to get done, that seem to be in reach.

The things that aren’t in my reach at the moment are the waterproofing of my basement that was quoted at about $7,700. That will have to wait until next spring, but it is on the tippy top of our list. We would like to get the driveway paved, and we looked into that too. The quote we got was for $3,000 which is again just out of reach. We have also looked into central air, since our furnace is already set up for it. I think they were in the ball park a a couple thousand as well. I think we would only need the outside unit and a new thermostat. I would like to insulate and board up my garage. I ran the numbers and that would be about $650. Lastly I would like to have our new fence painted the same red as the other fence and out deck. I have no idea what that would cost, but it would be cheaper to do on our own.

So with all of this swirling around in my head, on top of caring for a newborn, I’m a bit lost on where to begin. It is good for me to write this all out, and I’m glad I am. I just haven’t been able to worry about finding other content for today.

Real quick though, we have a Masonic degree being conferred tonight, that will be fun as always. This Saturday we have our company picnic, at a water park, and will be bringing baby Everett. Sunday will be filled with more softball. Hopefully we will have the weather we desire and make a great time of it all!

That’s it for me today. I hope you are enjoying your hump day and I’ll see you tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Weekend Update!

Hey Everyone!

I hope you have enjoyed the hot weekend! But we are back with another weekend update, brought to you by Monday. πŸ˜€

Saturday morning I woke up and met my brother at my dad’s house. We got everything we needed to go work on the cabin for the day. We had some stuff out there already which is nice, that way we don’t always have to keep carrying everything through the woods all the time. We got to camp and started working on the floor. Here you can see my brother cutting a notch in a floor board:

20170610_103743

Since the cabin is being made by complete amateurs it isn’t square. That being said, each piece needs a little TLC, to fit correctly. Here my brother is marking the part that needs to be cu down a bit:

20170610_112553

We had my brothers dogs out there with us. They are zero help. haha. They like to watch what was going on and play in the creek. My dad brought one of his dogs, but he got attacked in a way, by the big black dog, so he stayed in the car. I felt bad for him, he is scared often but he loves coming out to camp, and wasn’t able to enjoy any of it. But on the bright side he ad a couple nice car rides!

20170610_123221

Here we are finally done for the day. We could have worked much longer, but the problem with having no electricity and a limited amount of batteries is that they will eventually die. :/

20170610_125832

We have three more boards to secure to the floor then we can frame the remaining three walls. Once that is done it is off to the races. We can get the door and windows in, as well as add the outside walls. It will come together quickly, and be a real place to stay after that. We will continue to work on the inside as well.

Sunday was a hot hot hot day to play softball, but we got it done! It got to about 92 degrees of just beating down heat with a clear sky. Like normal, we had two games. We won the first one and lost the second one, but we weren’t upset because we were just out played. In other news my boy Everett was able to come down to the fields for the first time in his life. Here you can see my mom feeding him:

Cale (1 of 6)

And again burping him πŸ˜€ :

Cale (2 of 6)

After the games my wife wanted a couple more pictures to commemorate the experience. So even though I look awful here they are haha:

Cale (5 of 6)Cale (6 of 6)

Later that night we had some homemade Stromboli for dinner and finished the night off with some ice cream. Much to my surprise I weight myself again for the first time in a little bit and look what I saw (pardon my gross feet):

20170611_124614.jpg

For the first time in my ‘eating better’ diet I am under 200lbs! Woo! That is awesome. I’m still doing basically no exercise other than softball and the occasional pushups. I am just eating healthier and having better portions. It is a great feeling.

That was my weekend! I hope you had a great one too. I’ll be back again tomorrow. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

So We’re Building a Cabin

Hey Everyone!

We have had quite a bit of random weather this month. This week is no different. It has been snowing for a full two days, but the weekend is forecast to be 50+ and sunny. With that being the case my brother and I are going to start work on a cabin at our dad’s land. We have posts, but I’m not sure if we are using them or if we are going to put it on skids. I guess ultimately it is up to my dad, because it will possibly effect his property tax. My brother and I are thinking that we will do a 24’x24′ cabin with at least 8′ walls. We will just used 2x4s and frame everything. The floor will be some sort of higher end OSB, and the walls will be insulated. The exterior walls will be covered with OSB, and covered again with rough cut wood from the Amish. For the interior walls we would like to use a mix of leftover lumber from various other projects, some painted, chipped, dark, and light. If we don’t have enough we will just board it up another way. I would like the roof to be vaulted, they may thing differently, but either way it will be covered with metal roofing. We have an old wood stove that we can bring up and pipe out, so that will be nice. We are situating it just off the creek and would like to have a porch facing it. My brother would like it to be done by the middle of May so that we can use it for his bachelor party, but I’m not sure I see that happening. The only reason I say that is because sometimes my family drags their feet on things, other times they cut corners they shouldn’t. It will take multiple trips to camp and the hardware store. We would only really be able to work on it on nice days and on the weekends, which really limits us to about 15 weekends. Again, if they are snowy. Either way when it it done, if we get it done correctly, we should have a place to call our own up there. We can camp there, and stay for hunting, so we don’t have to wake up super early and drive out.

While I’m out there I would like to cut some more wood for my bushcraft shelter and maybe work on the walls of that as well. I would like to take a truck load of wood back to my house and split it for firewood, next year. I really would like an axe of my own but I don’t have one 😦 I know if I I find a decent head that I can have a handle made and the head hung by a friend of my cousins. Looks like I’ll be hitting up some flea markets and garage sales later!

Today at work we had a lunch for a retired employee. This is customarily what they do. The retired person gets a gift up to a certain dollar amount and a luncheon. It is a nice way to honor them and the years of hard work they gave to the company. It is just one of many perks of working here.

I hope you are having a great Thursday, and I hope you have a better Friday! I hope to see you all back tomorrow! Feel free to like, comment, and share my blog posts, if you feel so inclined. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€
