TV, Space, Dentist

Hey Everyone,

I’ll be pushing this post out a little bit, since I have a dentist appointment that has crept up on me.

I have been really into the ABC show “Lost” I have been binging it like crazy. Don’t spoil anything for me if you have finished it. I am part way through season 5 and will probably finish the series in a couple weeks, at most. I never watched it when it was popular because I thought it looked really stupid. Well, I will be the first to admit that I was wrong. There are so many intricate details in this show, that you can miss in the blink of an eye. It is the kind of show that if you zonk out or day dream through an episode you would want to re watch it to find out what the hell happened. I am also a big fan of series that are already complete. I hate watching show that are currently out, because you can never retain as much when you have to wait a whole week for the next episode. My wife and I have struggled with the CW’s “Flash” and “Arrow”. We love both of those show but have fallen behind because it is hard to stay on a schedule when it comes to TV watching, with so much other stuff going on. Since Netflix does a pretty good job of getting whole series out I hope they continue to keep those shows as well so I can catch up.

Like my post stated yesterday, I am having my PC translate and analyze data for science research. It is demanding on my PC’s hardware. I have been tweeking the settings all morning trying to find out what will work for me. I have to be able to do my daily tasks at work without slow down and this has been a fun little challenge. I am able to set the computer preferences but I have to get them just right. The good news is that there is a setting for when my PC is not in use, it will use more resources. This way I can leave my PC on at night and let it go wild while I’m not here. Then during the day I can have it slow way down or even be suspended. I think the whole idea is cool and would like to read up on more of it so I may come to understand it a bit more.

Like I said today I have a dentist appointment, and I’m not super fond of them. It is just a routine cleaning, but I feel like everywhere I have gone they are rough. I’m not sure what it is, but every time I leave my mouth hurts haha. I think it is partly to do with how they scrape my teeth, and sometimes miss and hit my gums. Good news though is that I didn’t have cavities and I hope not to again. My dentist now is a family friend. I have grown up with his kids and my brother played soccer with them. They are a really nice family. If I remember I’ll let you know how the appointment goes.

Let me know what your feeling towards the dentist are in the comments below. I know some people love going and others despise it haha.

I’ll see you all back again tomorrow. Until then have a great day! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

What Does Space Hold?

Hey Everyone!

Back again. I had a very productive weekend, working on my house and shoveling snow haha. To recap the weekend, the wife and I went to Lowes and got everything we needed to finish the babies room, Friday. Everything we needed included a nice new nail gun, and boy those are fun! I had never used one until this past Saturday.

Speaking of Saturday, we were a bit blindsided when my brother got a hold of us and asked us to come with him and his fiance, to look for wedding clothes. They are getting married in May and wanted some help. It wasn’t a bad blindside, but a blindside never the less. After we hit up the local Ruby Tuesdays for lunch and came home. I was able to get my brother to agree with helping me finish up the babies room that evening. We borrowed my dad’s table saw and got to work. I had bought the day before 14 feet of white baseboard and 55 feet of quarter round trim, to finish the floors. It took us about four hours to get it all complete but it looks pretty good. The hard part was figuring out how to hold the trim and cut it at about a 45 degree angle to fit all the corners. When that was all said and done the day was complete.

Sunday I woke up and got to work painting. I had to touch up some spots on the dining room wall and the cabinets, as well as touch up some of the ceilings and baseboard in the other rooms where paint leaked through the tape. I was up and down on a step ladder about a hundred times. When I got done I could have just stopped but for some reason I got the urge to do more. Weird I know! Since we moved we have had a pile of wood, plaster, nails, dry wall, and other stuffΒ Β  cluttering our somewhat small garage. While I still had my dads table saw I took to the pile and separated out all of the burnable wood and cut it into pieces. I separated the non burnable stuff to be taken out with the trash, as well as saved the “good” wood for use at a later date. I wish I had a picture but it was a blizzard outside and I’m sure I looked like a fool. At one point I burnt a pretty good bit of my hair off, by getting a bit too close haha. After that I put some of the usable drywall on the actual wall to save more space. Later that night I shoveled my sidewalks and cleared the seven or so inches of snow away. That was my weekend. There wasn’t much time for anything else but when I had a few moments I cooked and watched Netflix with my wife.

Today is another story of its own. I don’t know what it is about space, but I’m certain it is the next frontier in some way or another. I always wonder how I could help. I’m no Physicist (hell I used spell check on the word) but I’m sure there is a way to help. I found today that you can allow your computer to analyze data, radio waves, ect…Β  for these companies and agenciesY you can go to SETI@Home,Β  it is SETI’s website. It stands for Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence. I know your thinking “Really, aliens?!?” but is it really that weird considering we don’t know much about what surrounds us? On that site you can download something called BOINC and it manages projects for you, and connects to servers of untranslated data. Your PC then does what it needs to with the data then re uploads it to the servers. Once there the non-profit, government agencies, and colleges can take that data and find something useful in it. Here is what my PC looks like while translating this data from SETI:

The manages is in the top left, and is running about five projects at a time. the rest is a visual of what it is really doing, in a way that boggles my mind haha.

seti

If the ET thing isn’t your style, you can check out Einstein@Home . This is a site that will allow you to still lend your PC, but to search for gravitational waves. This research will help scientists discover neutron stars.

Lastly, there is a site called Zooniverse where you can find any project you want. Anything from medicine to nature and more. They show you cool projects and how you can involve yourself. I know this post got deep into the nerd, but it is still worth checking out even if you have just a bit of curiosity.Β  Let me know your thoughts on space, and what you think could be, in the comments below.

That is all for now, I hope you all enjoyed your weekend as much as I did! I’ll see you all back here tomorrow. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Lets Share!

Hey Everyone!

This is a bit of a different post. It is something that I want your input on. It is all about website traffic.

road-markings-traffic-distance-black-and-white-1280x800

First I want to let you know that I paid to upgrade my site. It is something that I wanted to do from the start, but I wasn’t sure that blogging was something that I would stick to. It has been about 10 months and I’m going strong so I decided it was time.

My main question is how do you personally generate traffic on your blog site? I would just like to use this post as a central hub of information on how everyone generates their traffic.

I don’t have the kind of traffic I would like but I’m working towards it. I’ll tell you what I do.

  • I try to post daily, at least once, and work to make my blog better
  • I try to keep my content about my everyday life and what goes on in it
  • I have linked social media accounts to my page (Instagram, Twitter, Google +, and Facebook)
  • I try to like and comment, on other blogs with real content
  • I try to follow blogs that are in the same niche as me (Kind of hard to find)
  • I stay determined, and care about what I write (It isn’t a burden for my to write everyday)
  • Be honest and true to who you are and it will reflect in your writing
  • I try to have an easy to navigate theme, with simple menus

If you would like to participate here, just let me and others know what you do to generate traffic to your site, down below. If you want to, feel free to share your blog site, and other social media accounts as well.

If you don’t mind, and have the time, check out my sites, linked above, it would be greatly appreciated.Β  Maybe this post will help others find your site and we can all help each other in the process. Thank you for taking the time to read and comment! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

A Farewell To A Good Man

Hey Everyone!

(I will have two posts today. I would like to talk about a topic that isn’t necessarily about daily life in another post.)

I want to start off with a somber and somewhat sad topic. There is a guy that I have worked with the past two years, whose last day was today. I grew up with his children, in the same small town. I knew of him growing up, and know him better now that I have had the opportunity to work with him. He didn’t retire, he has cancer. His cancer was supposed to kill him long ago. He has fought it, and continues to, for the past 10 years. He has exhausted his time off and has run out of available FMLA. He has kind of been forced out, by the legality of operating a company. From a company stand point they can’t really do any more for him. His time has simply run out. We had a luncheon for him just a half hour ago. It was put on by his department, sales. They presented him with a metal plaque, with his face and one liners he used engraved on it. His family was there and they gave a few speeches. He worked her for nearly 20 years and is loved by just about everyone. Since I started working here he was the one that ran the company basketball games that we had every Sunday. It was at his church’s gym. At the half way point of us playing we would stop ,and even though it is not my thing, and pray for people in our lives and at work. These are all things that no one had to do, but he did. He will be missed here at work and when he does pass on he will be greatly missed by many. It is just something that I wanted to write about, to get it out of my mind a bit and share a bit about a good man.

Yesterday we got our baby chair that we have been waiting for. It matches very well, and sits in the corner, just like it belongs there haha. Take a look:

20170126_171530.jpg

This weekend has a few things in store for me. Later today I have to make a trip up to Lowes. Last night I got measurements for baseboard and quarter round trim, in the baby’s room and the attic. Tonight we will go up and try to find what we need. I may be making a purchase of a nail gun, that way I’ll have a way to fasten everything to the wall. To cut the trim I may barrow my co-workers Miter Saw. I also need to pick up a hinge for the closet, a can of paint and stain, and possibly a door knob. Tonight may end up being a bit more expensive than we expect. I am trying top pay down my credit card bill for all of the furniture while doing this so I have been reserved on some f these projects, but getting the baby’s room done needs to happen. The attic on the other hand needs to get done so that we can move all of our books from my parent’s house to our own.

The rest of the weekend we will be touching up some paint on the walls, that either didn’t get covered enough or was ripped off by the painters tape. (Which isn’t supposed to happen in the first place!)

That is all for this post. I will see you all back here on Monday! I hope to see you then. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Quite The Little Rant

Hey Everyone!

I have been pretty stressed today about a few things. I wasn’t really in a bad mood until my wife called me, and the subject of paint, painting and our on going hole in the wall project came up. We started to peel the tape away and of course like every other wall we taped, the paint peels off. The majority of it is white around the base board and the ceilings, so we will be going to get a half gallon or so of white to touch those spots up. The dining room however had tape down the walls, since we only painted one. The paint is a deep dark gray and we are hoping that the old paint can is in our basement from when they painted it. If not we are going to have to chip some off and hope for a color match. It is pretty annoying that we have gone through the process of painting these walls only to try and finish them up and realize that there is more to do.

The hole in the wall is a whole other story. I’m still fearful that this contractor we had come help us will flake out and not come back. We started the project when we moved in mid November. It was supposed to take one weekend and be done. It is now almost February and he still hasn’t come back the final time to do the last remaining parts that he said he would do. Again as for some backstory he offered to help us as a favor for her mother, and we would pay for the supplies. He lives over an hour away and hes just a shadyΒ  guy. We need him to come back one last time to caulk the sides of the counter and secure it, so that it won’t move. He also bought trim that has been leaning on our wall for a month and is supposed to put that up too. My wife was in contact with him yesterday and he told her that he has another project to finish up and that he would come. She told him that we are free every evening and that he could come anytime, and he never said anything back. Since this whole thing was a move by my wife and a deal from her mother I’m letting her handle this all, but today I told her to get an exact date and time and to get his ass down here. It’s like the straw that broke the camels back, in a way. I have been dealing with this guy and this long wait time, on top of him showing up late twice and once not until the next day for too long. I want this over and done with and it needs to happen soon. Its also like being stuck between a rock and a hard place, in that if I lose my cool and talk to him myself he has the option to disappear forever and never come back, since my wife already paid him. (Which I didn’t know about until after and then informed her was a very bad idea.) I hope that she can just get a damn answer from him and get him here. He was saying he would be here this week but here it is , Thursday, and we haven’t heard that he will be here at all. This is very much so a rant and I’m sorry for that but this stems from a phone call that I was on not 5 minutes before my time to write.

On a much lighter note, my crib and dresser/changing table came yesterday. I spent about five hours last night putting them together, peacefully. I was alone and had my Pandora music app running as loud as it would go. Here are a couple pictures:

This first one is of the crib itself. There is a drawer on the bottom that I didn’t know was there until I built it haha. Also as a side note the metal bear that was on the wall in the middle is down in the crib because it fell off the wall. the Velcro that we used won’t hold it. I will have to anchor it in the wall and use screws.

20170125_214951

As you can guess, this one is the dresser. It was much heavier than I thought it would be. It turned out great and I didn’t have any issues putting it together at all. We bought the pad and mattress separate they just happened to come on the same day.

20170125_214958

Another bit of furniture news, our chair that goes in the babies room was delivered this morning. Once I get home and check for the paint that we need I will be putting that together and getting it all situated. Pictures will come as well, as long as I can remember to take them.

Thank you for stopping by today and sorry for my rant, sometimes you just have to vent. I hope you all enjoy the rest of your Thursday, and I’ll try to do the same. Talk to you tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Gotta Run

Hey Everyone!

Today up until this point has been very uneventful. With that being said I am now swamped with an issue that we are having with local group policy and possibly a hang up with the Windows 8.1 operating system. I will have to cut this post super short because of that, but that comes with the territory of finding time to blog at work lol.

Later today I will be putting the baby furniture together since it didn’t come yesterday and I hope that the contractor guy is coming this week to finish the hole in the wall project. I got paid today and now only have $2.00 in my account lol. That is a quick update, please enjoy the rest of your week! I’ll see you here again tomorrow, with much better content! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Get Random!

Hey Everyone!

I hope you are making it through the week fine. Last night I got my sleeping bag that I ordered from Amazon.com. It is the “Tough Outdoors XL Mummy Sleeping Bag” found here:Β  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DFT0R00/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and looks like this:

bag.png

I am now not going to lie, I got side tracked hard here. I have a tiny sore throat and I remembered that I had something for it from our company nurse. I was looking through the box of stuff that I didn’t use from her. It is insane. You go down for a head ache and get 10 pills haha, not to take right then but when you go home and what not. I just never took mine home. I have been hoarding, I guess…. I took everything out and organized it here is what I have:

20170124_132128.jpg

As far as I know from top left there is pain pills, pain pills, and antacid. Row two is cold pills, sinus pills, and ointment lol. I have them in an old cough drop box and just keep everything I don’t use. I may take some home and put then in my first aide kit. Anyway that just happened and I don’t even know.

Back to the sleeping bag thing and story line. I would now like to go on an over night camp at my, under construction, site. The only piece that I was missing was the sleeping bag, and now I have it. Since the site isn’t finished yet I would like to wait for another break in the weather before going. Once the shelter is complete I would be very comfortable using it during a winter camp.

Today we are getting a bunch of baby stuff delivered. We have the crib and changing table coming as well as the mattress and changing table pad. They should all be on my porch when I get home. I bet you can guess what my evening will consist of. πŸ˜‰ I will be putting it all together. Here is the furniture that is coming today:

baby.png

That is all from me today! I hope you are all making the best of this week. I’ll see you back here tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Successful Weekend

Hey Everyone!

Monday, Monday, Monday….

This weekend was busy and fast. There was much to be done and much was accomplished. Friday my wife and I went to get groceries and stopped by Lowes to pick up a gallon of paint for the dining room wall. Saturday I had to take advantage of the nice weather. It was 60 degrees and all the snow was gone. The sun was shining, so I went to my camp. I was there for about three or so hours and was able to think and work peacefully. Here is some progress:

This first one is what I decided to do with the walls and the rain fly for the time being. There was a chance of rain but that never happened. You will see in the last picture what I did to tighten the walls.

20170121_122503

Here is another angle of the other wall that isn’t as far along as the other, and the rain fly. I guess I should mention that for the rain fly I used a Midshipman’s (Taut Line) Hitch, to keep it, well taut. πŸ˜€

20170121_122528

Here we have a nice profile shot. The wall is a bit higher and coming along nicely.

20170121_122539

Finally we have a picture of the wall braces. I used an Arbor Know, which is often referred to as a Canadian Jam Knot.Β  It allows you to just yank one way and tighten anything without it coming loose on its own. Very handy. You might notice that I just wrapped the long end around a few times rather than cutting it. I did this because you should keep your paracord at lengths that you can reuse. While at camp I used about 100 ft of paracord and cut it into 8 different pieces.

img_20170121_122654

Later that day we took advantage of the weather again and took our dog for a nice long walk around the neighborhood. She really enjoyed it, like she always does.

Sunday I woke up and had a couple cups of coffee and got started on painting the wall. I successfully got the first coat on. I apologize that I don’t have a picture yet but I’ll touch it all up and then get you a finished product. Once that is done we have the contractor coming back to finish the counter top sometime this week. He would only have to caulk the edges, secure the counter, and nail up the trim under the counter. Then hopefully we can be 100% done with this project! Later we watched the Steelers v. Patriots game. I am not a fan of either team but my family likes the Steelers and everyone hates the Pats… I really didn’t want either team to win. I don’t want anyone getting further past my Cowboys or catching up when it comes to trophies so neither team should have won in my very biased opinion haha. My one friend stated it in a way that caught my attention. He wrote, “Rooting for a side in this game is like trying to decide who is better between Satan and Isis….” It caught me a bit off guard and then made me realize I agree lol. I hope that the Falcons win the Super Bowl, mostly because like my previous statement they are the lesser threat.

that is all I have for today, feel free to let me know your thoughts on football, camping, or house work! I’m involved in it all. I hope you all are having a great start to your week, and I’ll see you tomorrow! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Weekend Tasks

Hey Everyone!

Yesterday I took a break from my normal posts, to accept the “One Lovely Blog Award.” I just want to thank you all for the great feedback, it makes me want to keep writing and sharing my story (No matter how boring).

We are back! Yesterday I was actually really busy with work. I was running all over my building most of the day helping people, put out their small tech fires. Today not so much, people don’t tend to report issues on a Friday. I guess I can’t really blame them, I wouldn’t either.

This weekend I have a few things that have to get done, followed by a few things I want to get done. It is always good to have your priorities in order. Sometime this weekend I have to help with the house work, by doing things like laundry, dishes, and possibly dusting. Of all of those I hate dusting because it messes with my sinuses and jacks me all up. Maybe I’ll skip that one haha. What I want to do is go to my camp site tomorrow, since it will be the only good day to go, and I’ll have the most time. It has been super rainy here and cold. Most, if not all, of our snow is gone and tomorrow is supposed to be about 50 degrees. I really want to take my chainsaw out and get working on the walls of my shelter. I have a second tarp that I may put up as a rain fly and work under that, not sure yet. My wife doesn’t really want me going out there, because she wants me to paint the dining room wall. I would like to do both! I hope we can get the paint tonight and do it tonight, or get it and I’ll do it Saturday night or Sunday. We will work it all out haha.

I have been doodling here at work in hope to get inspired by something to work on a story for a comic strip. It is slow coming and probably looks like I’m not working haha, although that is not the case. I do it mostly during lunch and my break. i not going to be holding my breath on this project starting anytime soon, but it is still something I think would be neat and fun to pick up as another hobby.

I hope you all have a great weekend planned! Feel free to let me know what your plans are, I’d love to hear them. I’ll see you all again Monday! Enjoy your weekend. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

One Lovely Blog Award

img_2719-3

Yesterday, I was nominated for my first blog award!! I want to let you all know that I never thought I would get nominated for one. I never think I bring enough to the table, or that my work isn’t good enough, or not interesting enough to have people read it. I know that’s pretty hard, but it is tough to not be hard on yourself.Β  I also didn’t think I would be so psyched to be nominated for an online blog award! That being said we can continue….

I would like to thank Rae for the nomination, I am blown away and totally blindsided, Thank you! She is the author of the “I Will Not Live In Vain”Β blog. If you are looking for something new and fun to read go check her blog out!

The Rules for this award are as follows:

1. Thank the person who nominated you and leave a link to their blog –check

2. Post about the award –check

3. Share 7 facts about yourself –check

4. Nominate, AT MOST, 15 people –check

5. Tell your nominees the good news! –check

Alright, fact time:

1.Β  Although I work in IT professionally, I first pursued a degree in elementary and special education. I was about three years into my major when I decided that it wasn’t going to work. (Not that I fell out of love with it) I soon switched to social work, then again to sociology. I graduated with a BA of Sociology. A year, or so, later I went back to school for networking because I was unable to find a job in my field.

2. I was a jock/athlete my whole life until about my second year of college. I was always outside doing something. I participated in every sport I could. I played baseball, football, indoor/outdoor soccer, basketball, and even wrestled for a short stent. When I wasn’t playing traditional sports I was skateboarding. Anything and everything that kept me active I was doing. (Now the most I do is play slow pitch softball)

3. I have a fear of machines that I am not personally in control of. At first that sounds a bit weird, but the more you think about it you will get it. I don’t like riding in cars with people unless I trust them with my life. I hate airplanes. I have never been on a roller coaster. I don’t do elevators unless I have to. Things like that haha.

4. I am now an avid PC gamer. I mostly play ‘first person shooter games like, Counter Strike, and Rainbow Six. I do dabble in a bit of everything though from games like Rocket League to GTA V. I have an embarrassing number of hours played all together. If I had to guess I would say about 5,000 hours. that is a literal 208 days of straight game play. (Don’t judge me haha)

5. I am a very organized person and never used to be. I scan every document that I get and have a backed up file system where everything is stored, and labeled. Even when I didn’t have a scanner everything was filed away neatly. I like to have a place for everything, and everything should be in its place. I have become very efficient. Less than ten years ago, I didn’t care about any of that.

6. Short and sweet, I still keep a check book for all my bank accounts.

7. I am very happily married to my best friend. We met in college, though her friends, and hit it off. We have never looked back. We are now in our new home, and expecting our first baby boy!! Things are looking good from every angle. πŸ˜€

Nominations:

As far as the nominations go I want to nominate people/blogs that inspire me to keep writing, keep me interested, and have helped me along the way (Whether they know it or not)

Feisty Froggy – Dewey Hop

Okoto Enigma

Dum Cheese – Riley’s Backpack

Betcha Didn’t Know!

Sophie – Blame Chocolate

Wally Fry – Truth in Palmyra

Roberta Pimentel

Thank you all for reading and helping me on my way! Remember, you don’t have to participate if you don’t want to! Thanks again Rae. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

**EDIT 02/01/17 I was nominated again by Melinda from the blog “Purple Slob In Recovery”**
