So We’re Building a Cabin

Hey Everyone!

We have had quite a bit of random weather this month. This week is no different. It has been snowing for a full two days, but the weekend is forecast to be 50+ and sunny. With that being the case my brother and I are going to start work on a cabin at our dad’s land. We have posts, but I’m not sure if we are using them or if we are going to put it on skids. I guess ultimately it is up to my dad, because it will possibly effect his property tax. My brother and I are thinking that we will do a 24’x24′ cabin with at least 8′ walls. We will just used 2x4s and frame everything. The floor will be some sort of higher end OSB, and the walls will be insulated. The exterior walls will be covered with OSB, and covered again with rough cut wood from the Amish. For the interior walls we would like to use a mix of leftover lumber from various other projects, some painted, chipped, dark, and light. If we don’t have enough we will just board it up another way. I would like the roof to be vaulted, they may thing differently, but either way it will be covered with metal roofing. We have an old wood stove that we can bring up and pipe out, so that will be nice. We are situating it just off the creek and would like to have a porch facing it. My brother would like it to be done by the middle of May so that we can use it for his bachelor party, but I’m not sure I see that happening. The only reason I say that is because sometimes my family drags their feet on things, other times they cut corners they shouldn’t. It will take multiple trips to camp and the hardware store. We would only really be able to work on it on nice days and on the weekends, which really limits us to about 15 weekends. Again, if they are snowy. Either way when it it done, if we get it done correctly, we should have a place to call our own up there. We can camp there, and stay for hunting, so we don’t have to wake up super early and drive out.

While I’m out there I would like to cut some more wood for my bushcraft shelter and maybe work on the walls of that as well. I would like to take a truck load of wood back to my house and split it for firewood, next year. I really would like an axe of my own but I don’t have one 😦 I know if I I find a decent head that I can have a handle made and the head hung by a friend of my cousins. Looks like I’ll be hitting up some flea markets and garage sales later!

Today at work we had a lunch for a retired employee. This is customarily what they do. The retired person gets a gift up to a certain dollar amount and a luncheon. It is a nice way to honor them and the years of hard work they gave to the company. It is just one of many perks of working here.

I hope you are having a great Thursday, and I hope you have a better Friday! I hope to see you all back tomorrow! Feel free to like, comment, and share my blog posts, if you feel so inclined. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Valentines Day!

Hey Everyone!

*I now have over 200 followers! Thank you all so much.*

So yesterday was the infamous Valentines Day!

My wife and I didn’t plan on really doing anything special, because most times it involves gifts and trips and what not. We managed to have a great night with out buying more than dinner. Right after I got out of work we hit up the local Olive garden and had a great dinner. The wait time was only 25 minutes without a reservation, which is amazing! She ordered some shrimp scampi pasta thingy, and I had the braised beef and gnocchi. It was the first time I ever had that meal and I was very pleased. After dinner we took a stroll in the mall, and did some window shopping. Later, after we were home, we turned on Netflix and watched 51e44741671e4f80ad0dfaeb8e6af0e9 Finding Dory.51e44741671e4f80ad0dfaeb8e6af0e9Β  I kinda have to say I like Finding Dory better than Finding Nemo. It was a quite, calm way to end the evening. We had a very nice evening. Let me know what you guys did for Valentines Day. I don’t care you you ate pizza alone, or flew to Paris! Let me know πŸ˜€

Back to reality today, I had to come to work haha. I have just finished up setting up two new PCs for replacements. The one is going to our company president, which is scary in itself because he is the big cheese, and is awkward in general. lol The other is for the manager of the maintenance department. Which is another fairly high up guy. He has been fighting to keep his current PC, buuuut it has been seven years! He needs to give it up.

I have also been trying to keep up with understanding my insurance. With my wife being pregnant she is going to the doctor a ton. She is being bombarded by EOBs and bills. I have been trying to help figure it all out. I have talked to our HR girl a few times and she has been really helpful. I have to get my wife set up on the web portal and build her a profile. It is really neat. Through the web portal you can set who your doctors are and they have a complete list of what you have paid and to whom, as well as what you owe. Once I get her set up tonight I bet we will both see things more clearly. After that it is all ARK Survival Evolved for me πŸ˜‰

That’s it for today I hope you have enjoyed your time here. Remember you can subscribe to my blog via email from my home page. Please feel free to comment and like this post for more content! I’ll see you again tomorrow, have a great Hump Day! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Hey Everyone!

Last night I went to a viewing. Our company nurse’s husband passed away on Friday. We all knew it was coming he had lung cancer for a while and fell into a coma Thursday. It is always a weird feeling for me to go to a viewing, sometimes because it can be awkward talking to the family members that you don’t know and other times because the realization of a dead body in the room freaks me out. Sometimes, like last night, I can’t look away from the deceased. Hopefully, rarely do we have the opportunity to see someone like that. It is remarkable how, most times, they look like they could just wake up and be walking around the room. I value the time I had with him while he was alive, no matter the scale. I also value the somber time, of seeing them for the last time, before they are physically gone for good. As I have gotten older I feel like I have accepted the fact that we will all die ,and although it still scares me, I am able to meet death as a friend rather than an enemy.

But, enough about that. The rest of my night was lazy. My wife and I watched a few shows. and she gave me some early Valentines goodies. I should have taken a picture but it completely slipped my mind. She set up a spot on the table with all of my favorite snacks and had little tags with sweet things written on them. Speaking of Valentines Day, my wife and I are going somewhere tonight just to hang out. It will get us out of the house, since we don’t have a lot of extra cash we aren’t really doing anythingΒ  on a large scale. So we will spend most of the evening with each other, doing whatever.

In video game news I started playing ARK Survival Evolved.

*Just got unbelievably busy*

And we are back. ARK is a frustrating but fun survival game. You build a character and are placed on a beach and you have to survive. There are dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures that you have to watch out for, all while you are trying to make tools find food, and water. You will die, a lot! Once you get the hang of it you will be off and running.

*I just tried to upload a video and it was taking way to long F that*

Go here: to see the trailer. It really is fun.

I have completely lost my train of though and this post has taken way too long to complete.

I hope you have a great Valentines Day! My wife and I will do the same, c-ya again tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Fun Saturday! (Guns)

Hey Everyone!

I hope your weekend was enjoyable.

I’d like to skip right ahead to my Saturday. I was going to help my cousin pretty much scam the Army. I guess they have this thing where the Army will pay you to deliver household goods and pay you based on the weight in the trailer. He is going to be moving some furniture later, but it wouldn’t max the trailers weight specs. (Meaning he would get less money) He concocted a pretty not great plan. He needed help loading 90 bags of concrete from Lowes (80lb bags) He was then going to go weight his trailer, get a slip saying it was max weight, then return all the concrete. (Yes we had to unload them again back onto pallets) It came out to be like 7,000lbs of concrete. Lowes wasn’t very happy either, as I’m sure you could imagine.

After that whole big thing, we picked up my brother and my other cousin and shot a bunch of guns. We are members to a sportsman’s club in the area, and shoot there when we can. My one cousin collects guns so he brought five, I brought two, my brother brought two, and my other cousin brought one. So with ten guns we had quite the field day.

Here is my cousin trying to sight in his rifle. I say try because he was unsuccessful. There is something wrong with the way his scope was mounted that it couldn’t be adjusted. You can also see my other cousin’s AR-15 and a few hand guns.

Here is another shot, this time with my brother in the background also sighting in his deer hunting rifle. The hand gun in that blue case is my brother’s 357 Magnum. It’s shiny haha.

These two here are mine. The bigger one is my Glock 21, it is a .45 ACP. The smaller one is the one I carry often. It is a Bersa Thunder .380. It was the smallest gun we had there(Size and Caliber). It is super slim and fits in my waistband nicely.

Here is again my cousin’s AR and his M&P Shield .40. This is the one he carries. I would love that gun for myself because it is a much higher caliber than my .380., and almost as (physically) small.

This last picture is a WWI gun. It is by far the oldest one we had there and it is awesome. It is an old 1911 .45 caliber. My cousin told me the back story, I’ll butcher it, but try telling you anyway. It was made just as WWI was ending, and didn’t see combat then. It then went to WWII and saw some action, as well as the Vietnam War. From there it was bought by someone and traveled to the Springfield Armory and got a new slide. I can’t remember what was scratched off in the picture. My cousin got his hands on it because the guy that eventually ended up with it is literally afraid of guns and didn’t want it in his house.

We went to my brothers house after and played Cards Against Humanity. It is fun with 9 people! We had some drinks and some laughs, then it was back home.

Sunday I laid around and did nothing productive, and I loved it! I played all my games and did some house work but never had to put on real pants. That is my gauge on how well you relaxed on a weekend, by the number of times you had to put on real pants. haha

That’s all from me. I hope to see you back again tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Money and Firearms

Hey Everyone!

I hope you have a a great week. I have realized that I need more money to complete some of the things I want to…hmmmm. I was just thinking earlier today that it would be nice to insulate my garage and put up OSB on the walls. I ran some of the numbers and found out that it would be close to $600 to get the supplies. While I was at it I priced out a few things I can put on a Christmas list πŸ™‚ I found things like a miter saw, circular saw, cordless drill, reciprical saw, and a table saw. Then I wondered where I’d put it all. This lead me to find some plans online for peg board storage on the walls, and hanging bins for hardware. Again bringing me back, full circle, to having to get the walls insulated and finished. DOH! I hope I find $1000 in an envelope laying on the ground today haha. I know everything takes time and patience, but waiting comes hard for me. For instance, I need a newer car for toting around a baby, but in order to do that I have to pay off the furniture I bought and sell my truck most likely. I would love to just go sign the papers now and deal with it, but I know I should wait until my head is above water.

In other “news” I went an picked up my concealed carry permit: (They make you look like a serial killer)

I thought on and off about showing the picture for a few reasons. First of all there is a ton of information on there, as you can tell by the parts that are blocked out lol. another reason being that it is fairly personal in nature just as an item. and lastly because some people may not agree with certain laws and things dealing with firearms. I don’t mind that you know I was born on the 16th of July, and that I’m 28, I think? or that I have brown hair. But as you can see they list everything. Here in Pennsylvania, there are extensive background checks, before you can even renew one of these bad boys. I had to wait about a month before I could even go pick this up. As you can see I get it for self defense as it is listed there, but also for the simple things that come with it. With this permit I am able to carry my gun in my car, hidden under a seat, it can be loaded in the car, and I can wear it in my waist band. They are just simple pleasures associated with it. In Pennsylvania, you can carry them everywhere except court facilities, schools (K-12)(1,000′ away), some state buildings, federal buildings, detention facilities/mental hospitals, and any private property that it is forbidden. It sounds like a lot, but it isn’t if you think about it. On a normal day how many of those places do you really visit? Yes, schools often f you have children, but unless you are a teacher you would only be there at most an hour out of your day, or less. I could carry everyday and only have to take mine off at work. I can get groceries, go out to eat, go shopping, and hang out around the house and be just fine. One other exception is set in place for “first class cities”, in my case there is only one in Pennsylvania, and that is Philly. It is based on population only and is again for safety more than anything. That is my quick little informational excerpt, on some laws. That is about it for today!

I have been a hunter since I was 11 and interested in guns my whole life. Let me know your experience with firearms, of any kind, if any. Feel free to start a conversation in the comments below. I know this subject scares some for good reason, and others are indifferent. *The only thing I won’t allow is negative comments forcing any agenda, pro gun or otherwise.* If you don’t like firearms and the laws, that is fine just convey that information like an adult, and in a good mindset. I hope you all have a great weekend, I’ll be getting dinner with my wife after work and hoping to relax all weekend! (Good Luck) I’ll see you all again Monday! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Random, Nerd Note

Hey Everyone!

Welcome back, I’m not sure if I have much to write about today lol.

I do have this big dumb plotter printer in my office haha. They replaced it with a new one down stairs for our engineers and for what ever reason wanted to keep this one for a bit. I think they want to fabricate a print chatcher like the one you see on the bottom of this printer. (the cage looking thing) We really don’t have a place for it so my network admin wheeled it in to my office yesterday. I have the smallest office so he thought it would be funny….20170209_124736.jpg

Other things that I did today…hmmm. Oh, I found out how to download custom ringtones to my NEC IP Phone at work. Just your typical office phone, here is mine, it is a NEC DT800:

I first had to set up a TFTP Sever on my PC. For this I used a free program called Solar Winds, it sets up a TFTP-Root directory in your C:\ drive. Anything that you want to transfer out via TFTP needs to be in that root folder. I went online and found a few bits of music and things to test it out. We found that we could use Audacity , a free program, to cut the audio clip, but it didn’t offer the settings that we needed. After failing a ton of times my co-worker and I figured out that if you use another free program called Switch Sound File Converter, you can set the audio file to the right settings. They had to be 8 bit, under 256KB, ect. From there we put the file in the root directory and hopped over to the phones. TO download it you have to set your download address, which is the IP of your machine. Next you have to set your protocol to TFTP so it knows to look for your TFTP-Root folder. You then proceed to the download option and type in the filename. Once that saves, all you have to do it set the download to be your active ringtone. It sounds like alot but if you have the file ready to go all you have to do it grab it.

I don’t really have anything planned this weekend or tomorrow. I doubt I will just get a free weekend to relax and hang out lol. Something is bound to come up. It always does.

Oh one last thing my concealed carry permit is in, I have to go to the Sheriff’s office to get it. I need to find time to do it though because they are only open until 3:45pm and I don’t get out of work until 4:30. DOH!

I hope you are all having a great week! I’ll see you again tomorrow. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

I Remembered!!

Hey Everyone!

Back again on another rainy “Hump Day.” Too many times to count this winter we have had all the snow melt and get hammered with rain.

I want to let you all know that I remembered to get pictures of my furniture! I was and still am proud of myself for that haha. Here we go:

This first one is of one of our two end tables in the living room. (Don’t mind the old couch or wires, we haven’t got the new ones yet and meh mess.) I love this flooring by the way, it is a very heavy duty laminate that looks like hardwood. I love it.

This is just a good picture of the top of the other one. My wife doesn’t remember picking one with the lighter part on top but when our other furniture comes I think it will look just fine either way. I’ve left the majority of the decorating to her. πŸ˜€

Moving upstairs, we have our almost complete bedroom! This is the bed frame that we got with one of the two matching nightstands. (I’m not sure why but one came yesterday and the other should be here today.) We also have a TV mount on the wall that I think is stripped out so that will be for another day.

Opposite the bed we have our six drawer dresser. It matches just like everything else and for now we have our old TV on it connected to my wife’s laptop. The Coaxial cable doesn’t reach over there for our local stations so we just use Wi-Fi and Netflix.. πŸ˜€

Here is just a closer picture of the dresser. You can see that they have the top two drawers lined in this fabric. By the plant are a few of the felt pads I have been using. They are dark so they don’t stick out as much, if at all.

We are really happy so far with all of the furniture that we have gotten from, everything as come without any dings, dents, or other issues. It is taking some time to get it all though. Our couches won’t be here until the 23rd of this month. Thankfully we have old ones for the time being or we would be sitting on the floor haha.

Today at work I spent the morning fighting with a large network printer. It wouldn’t send scans to individuals e-mails. I hate printers more than anything in this world. They never just do what they are supposed to do. You can always bet that they won’t work when you need them to. I ended up fixing it by using the IP address of the mail relay server instead of the DNS name of the same damn server….I know most of you don’t understand that, but think of it like having two names for one thing and most of the time they work interchangeably, except when dealing with a printer. GAH! The rest of the morning I rewired my co-workers office. He was complaining that he couldn’t find a surge protector, so I cleaned his whole area up and did some cable management. What did I find in the process, you guessed it his surge protector lol.

That is how my past 24 hours have been, pretty decent! I now have three PCs here at work running data for the search of ET as well. πŸ˜€ I hope you all have a great day and I’ll see you back again tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

What A Monday!

Hey Everyone!

I left work a bit early yesterday, to get my furniture together and in place. I sadly don’t have any pictures, for an OK reason haha.

Everything that was supposed to come did, and it filled my porch! I got home and drug everything into my living room. I took the three boxes for the bed frame upstairs to the bed room, left the two boxes with the end tables downstairs, and was left with a huge box containing the dresser. I decided the best thing to do would be to clean the floor in the bedroom, roll out the rug, and get to work on the frame. It was very simple, to my surprise, to put together. The pieces were bulky and it was a bit tricky to get the rails in since they have to go in both ends and I’m only one man lol. I got it together and had to turn the whole thing around. DOH! Bad planning on my part.

I went down stairs and thought to myself “How am I going to get this dresser upstairs?” The box was wider than my stairwell, and I figured it was in pieces in the box waiting to be assembled. Wrong! I opened the box and to my surprise again, it was completely ready to go and heavy as all get out. I left that until later.

I quickly got moving on the next task, the end tables. They again were simple, the hardest part is opening the box and trying not to get Styrofoam all over the place. I assembled both of those tables in about an hour and had myself a half time beer. It taste great, like I expected.

So now I’m sitting in my living room staring at this big dresser and decided to text my brother, to see if he would come help me. Go figure yesterday was his first day back on first sift at work! He wouldn’t be free to help me until her got home from work, picked up his baby, and ate dinner with his fiance. So while I was waiting I did remember to take a picture of my tote storage! I know you are all excited. Here it is:

The five closest gray totes are empty and at the end we have our Christmas tree and other things that won’t or don’t go in totes. This fixture was already here but it was a cluttered mess. Up top we have extra flooring for our dining room and living room,as well as replacement tiles for our bathroom. It makes me feel much better knowing that we do have some room for stuff, since we are having a baby in May.

My brother came over and we went ahead and took all the drawers, which made the dresser a bit lighter in weight. We then carried it carefully up the stairs, so we didn’t chip any of the paint on the wall. We got it in the room and went back down to get the drawers. Once they were in we head up to Lowes to grab adhesive felt for the bottoms of furniture. I have been worried this whole time that our nice floors were going to get all jacked up by all this new stuff. He dropped me back off at home and I went to town putting those felt pads on everything. By the time I was done it was about 8:30 and I forgot to take any pictures. I may remember tonight so stay tuned!

That was my exciting night!

Thank you for stopping by, I really appreciate it. Since I have talked a lot about storage, let me know in the comments below what you use in your house as storage. Let me know if you like your current setup or not, as well as what your dream storage system would be! I’d love to see what you all do. I’ll see you all tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

What Did Your Weekend Involve?

Hey Everyone!

I had a pretty busy weekend, fun but busy. I am posting a bit early today because I am leaving work at noon. We are having our bedroom furniture delivered and I don’t want to be up until 11pm putting it together so I’ll do it during the day. πŸ˜€

I’ll skip right to Saturday. I went to my brothers to set up some tote storage in his basement. Check it out:

This is one of the two racks that we made. (That’s my brother) We made the big cuts to the plywood at my place with the table saw then brought it all to his house.

This is one of the four shelves we made. We cut the 2×4’s in his basement with his circular saw. He used left over wood from tearing apart his enclosed porch.

We finally got them up and together. He is going to fill that corner gap at a later date and maybe make one more.Β  For the time being it works well.

I couldn’t leave without seeing our work in action! We grabbed some of his totes from the attic and brought them down. Not too shabby if you ask me. πŸ˜‰

Sunday my wife and I went to get groceries (God, I can’t ever spell that word), and while we were there I was inspired from the night before. We have a tote storage system in our basement but it was covered in junk, and not organized at all. I took it upon myself to change that. I bought 10 totes of my own from the store and got to work. I cleared everything I could and burnt what could be burnt. I am now left with six spots for totes and the rest are filled with Christmas decorations, and extra flooring.

While we were shopping I also grabbed some plumber’s caulking. Where our baseboard meets the wall, under our new kitchen pass through, is a gap for one reason or another. It looked like crap. I was able to fill it with a white silicone mixture and for never doing it before it looks great. I got quite a bit done with weekend.

Later that day of course we went to my parent’s house for the football game. I’m disappointed that the Patriots won only because now they are tied with the Cowboys for Super Bowl wins haha. We had about 10-12 people over for the game, so it was cozy in one room. We had homemade pizza and other little snacks. It looked like it was going to be a blow out there for a little while, and then I think Lady Gaga changed all that! After the first half it was a whole new ball game. The Pats scored 25 unanswered points to come back and tie the game. That’s pretty insane. The Patriots won the coin toss in over time and marched down the field and won the game with one more final touchdown. The Falcons had a chance to make it a two score game and didn’t capitalize, shame on them lol. The Pats made history in the fact that no team has ever won from a deficit of 14+ points, ever in a Super Bowl. Tom Brady of course went on to get his third SB MVP award, and his fifth Lombardi trophy.

That was my weekend, what did you do? Feel free to let me know in the comments below!

I’ll see you back again tomorrow, and I’ll let you know how my furniture turns out! C-ya πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Nerdin’ Out & the Super Bowl

Hey Everyone!

We made it, it is yet again another Friday. Yet again, another end to a tedious work week.

I did manage to get some excitement this morning. I got a text from our network admin here at work at about 7 am, saying that the internet was down for the whole company. If you aren’t sure what that means in the big picture I’ll explain. We still were able to work on internal projects, but anything that had to deal with other companies we couldn’t do. We did still have email since is it routed through another service, not hosted here on site. So, at 7 am I had to come in to find out what was wrong. It was a puzzle, I had to figure out what was stopping traffic and get it working again. This all while not having any coffee yet lol. From the information I was given it seemed to be the companies physical firewall., but when I came in it looked like it was operating just fine. I double checked what worked and didn’t work at my desk and went back into our server room. I noticed that our physical web filter was blinking a weird orange color and investigated. I came to the only conclusion that I could, I pulled the plug. I reset the web filter and everything instantly connected fr everyone. We then ran into a smaller, yet still significant, issue. We host mail relay on one of our services and even though everything was connected it still wasn’t relaying. This regarding things like when you go to scan something to yourself from a printer. We then got on the server where it was hosted and reset the service and we were able to watch all of the hung emails disappear. They were then being sent in real time and all was good in the world.Β  Well at least, you know, where I work haha. Now that I have completely confused most of you and made you lose interest in this post, lets switch gears.

This weekend We are going to focus on moving our books from my parents house and over to ours. This will help my parents clear out the upstairs of their house, and get us a little bit more moved in. I think while we are there Saturday we will start a pile of things that can be donated or thrown out, and a pile of things that we still want and need to get moved at some point. It will be a long day and will be very boring. I don’t want to do it at all but it has to be done. Sunday is the big game, the Super Bowl. Again although my team isn’t in it it will still be fun to be with family and watch a football game. I’ll let you know how it is later.

I found out today that my bed frame, dresser, and end tables are being delivered to my house on Monday! I also bought the nightstands to match yesterday because they were back in stock. One more thing to add to my credit card bill haha. when it is all said and done we will have furnished the dining room, living room, the babies room, and our bed room. So in the grand scheme of things it will be worth it. We will furnish the attic and the other bedroom as we go along and use them more. We would also like to finish putting up the quarter round trim on all the floors on the second floor. I still have to measureΒ  the other rooms before I can do that completely. The list never gets shorter, it only changes haha.

I hope you have all had a good week, and have a great weekend. Let me know if you have any plans for the Super Bowl, I’d love to see what other people will be doing. Let me know who you will be routing for, or if you just want to see a good game. C-ya Monday! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€
