Bohemian Rhapsody On The Ukulele?!?

Hey Everyone!

It was super rainy and cold yesterday. It could have been a nice evening to relax with some coffee, but I had some things to do. Right when I got home to gathered the things I needed to return to Lowes, and picked up a thin sheet of paneling for the back of the cubby storage. I was able to sand most of the edges to my liking, so they would be ready for staining whenever I have the time. Here is a quick picture of the back being weighted down to allow the glue to dry in the right spots, as well as the firewood rack.

Then my hands got super cold, kind of like they are right now! I’m nor sure why but my office is freezing. Anyway I was able to get in side and clean up. I slipped into some comfy clothes. I received my motherboard in the mail yesterday, or the day before, and needed to get it back in my case. Here is a shot of the motherboard being secured to the standoffs.

There was good and bad news about the whole thing though. As you can see in this picture I was able to get it up and running with Windows 7 Ultimate.

On the other hand it had no drivers and I didn’t have my factory CD with drivers on it. I tried loading them on to my flash drive and popping it in the USB ports….buuuuut I don’t have those drivers either haha. The only way I can get them installed is via the optical drive (CD drive). I had to come to work to do it because I don’t have anymore of them at home. I can tell you that I think I have them all, I just need to take them home and install them. The awful part will be installing all of the crap back on my drive. I had multiple games and programs. That is the way it goes though so I can’t be too annoyed. ๐Ÿ˜€

My night will be full trying to get everything back up and running well. If I do find any time I might think about re racking my Apple Jack, or playing my Ukulele. I have been trying to learn how to play Bohemian Rhapsody, by Queen. It sounds weird but it is super fun. Here take a look at, who I think is the best Uke player around, playing that exact song!! Awesome!

That will be what I leave you with today, I hope you take the time to watch that video. I’ll be back again Monday with an update from the weekend! C-ya then. ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

So Many Updates! (Pictures)

Hey Everyone!

Back again from a busy week night! I set out to get a few things done last night and with the help of my dad and brother we got them all done.

Somewhat simultaneously, we worked on all of these projects. The first one pictured is the big one. I really wanted to get to work on the cubby storage for the baby’s room. We had to make it on the floor so we had access to all sides at any given time. I used the drawings from yesterday as reference.ย  And , well, here it is:

I assembled the whole thing with the two long pieces of lumber that I bought. I fashioned them together with wood glue and my nail gun with 2″ brad nails.

You can see that I have weight on the tops, and for good reason. The bottoms ofย  three of the vertical sections are glued only. There was no other way to attach them, and I didn’t feel comfortable trying to toe nail it in the side.I have talked to a few people about it, and they have suggested if it becomes a problem that they make small brackets that could help hold it all together. I may look into that. The other thing that I think I’m going to do is return the lumber from the other project and get a panel that will fit the back of this to keep it sturdy. You can see the table saw right beside it, that is keeping it up perfectly.

One of the other things we accomplished was getting our ‘wedding tree’ planted. For our wedding we had a tree that we both put soil and water in. It was in place of a candle or sand. Well we lived at my parents house for two years after and it didn’t do well at all. I don’t think it’s dead but it isn’t looking good haha. We wanted it planted at our first home and now it is. We hope that it will grow and recover, but who knows. Ifย  you are curious, it is a Japanese Maple.

Another big one was, getting our mail issues sorted out. Again you know I didn’t want to be rushed to get my steps fixed. So we went ahead and put in a new mailbox! It was the one that we used for cards at our wedding. My dad had a treated post, and we dug the hole with a post hole digger. We have it close to the house so it will never be a big hassle to get the mail. We didn’t want it by the sidewalk, because we didn’t want kids messing with it. (not that they would)

I am going to stain the post and the little boards up under the box and throw on some nice stick on numbers for the mailman. I called the post office at 8:15am to get them bright and early. I had them take the hold off of my mail and have them delivering any mail they had and the new mail. This will allow me to take my time fixing the stairs and getting them in the best condition again. I am going to also put outdoor carpet on them for added protection.

Another thing that my brother did for me was fix my fence gate. I don’t have a picture of that but he put in a make shift shim by the post and then moved the mechanism down a bit. The gate door now opens and closes super easy. It really was a big help.

I received my motherboard in the mail yesterday too! I will be putting my PC back together tonight, as well as get some sanding done on the other two projects. It will be a busy night again but worth it. I have been getting quite a bit done lately. While we are still here I can update you on the Apple Jack. It is currently fermenting in my pantry. It has been one full week as of today. Once it slows up a bit I’ll re rack it into other carboys, and add some potassium bicarbonate to the mix, to stop the fermenting process. I will let it sit a bit longer after that and let it clear up. After that the only thing left to do is the freeze distillation.

Here we are, the end. I’m glad you stopped by. I hope you have enjoyed my projects and hectic life! I’ll see you again tomorrow ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Projects, Projects, Projects!

Hey Everyone!

My doctors appointment went as well as it could yesterday. Thank you all for the support. I have to go pick up Cortisone lotion for the burns since they are chemical and not heat related. Once I use that for a few days I should be back to normal. I spent quite a bit of time trying to pull dried concrete out from under my finger nails. Not pleasant!

I did manage to get one of my many projects started yesterday. If you follow me on Instagram you may already know. I wanted to build a firewood rack for my house. It had to be able to hold kindling and have a shelf on top for our electronics in that area. I threw together this design, with as many dimensions, supplies, and prices that I could.

Here is what I ended up with, it is smaller because I over guessed my space. It is still mostly the same design.

If I were to do it again I would have put the vertical legs on the ground and just cut the front piece shorter. We had to “toenail” the verts and it was tough. From here I have to have the glue all dry, cut the tops even, sand it all, and get that stain on it. It was fun to make, even though sometimes my dad and brother can be a bit much to handle. We all have our own ideas, even though I had the whole thing drawn up. So sometimes we all butt heads at once and it gets less fun. At the end of the day it is going in my house so I have the final say, done!

My next project will be putting a mail box down on our lawn, because I want to work with my steps some more and do it right. I don’t want to be pressured to get them done, yet I still want my mail to be delivered. We are going to dig about a two foot deep hole and put in a 4×4 post. Next we will attach the mailbox we used at our wedding and we will be good to go. I have to call and let the post office and let them know that the issue is resolved. I hope to get that done tonight.

The rest of the night I hope to make the cuts on the other, other project haha. I will be making cubby shelf storage for in the baby’s room. I need it taller than the crib and nice. I am going to stain it the same as the firewood rack to save some money. It is Minwax Espresso, a darker brown that will fit well with both. Here is another mock up of the dimensions.

It is really only going to take two boards. Each one will be 1″ thick, 12″ wide, and 12′ long. All of the cuts are lined out there in the picture. I will have to glue the bottom of all but one of the middle verticals, as there will be no good way to get a nail in there. I will be able to nail the tops so it would be good. Once that is all done and put together it will go through the same process as the firewood rack. When it is all done I think we will get 4 gray fabric drawers for it and then keep books and toys in the empty ones.

Thank you for reading about my upcoming projects! I hope you enjoy some of these technical and informational posts. I’ll see you all again tomorrow with some updates! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Rough Night

Hey Everyone!

I’m going to keep this one a little shot, I jacked my hand up a bit.

Last night I was very prepared to work on the firewood rack and the cubby storage for the baby’s room, until I got home. I check and saw that for the 4th day in a row we didn’t get any mail. I called the post office since It closed in like 10 minutes. I know the post master and he is a good family friend. He told me that they had a hold on our mail because our steps were getting too bad. I have been wanting to repair them, but I had to wait until the weather broke. It snowed last week, how should I have fixed them?? Anyway, they didn’t us any notice it all just stopped coming. My brother and I did go get all the supplies that we needed for the other projects, but I also grabbed the stuff needed to fix my stairs. That was now my priority. The weather still isn’t cooperating but at this point I don’t have a damn choice. We picked up 60lbs of concrete patch and had to mix it by hand because my drill didn’t fit the egg beater. Well not knowing that it isn’t good for your skin, I had used my hand to scoop out the concrete and slap it on the stairs while my brother used the trowel to smooth it all. Being in a rush when mixing and fighting daylight, I had a small wet piece hit my eye. I had to rinse it out and get back to work. Well after we got done with what we could I cleaned up. My hands were super dry and that is when I looked it up. when it is a wet mix it is about a ph of 13 or 14. I have a couple of burns on my fingers and my arm from open cuts. I have a doctor appointment at 2pm to make sure that I am treating them right and to see if there is any chance of them spreading or getting worse. I also want him to check my eye to make sure everything it good. I would go to an eye doctor but we don’t have vision insurance. Time to look into that haha.ย  Anyway I have been typing thins with about 5 fingers instead of 10 and it’s pretty tough.

I hope to get out out the doctors office and get back to work on those other projects. My brother should be coming over again to help me but if not it’ll be no big deal to do it myself. I’ll try to keep you updated. I have also kind of applied to be a transcriber. It would be work as many or as few hours as you would like and do it all from home. I can really use any extra cash I can get with all these repairs and builds. Fingers crossed it would be a good fit!

That’s it for me today everyone, thanks for reading about my unknowing, self-inflicted suffering haha. I’ll be back again tomorrow, with hopefully better news! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Baby Shower, Camp, Projects! (Pictures)

Hey Everyone!

Back from an exciting weekend, and I hope you are all well.

As you may know my had her baby shower Saturday and it was a good success. I wasn’t there for more than a few minutes before packing everything up and leaving but I have some shots of the ‘haul’. Here we have a shot of most of the things on the table. You can see we asked for books, so we will have plenty of things to read for him. We have some diapers, and regular baby stuff. It is hard to look at so much clutter, my chest tightens when I see it haha.

I was able to get a few bigger items out of their boxes and throw them together that night. Here is the highchair that we got all assembled.I like to keep the instructions with everything because they fold and come apart so many ways now a days that I can’t keep it all straight.

We also got this little swing thing. It can run on D batteries or plug into the wall. It swings back and forth as well as plays music and nature noises. It also vibrates, which of course requires more batteries.Oye!

This was the advice board, where everyone was able to jot down a piece of advice for my wife. It is a pretty neat take, as far as set up goes.

We were able to put most of the stuff in its new home and decorate a bit more in the babies room. It comes together much better with the globe on the shelf and the adventure blanket on the chair. The crib and everything was all made too but I forgot to get a picture of that.

We finally got done washing and drying baby clothes for the first time, and put some of the stuff away. We kept the diapers on the floor because they are wrapped, along with the monitors since we have no stand to put them on yet. Some towels, and lotion are in those bins as well as stuffed animals. His little shoes are in the top left. ๐Ÿ˜€

That was the end. It was a long day but we got a lot done. Sunday my dad, brother, and myself went back out to our camp. We had the goal of getting the roof rafter up, and we did! Check it out.

Our camp is about 15-20 minutes away, for reference. We had to go buy 50 2×4’s take them up to the site to measure two of them for cuts. Once we did that we had to drive back home and make the cuts on all 50, and load them back up. We then left and went back to camp and put them up. It isn’t very fun to carry them through the woods haha. I think since you last saw we also have the floor joists in too! Our next goal is to get that dang roof up so the wood doesn’t warp more and get gross.

On one last note I have plans to take the dog to the vet tonight as well as buy supplies to make an indoor firewood rack. I drew up the design and the dimensions. It will cost me about $100 to get the lumber, stain, wood filler, screws, and wood glue. I already have nails and a nail gun for the panels if we chose to put them on. After that, if my wife approves I want to make an eight spot cubby storage shelf. Once we have that made or bought, we can put our baby monitor on it.

That was my weekend! It was very busy, but fun. I hope you all enjoyed your time here. If you like what you see spread the love!

I’ll see you all again tomorrow! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Car Accident & Apple Jack (Pictures)

Hey Everyone!

Yesterday was packed full unexpectedly.

I got a call from my wife at about 2:15pm that she was involved in a car accident. Doctors would suggest against getting in those, as a pregnant woman. It was in no way her fault, as she was stopped at an intersection.

The red car in the middle of the road turned out and hit the other red car, which then hit my wife. Check it:

My wife was stopped about where she was in the silver car, the whole time. Here is a more close up shot:

Both of the red cars jacked up their front ends pretty bad. The woman that ended up sliding into my wife was probably going about 50mph when she got hit..probably less when she hit my wife. But still. My wife’s car is not drive able and had to be towed to a local collision company. Her insurance and the others insurances will duke it out and cover everything, including repairs, and rental vehicles. I left work early to go pick her up. She needed to get to the hospital for an ‘extended stress test’ to check her vitals and the babies. We were there for about two hours but everything looked good and we were able to go home. Here is a quick shot I made her take haha:

Once we left the hospital we picked up dinner and her friend that came into town. She was staying with my parents until we got home. I stuck to my guns and got some of the healthy Chinese options and only found myself eating less than half of it before I was full. Go willpower!

Per my post yesterday, I did start the process to make Apple Jack. I modified my process, due to the lack of time. I ran to the store and got everything I needed, but instead of getting apples and cutting them up, then boiling them I got 100% apple juice not from concentrate. Here you can see that I heated up one gallon at a time, adding sugar, and cinnamon slowly.

As all that was heating up and dissolving, I started a batch of yeart going to speed up the process. It requires a bit of warm water, some sugar and a 1/4 or so of yeast. Like in this picture it starts to foam up and bubble.

Since I’m doing this on the cheap, like always, I just grabbed the bread yeast from Walmart. They say it will change the taste, and it might if you left it in there too long, but I won’t. It is important not to get the quick acting yeast if you do it this way.

Here is just a quick peek at the rest. I poured the hot apple juice into this bowl with a spout, then poured it from the bowl into the funnel. Once the carboy in the sink was full to about the rounding of the top, I cut it off.

From there I added the rest of the yeast, capped it and gave it a good shake to get the yeast mixed in. I then poured a little bit of water in the airlock and corked it. There she be:

I ran through that process twice and made two gallons. Form here, once the fermenting is done I’ll technically have hard cider. From there I will do the freeze distillation, for a higher concentration of alcohol. Out of these two gallons I plan on getting a yield of about 2-3 liters of Apple Jack.

I hope you have enjoyed my very random, scary, scientific, and exciting day yesterday! I’ll see you all again Monday for an update on our baby shower and more! I hope to see you then. ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Apple Jack!!

Hey Everyone!

It is clearly Thursday and I am alone at work today. The two main people I work with are gone, and I’m going at it alone today. I am fine with this, it actually feels good to be here alone.

Today is the day that my wife’s friend comes in, and we are getting Chinese food for dinner. I have been on a successful diet recently and did some investigating, as far as food choices go. I have decided to stay as healthy as possible, while still ordering food off the menu. I will get some Egg Drop Soup as a starter and Beef and Broccoli for the main course. I know my wife will be getting General Tso’s chicken like she always does.

On a very different note, I think I will start the process to make Apple Jack. I saw a video on it and how easy it was to make and I thought I’d give it a try. It involves ‘Freeze Distilling’ and is pretty simple. Here is are the steps I’m going to follow:

Make Apple Jack
-5 Gala Apples
-5 McIntosh Apples
-3/4 Cup White Sugar
-1 Tablespoon Ground Cinnamon
-Quarter the apples, and place them in a large pot
-Add enough water to cover by at least 2 inches
-Stir in the sugar and cinnamon
-Bring to a boil, and boil uncovered for 1 hour
-Cover the pot, reduce heat, and simmer for 2 more hours
-Strain mixture, and discard solids
-Refrigerate until cold
** You Now Have Cider**

**Quick edit: I will need to ferment the cider**

-Pour cider into suitable food grade bottles
-Freeze overnight, uncovered
-Invert the bottle, into a measuring cup
*As the runoff passes the neck of the bottle it will cause an air lock*
-Lift the bottle every few minutes to allow the runoff to escape
-When the frozen part in the bottle is very pale you will be done
**The Runoff Is Now Apple Jack**
-Age the Apple Jack, by storing it in a mason jar for about a week
-For added flavor add Oak chips

I have had an interest in brewing in the past and I am still looking for that drink of choice to get me hooked. My wife’s grandfather makes wine of all kinds and it is delicious. I may have to get his recipe soon. I have tried my hand at making Meade, which is a honey based wine, and here are a few pictures of my two batches from a while ago:

I made first a very traditional Meade with no real flavor, kinda gross. You can see that is the lighter of the two. The other one I made a few days later was with back berries and you can see that it came out a little darker.I did it on the cheap all for around $20. You can tell by the use of plastic water jugs and balloons, instead of carboys and air locks haha. I did buy a corker, corks, and bottles to make it look good.

For this Apple Jack, I will use mason jars that I already have and try to wing it the rest of the way haha. It basically concentrates the alcohol content of the juice when you freeze it, because the watery part freezes and the rest doesn’t. I’ll try to document what I can, and let you know how it turns out.

That’s all from me today. I think I’ll leave work early since I’m getting kinda bored. Maybe I’ll go buy apples!

C-Ya tomorrow! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Finances & Baby Shower

Hey Everyone!

Like most paydays I have about $40 to my name, DOH! Once I get done putting money in my 401K, away for bills, away for my unborn child, and student loans I’m left with enough for gas in my truck haha. I love and hate payday, so I never know how I really feel. I love being to provide and keep my life fairly stable, but at the same time I hate feeling like I went to school to get a job, just to turn around and pay off school loans….

Here is a couple buttons I just need added to my keyboard here at work haha:

It is getting down to the end our our fiscal year here at work and that means a few things. First of all if comes around the same time as tax season, which for me is a good thing because I always make sure I have a refund coming. Secondly, my work cuts us in on a part of the years profit, by cutting us all with a check based on time spent working, and job difficulty. Lastly, we get renewed vacation and wellness hours. It is like a freshening up! They do a good job of keeping the employees happy and healthy. I have basically all of my vacation spoken for, which is meh, but it is for good reason. I have half of it for our, once every five years, family reunion in August, and the rest will be used when my wife has our baby! It keeps getting closer haha.

Speaking of the baby, we still don’t have a name, shame on us. My wife is having her baby shower Saturday, at the local coffee shop. We invited a bunch of people, but only a few are able to make the trip. We had a modest amount of things bought off of the registry, the rest I can get from parents at work. We have a few of her college friends coming and staying with us for the next few days as well. We don’t get to see a lot of those people anymore since we all went out on our own ways. The most we see of them is when we go back for things like homecoming, and fraternity/sorority weekends in the summer. So this is good to have a couple of them coming. Here is what the inside of the venue looks like, normally:

I am hoping to get all the furniture paid off before the baby comes, so I can get some of the bills figured out better, and find out how I can start fixing some things around the house. I am not a fan of debt, and being in so much of it makes me stress out often. I know the school loans and mortgage are nothing I can just knock out, but credit card debt is different. Once that is gone I’ll feel much better. I really can’t wait for the weather to get better and stay better. I want to be able to work on the landscaping of our yard, and touch up some paint that has chipped, due to the winter weather. Well, and of course our crumbling steps haha.

That’s it for me on this wonderful hump day! Just remember after noon on Wednesday it is a downhill slide into the weekend! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’ll see you all again tomorrow, invite your friends! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Shameless & Lost

Hey Everyone!

This is a much later post than I had originally planned on, so I’ll keep it a bit short.

My wife and I have been binge watching the show ‘Shameless’ on Netflix and we love it. The show is absolutely intended for mature audiences, and for good reason. There is plenty of nudity of the male and female variety, very suggestive language, violence, drug use, and alcohol use. That is just to cover the big ones haha. It hits on everything you can think of and things you can’t. Most the the show cannot be predicted, which keeps it very interesting. The actors are great, and play their roles extremely well.ย  If you don’t like a character, you are in luck, because there are plenty more to choose from!

This also reminds me that I never covered what I thought about the ‘Lost’ series. I have been putting this off because I thought it went terribly wrong. It is a shame really, becauseย  I loved the build up. I think they fell short on a few things that they should have gone into detail about. The ending was weak. For a series that was suspenseful, serious, and emotion grabbing, it fell way short on the ending. Very anticlimactic. I also have to hit on the time travel, and yes I know it isn’t real. But, from what scientist believe today, as well as what common sense would dictate, they slipped up. Towards the end when it switched from an island based shoe to a sci-fi show, certain timelines didn’t match up or make sense. I feel like to stop people from noticing they added a bunch of back and forth, and fancy jargon, with vague reasoning and left it at that. The show overall was great I would just say the last season was messed up for me. I would have wanted it all to end better but it was still a good series.

Now that my review rants are over I can tell you that I have been very busy today with work, and that is why this post is a bit late. I have had a few shop users with issues, and a PC replacement that took up a lot more time than it needed to. My wife’s baby shower is Saturday and her friend will be coming to stay with us from out of town on Thursday.

I hope you enjoyed my mini reviews today haha. I’ll be back again tomorrow, so I hope to see you again.

Please consider spreading the word about my blog if you enjoy it! I love seeing the growth and meeting new people. Thanks all! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Beauty And The Beast Thoughts & More

The acting was good, in my opinion. Josh Glad plays a good LeFou, even though they had to get political and push a sexual orientation agenda. Again in my opinion, if you are going to remake a classic follow the script.

Hey Everyone!

I am glad to see you all back again. This weekend was fairly eventful. As you know Friday I went to watch ‘Beauty and the Beast’ with my wife. Turns out the showing that we went to was in 3-D:

I am not a fan of 3-D movies, but we were already there haha. The next showing wasn’t for three hours, and by then it would be a full house. We got in just fine and found our seats. Towards the middle but on the end, so my wife had easy access to the aisle. As far as the movie goes I was generally pleased. I figured I would be. Most of the story line was followed, which is good for a movie based on a classic. The acting was good, in my opinion. Josh Glad plays a good LeFou, even though they had to get political and push a sexual orientation agenda. Again in my opinion, if you are going to remake a classic follow the script. There is no need to add a bunch of things and change people, it became a classic for a reason. As for the special effects, outstanding! You would have to know that the majority of the movie is computer generated, you know like the whole castle, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, and the rest. It must have taken such a long time to get that all correct and they did a great job. I would absolutely that everyone go see it before it is out of theaters. If you like the Disney classics, you really won’t want to miss this live action movie!

Switching gears, my Saturday started out by taking more boxes over to my parent’s house. We have had so many items delivered to our house in such a short time that we had a million cardboard boxes. I went to burn the ones I still had, as shown here:

The amount that I had was next to nothing compared to what my ddad still had in his garage from all of my other stuff! Check all that out:

It was packed in every little spot. With my fresh batch of cardboard being gone quickly I decided to do it all. I was there for about two hours burning it all. We made sure to separate and throw away most of the plastic and Styrofoam. After that I went home and got ready for the game night we were going to host! We decided that we would set up a homemade sub bar, and let everyone make their own, even toast it up in the oven. My brother and soon to be sister in-law brought cupcakes from their wedding cake testing, and buffalo chicken dip. My wife and I had all the sub stuff and chocolate cookies, and my mom and dad brought drinks and Doritos. We played that Telestrations game we just bought and had a blast. Here is a quick picture that I took. There you can see my dad, mom, dog, brother, and my wife. The niece and soon to be sister in-law were in the other room.

Sunday I picked up my brother to go to my company gym. I have been on a diet for a little over a week and have lost 12lbs by eating right, with minimal exercise. Contrary to what you thought I ate Saturday. I only had my sub and some wine. ๐Ÿ˜€ Anyway, I met up with him at 10am and hit the gym. I was able to run 2 miles and walk another. My legs today are still feelin the burn.

If you are curious as to what my diet plan is I can gladly let you know! Contact me any way you would like. I have just been eating too unhealthy and gaining too much unwanted weight, so I’m doing something about it. All while still hating exercise haha. The rest of the day was spent with my wife, who didn’t feel very good. We watched about seven episodes of Shameless.

I hope you all had a great weekend like I did! I hope you have had a good time here today. I look forward to seeing you all again tomorrow. C-ya! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€
